I am OK to keep Tanner and Hayden, but we need to replace QB coach and passing game coordinator with some solid coaches. If everything works out the way we are discussing, the coaching support system for Dante (or anyone else really) needs to be better than what London and Turner have done.
what similar traits does Dante Moore have with Sam Darnold? I think they have different traits. But I'd love to hear why you say that
Now, give me the # of YEARS MOST of those players were able to sit on their asses and learn OR had a phenomenal coach. Of the 14 QB's you put up there EIGHT or more than HALF of those kids sat for YEARS, not just one, and/or had hall of fame or potential hall of fame coaches. Nine players when you consider Hurts wasn't a 1st rounder. If Ben Johnson continues to pass the "eyeball" test then you can make that 10 of the 14 QB's that aren't just flailing in the wind with their thump up their asses. Of the remaining guys, only C.J. Stroud basically came in and played well. Trevor Lawrence & Bryce Young need to do "this" a couple more times before I give them anything other than "one hit wonder" status. Lawrence is basically what a generational QB looks like when they get drafted by a team with bad coaching. Let's see what he looks like a couple years back to back. Your argument that a top flight QB MUST be a 1st round pick rings hollow when 85% of the people you put up have either phenomenal coaching or the ability to sit and learn the damn game. NEITHER of which is a part of the NY Jets description. In fact, BOTH are oxymorons when talking about this team. Sad to say...
Darnold looked good but he was unrefined, he looked like a linebacker or something playing QB at times. Moore doesn't look like that to me. Not many prospects have
I don't know...if Engstrand were all "that" we'd have been FIRST in rushing because we had nothing else. I've never seen a situation where our "bell cow" disappeared for massive stretches of games. And that's not because Hall wasn't on the field. He should have been the full offensive focal point for, at the very least, every single game Garrett wasn't in. Not sure "how" they messed that one up.
The 2025 Indiana team will go down as the best team since 2019 LSU. They are an absolute juggernaut. The 2017 PSU team Darnold played in the Rose Bowl isn't even close. That being said Moore passed for more yards against IU than any other QB this year. Not saying Moore is the guy but the comparisons are apples & oranges. Don't forget Sanchez passed for over 400 yards in his Rose Bowl appearance in 2008 vs PSU.
You can't have the best rushing attack in the league when you're starting a grocery bagger at QB. Every single team knew what they had to do to stop us. Lack of targets in the pass game, yes, but I think plans changed when Braelon Allen went down. Regardless, 10th in the league in rushing with the hands-down worst QB room in the league say something about the way you design the offense.
The Ducks had 1 drive over 40 yards until they were down 42-7 halfway through the third quarter. Let's not do what some people did with Justin Fields by taking his passing numbers and pretending they didn't come in the fourth quarter when the other team stopped trying.
And you know what he will be at 22 because what exactly? A gut feeling? Hoping? Bc a few other guys did? The vast majority of college football players cannot play in the NFL. There is a far greater likelihood that Moore is another in the long line of them than he is the next Mendoza. Drafting him 2 overall, where you are locked in to committing to him for at least 3 seasons is one of the most Jetsian things we could possibly do. There is zero on field evidence that he can play at a high level other than magical wishful thinking.
You are basically saying there is no hope because we do not have good coaches. Again, what is the point, we are not going anywhere without a longer term QB. I feel we need to try and yes, it might take multiple years and multiple coaches, like it did for Caleb, Maye, Lawrence, and others. It is not guaranteed to succeed either. But we have to try.
Dylan Gabriel's stats at Oregon last year: 3857 yards, 30 TD, 6 INT, 73% completion, 3rd in the Heisman, loss in the semifinal of the CFP, drafted in the 3rd round. Dante Moore stats with the same team, same coaching staff, same scheme: 3565 yards, 30 TD, 10 INT, 72% completion, loss in the semifinal of the CFP. Gabriel was a third round pick and was so bad his first year that even sad ass Shedeur Sanders won the job from him. Gabriel was statistically better in every possible metric (on the same exact team and staff and scheme) as Dante Moore. Yet somehow, Dante Moore is worthy of the #2 overall pick????? Bc he's 3 inches taller and bc his agent has been aggressively pushing him as some elite prospect so sucker teams like the Jets hand him millions?
