So the Jets should not draft an ultra talented Qb who just threw 30 tds at age 20 and has the best arm talent in college because they don't have have a crystal ball, have been burnt in the past and there is not a 100% guarantee that he will succeed.

Ok, well I disagree with you and this is not hopium.

Realize Moore is not some one year hit wonder, on the contrary he has always been THE guy at every level.

A 5 star recruit, 10k yards, 130 tds, 2 state titles in Highschool. People talk of Arch Manning but he was never the top dog college qb recruit, Moore was rated #1 over him and Manning #2.

This will be a moot point after workouts anyway. Many Scouts already see him as a similar if not better version of CJ Stroud. This will only grow as we get closer to the draft.

I don’t think you can really shy away from drafting a quarterback that you like and has good traits because “Jets.”

That’s a silly reason. I think it comes down to if you like the player or not. Good players are probably going to be good where ever they go. It’s not like Josh Allen went to an outstanding franchise. CJ Stroud went to one of the biggest messes in the NFL.

Caleb Williams went to a franchise with an even worse QB track record than ours. Trevor Lawrence went to the 1-15 Jags.

You gotta throw that HS shit outta there, it means nothing. In fact, I'm surprised that Kiper is mentioning that too because it's just a bad look. There have been thousands of HS prospects that never lived up to the hype across football and basketball so when I saw Kiper say that the other day I really lost some respect for him. It means nothing when evaluating college to pro QB's, like absolutely nothing.

Kiper is clueless when it comes to the QB position. He is not a strong evaluator of QB talent. Some other positions he is much better at nailing. But I've really noticed some lazy takes from him and McShay and even concerning Moore. Anyways, I've seen enough of Moore to know that he's far from a sure thing at the pro level. Just because he sits and waits a year or two doesn't guarantee anything. That's a horrible way to approach the draft and the #2 pick overall.

The Jets would be utter fools to draft him just because people think he has the potential to grow into this star people want him to be, but he clearly is not yet. Just watch the game the other night He put up a real stinker and was large part of the reason that the game was over at halftime. All those garbage time stats are just that, garbage.

I don'r care if he's the #2 QB clearly, he has a ton of work to do to be even close to Mendoza's level. It's an insult to Mendoza who's PROVEN when they talk about a guy who's not nearly as proven because they think he has great arm talent and all this other jazz. Results are all that matters, everything else is vaporware. It's just a preposterous and unqualified opinion from any out there, The media is so hard to stomach these days, it's wild.

The Jets need to address the QB position via FA. If everyone expects Moore to sit next year, then it makes even less sense to draft him at #2 because 2027 is a deeper QB class and most here expect the Jets to be picking high again next year to get their guy. So why would you delay the rebuild even more by taking a guy who won't play next season and you'll have no way of knowing if you need to address that very same position in the following draft?

It's counterproductive with so many positions that need to be addressed on this roster.

OK, I am very surprised Dick Chimney wrote this, but his entire argument is bogus and based on false assumption. “He is only 20 years old, he has got only 18 college starts, and if you look at the recent first-round quarterbacks with fewer than 20 starts — it is not a promising field." Again, he does not have fewer than 20 starts, he has exactly 20 starts. 15 starts this year plus 5 more starts in rookie year against SD State, NC Central, Utah, Washington St, Oregon St. 20 starts, not few then 20.

Also, on top of it he had two more games where he did not start, but entered early and basically was THE QB: Costal Carolina (led them to a win 143 yards, 2 TDs, 1 INT) and California (lost, but threw 38 times, 266 yards, 1 TD, 2 INT). 20 starts officially, but 22 games where he actually was the main QB (he threw 50 times in these two non starts for over 400 yards!!!). Not saying this is super high, but let's not compare to Trubisky and Richardson with 13 starts each or Trey Lance, who did not even play in FBS! Again, he is closer to CJ Stroud and Maye than he is to these guys.

Well, every player drafted is a gamble. The list of failures at non QB for high draft picks is very, very long. In fact, the 2 guys they got in trade this year, Mitchell and Smith were both first round picks. If you think Moore has potential to be a top 10 guy, you MUST draft him. He may fail but you have to take the risk. Now if you think he will just be average or worse, that's a different matter. Beauty is in the eyes of the beholder.
Personally, I am by no means qualified to judge any of these guys. the brain(less) trust gets paid a ton to do that. They need to follow their insights, one way or another.
We ain't going nowhere without a QB. There are plenty of vets around who can start for a year, so immediate readiness should not be a consideration. 2027 readiness is what counts. And better to have a bird in hand, if you think its pretty, than one in the bush you may never capture.

