I think Florida has as many military personnel as all of Venezuela, they have loaded up on tanks and such in the last 25 years but likely not kept up with maintenance
What kind of war reporting does not include a casualty count? I understand the overnight bombings were apparently meant as a diversion but exactly what toll have they taken on civilian infrastructure and people? Put another way - did the US kill more or less innocent civilians last night than the alleged drug boat attacks did?
The general (whom Trump and Hegseth both repeatedly referred to with a cutesy nickname) said it took months of planning and rehearsals. They didn’t think to tell anyone else in government when they were doing this planning?
5 years ago there was a "peaceful protest" ... that left a shitstain on our democracy among the "good people" pardoned.... Andrew Paul Johnson pleaded not guilty to charges in Florida for alleged child sexual abuse, including the molestation of an 11-year-old child, according to court records and an arrest affidavit first reported by The Intercept. According to the affidavit, Johnson told one of the victims that he expected to receive a $10 million settlement from the Trump administration and would share a portion of it. “His tactic was believed to be used to keep [the child] from exposing what Andrew had done to him,” the affidavit states. Johnson had previously pleaded guilty to nonviolent charges for storming the Capitol on Jan. 6. David Daniel pleaded not guilty to federal charges of "Production of Child Pornography" and "Possession of Child Pornography," which "involved a prepubescent minor" and a child under 12 years old, according to prosecutors. Separately, Daniel pleaded guilty to a charge of assaulting police officers on Jan. 6, but he had not yet been sentenced when the Trump Department of Justice dismissed his case. Christopher Moynihan was arrested in New York in October for allegedly threatening House Minority Leader Hakeem Jeffries, writing that “he must be eliminated, I will kill him for the future.” Moynihan has pleaded not guilty. He was previously convicted at trial of obstructing an official proceeding and pleaded guilty to nonviolent misdemeanor charges for his actions on Jan. 6. Robert Packer was photographed storming the Capitol while wearing a “CAMP AUSCHWITZ” sweatshirt and later pleaded guilty to nonviolent charges for his role in the riot. He subsequently faced multiple criminal charges for alleged violent attacks by dogs he owned. According to local news reports, one of the dog attacks sent multiple victims to the hospital. Just days after receiving a pardon, Matthew Huttle was pulled over by a sheriff’s deputy in Jasper County, Indiana, for speeding. In addition to his nonviolent Jan. 6 charges, to which he pleaded guilty, Huttle had a history of legal trouble for drunk driving and child abuse. After the sheriff’s deputy told Huttle he was under arrest as a habitual traffic offender, Huttle reached for his handgun and was shot and killed by the deputy. The shooting was ruled justified. https://apps.npr.org/jan-6-archive/
And about that guy that planted 2 pipe bombs, there is some talk going around that the blanket pardon Trump gave is going to cover him and the charges will be tossed
“In a wide ranging interview with The NY Times, President Trump said he expected the US could be running Venezuela ‘for years’” nation building again
I'd really like to know why they want Greenland so badly.. The US basically has an agreement with Denmark that they can put any military assets on Greenland that they want with very little oversight. They uncovered a secret US-built mega base there from the Cold War full of half-built missile silos in April and now Greenland is one of their top priorities.
They want to use it to take down NATO the Danish president "If the United States chooses to attack another NATO country militarily, then everything stops," Frederiksen told local media on Monday. "That is, including our NATO, and thus the security that has been provided since the end of the Second World War."