Gabriel is 25 and a finished product, Moore is 20 and a ball of clay. I'm not even that high on Moore but there's a pretty big difference.
It's It's deja vu all over again. Like with Zack, we can get the second QB off the board. JD severly misjudged ZW talent. Hindsight says we should have traded out. So here we are in exact same situation. it's a career breaking/making decision.
Again more wishful thinking and projection. You have no idea what he is going to be. Based on his performance, he is right now in no way shape or form remotely worthy of the #2 overall pick and it would be a catastrophic decision. Not only does it waste YEARS at the QB position, but it renders all these other draft picks useless as they play out their rookie contracts on a horrible team. We have seen this movie before.
It's not just the stats. Yes, they both had great seasons, but Gabriel doesn't have Moore's arm talent, athleticism, or size. Release time is slower. He is classic College QB. Also Dante did what Gabriel did while 4 years younger. There is no comparison there. Why not though? What would you expect a top prospect to look like where Moore completely failed? It's not like he did not have a great year, led his team to 2 play-off wins, Semifinal, best finish (likely #3 final rating in the nation) for the team since 2014, which included guys like Nix and Herbert. What is the concern?
No shit I don’t know what he’s going to be. That’s usually how it goes with people you describe as a ball of clay. I’m just saying your post lacked a ton of logical context.
The first Sam's season, that's something else, I completely agree with you there, Sam had 27 starts to Moore's 20, no argument. The second season I thought was very similar. A good season, but ups and downs, putting the ball in harm's way sometimes, fair # of turnovers. Both were only 20, needed more development. Both were able to process well and release the ball fairy quickly, 2.55 for Moore, 2.60 for Sam. Beautiful arms for both of them, played good competition. Can make every throw. Can throw to opposite hash, can thrown on a run with zip, can throw from the pocket, can move when they have to. Love the arm talent. Good athleticism, solid size. To me that's what a top prospect is supposed to look like. But I was saying this in context of what @Jets79 mentioned where they need development now and infrastructure to support them maybe more than guys like Mendoza or Baker perhaps at the time who were more experienced. And that sense I want a do over. Ultra talented prospect, whom now instead of ruining like we we did with Sam, we sit for a while with a veteran ahead of him. Maybe Mariota, a former Duck too, or McKee or Mills. Protect him on the OL, give weapons. Maybe we can do it right this time, even if it will be the next regime where he can actually develop. But I would like for the Jets to right the wrong that was done to Sam, with Dante.
"The league is in trouble next season" LOL A lot of the arguments against Moore boil down to our inability to develop a QB, who is not ready to kick ass right away. The problem is, guys who are ready and have this type of size and arm talent are not available to us every year. There are very few of these players that come out, period. And you need a top 3 pick to get them, often #1 overall. Who knows if we will have it next year? Glenn and Mooge could blow their load to improve the roster and we end up winning 5-6 games, then what? No one is trading a near sure thing ready to play #1 or #2 overall pick QB. Teams take these guys themselves. Yeah, I have my doubts too if we can develop Moore, but in a division with Allen and Maye, we have to try. And there will probably be a new regime next year, maybe we will have better luck then. We absolutely have to give it a shot. As far as low number of starts, yes, it is true, but it is not as low as some think. He had 20 starts since he started his freshman year for 5 games, plus 15 this year. This is not Trubisky who had 13 starts. Maye had 26 starts. CJ Stroud 25. He is closer to them than Mitch. And yes, he has to sit for some time. But he is the best shot we got to be competitive in the future with likes of Maye and Allen, who are going to be in the division for another dozen+ years. If he declares, we have to take our shot.