Did you watch him play the other night in the biggest game of his life? If you did, then I'm shocked you're so sold on Moore as an NFL star. And I would counter the last line of your post with there's plenty of birds in the 2027 draft worth grabbing that may be even better than the Moore bird. If immediate readiness isn't a consideration at the QB position, then it makes even less sense to draft him when you need so many other areas this year that could actually help the team next season. At some point you actually have to draft blue chip players who will provide an impact in Year 1.

If Moore is so unready to start in the NFL that playing him as a rookie risks ruining him, then he has no business going any higher than Round 2.

It's annoying to continually read posters like you who can't understand basic English. I never in an part of my post said I liked Moore. I fact I said I am not able to judge. I said it's the Braintrusr who has the say.
I would enjoy intelligent discourse. I'm waiting.......

For sure, the high school rankings are useless. Once upon a time, the top high school recruit was Christian Hackenberg.

Yes, I think by now I watched all of his snaps this year, although maybe I missed some. I think there is serious talent there that will be drafted top 3,if he declares whether we want him or not. Also, Kiper and McShea are pretty reputable folks, you can't just completely dismiss their evaluation. But it's not just them, Yates has him #2, Chase Daneils, Rodgers and Sikkema had him top 5, and in general as a consensus he was #2: https://www.nflmockdraftdatabase.com/big-boards/2026/consensus-big-board-2026 . Let's see what happens going forward, after they remock considering the latest game, but at least so far, it is not just Kiper, it's almost everyone that has him #2.

As far as Mendoza, I agree Mendoza is a clear #1. But do you wonder how Mendoza would look going against defense as good as Indiana? Actually he did, once, just a game ago, Ohio St has similar level defense. And how did he do? Also had a bad pick on his own 25 yard line, leading to their only TD. And he was able to score only 13 points. And this is considering his defense held Ohio st to just other 3 points (aside from his pick) and was able to get him the ball back. His RB also didn't cause a fumble at his own 2. This is not to say Mendoza is not #1 guy, but he did not exactly put up big numbers against the defense similar to his own either. It's about context.

Indiana is a better overall team and has the #1 defense in college. They made every Qb look worse this year including Sayin and Simpson who people feel are 1st round talents.

Football is still a team game. The Qb honestly gets too much credit and too much blame.

If Oregons defense shuts down Indiana like OSU's defense did and Oregon wins... the narrative would be that Moore played great vs a stingy defense with a stat line of 24/39, 285 yards, 2 td's and 1 int.

You think Moore's performance in the Peach Bowl was bad. Go watch Gabriel in the Rose Bowl vs the Buckeyes last year. Was there to see it with my own eyes and knew he was gonna be a turd.

thanks for making my point. they are basically identical players in terms of what they achieved in college, but one of them bc of fantasy land wishful projection is a number 2 overall pick.

he has such a massive number of things going against him and the fact that we have fans that didnt learn a single thing from the Zach draft is just pathetic.

everyone here wants a franchise QB. but you cant just wish your way to one bc we have the #2 pick. there is ONE elite QB prospect in this draft, and we will miss him. try again next year, or draft Chambliss later in the round as a project.

How did Josh Allen fall to 12? How did Jordan love and Aaron Rogers get picked at 26? Unless this is a Jamarcus Russell, or dare i say Zac Wilson, situation, which I can maybe chalk up to Covid. You better know quickly if the kid has it mentally. If so, absolutely draft him and develop him. That’s for the Gm to decide but not every QB is known to succeed from day 1. The last that come to mind are Burrow and Luck. Everyone else has taken time and picks at all numbers. Moore will be fine if we have coaches who can actually develop him. Just ask yourself if Moore went to the Browns, would Stanfanski be able to develop him before he left? There is your answer.

Idk, you find a QB you believe in and make it work. If they think he can play, get him. Or watch Tyrod Taylor again next year and shut up!

Disagree on the high school rankings being useless.

If you look at great players they were usually great their whole lives. There are exceptions but it does tell you something about their talent and ability to live up to it.

Also in other sports like baseball, basketball, hockey, they almost exclusively look at their high school careers/rankings when drafting players, why should they ignore it in football

Charlie Ward was the best QB in New York for a decade with the Knicks