Objectively speaking, there hasn’t been anything but political anger in this thread about the move and very little actual discussion about what was done and why it was done. I don’t agree with the Venezuela move, but from a macro and micro level, the move strategically has a purpose that’s being missed. This is not nation building, nor is it even needed. Venezuela is a built country as far as infrastructure is concerned. It needs to be refreshed but they have the money and resources to do it if managed correctly. It is very similar to the US population. It is a largely Christian population with similar values to us, and obviously within our hemisphere. It is not like the Middle East countries we ruined. Despite all the political turmoil in the country essentially since its existence, it was a booming economy from the 1930’s until the 80’s when the oil crisis was coming to a close and oil prices plummeted. The country was largely recovering from all the political turmoil and fall out from the oil crisis in the 80’s/90’s and then Maduro got into power, nationalized everything he could get his hands on and forced the entire country to live into poverty (https://www.statista.com/statistics/1235189/household-poverty-rate-venezuela/) If we were “nation building,” we would’ve invaded. We didn’t. We took the dictator out and with the help of our corporate resources, will allow them to rebuild their economy while skimming oil, gold, etc. off the top in exchange for that. Let’s make no mistake. The political leadership (for better or worse) are not hiding their intentions. This is an oil and resources play. They told us all that. But it goes deeper into geopolitics. Venezuela is the most oil rich country in the world and has been aligned with China and Russia for the better half of the last decade+ if not longer. They reap all the benefits of these resources and are aligned and heavily invested in the biggest SA economy (Brazil) through BRICS. China did what they have been doing in Africa for quite some time to Venezuela (and Brazil). Belt and road initiative. Loan them money, invest in infrastructure, etc. whatever you want to to call it, in exchange for either resources or repayment on interest they likely can’t pay so they’ll have to pay by other means. This creates heavy Chinese influence in the area, right in our backyard and their influence has been closing in around the United States for 15-20 years to the point where we’re damn near completely isolated. This move secondarily was to re-instate the Monroe Doctrine to make sure that we control the hemisphere and influence in the hemisphere and no one else. As far as Greenland is concerned, it’s not only about trying to take their resources, but it’s also about (as stated above) the Monroe doctrine again. But more importantly, Greenland gives us extremely easy access to the arctic. Somewhere that China and Russia see great opportunity. (https://www.scmp.com/news/china/sci...-foray-first-manned-deep-dive-below-polar-ice) (https://www.express.co.uk/news/world/2154514/putin-russian-flag-arctic-territory-claim). Better access than Alaska affords us and on both sides of the country. Also, to diminish the military operation should be insulting to anyone who served. They dropped into a heavily armed and guarded military base, extracted a dictator in what? 2 hours. And left with no US military casualties. Read up on Delta Force if you don’t think this operation was wild. They are crazy. They are not discussed often because there’s a rule in Delta Force to not do media, podcasts, etc. France, England, Russia and maybe one or two other countries in the world have a force that could’ve pulled this off. Feel free to “disagree” with me, but there’s nothing to really disagree with. You don’t have to agree with the reasons, but there are reasons.
what do you call an attack on a foreign nation's soil and the removal of their head of state? Not an invasion? what if someone 'not invaded' us? When outside countries help rebuild or stabilize another nation after war or collapse of government, its called nation building. How is this not nation building?
No, we did not invade. We carried out a 3 hour military operation and left. We are not setting up in the nation to build it, are we? Are US troops on the ground? Is there the intention of putting them on the ground? Maybe, but I don’t think so. And until that happens, juxtaposing this next to the Middle East wars leaves a very clear difference to all the wars we’ve fucked up and dragged on for the past 80 years. If we put troops on the ground and setup military bases with Walmarts so the troops families can live there while we train a military and let our oligarchs build buildings, then it’s nation building. Until then, we have to wait and see before we call it something it hasn’t transformed into.
In George Orwell's 1949 dystopian novel Nineteen Eighty-Four, the world is divided into three superstates: Oceania, Eurasia and Eastasia, which are all fighting each other in a perpetual war. https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Polit...rstates of,territories' are indicated in grey.
There's so much to like about Greenland becoming part of the USA. Consider the construction and continental US tourist explosion that would occur. Stategic location for trading with Europe, entering the Arctic, military position, and rare earth--probably has gold, silver, and copper too. It'd be historic like the Louisiana Purchase. Strategically incredible for the USA benefit. I bet there were people against the Louisiana Purchase--thats the team some people are on.
