Actually, I don't think they'll land ANY of the FA QB's floated on this board in the last day or two. I don't think any of them are stupid enough to sign with the Jets. It would be full blown career suicide. I'd say "possibly" Cousins but, IMO, I don't think Atlanta lets him walk. Penix is brittle. Hell, Cousins will probably hit playing time incentives staying with Atlanta AND it's a much MUCH better situation than the stain that is the Jets.
So right now I'm hoping for Carnell Tate at 2 and either Caleb Downs at 16, or if he's gone by then try to get CJ Allen. None of that will happen of course but a guy can dream
The only thing really missing is the coach. But I have given up on that in 2026. And it is a big thing to be missing, but I think we have enough as far as protection and weapons where we will not ruin a QB in one year. And then maybe, hopefully, a competent coach comes in 2027, kind of like Maye/Caleb/Lawrence situation. As long as we get a good young QB this year, I think that's really all we can realistically hope for for 2027.
I think Tate is going to be a beast at the pro level, I'm willing to spend a 2 on that. It's a toss up for me though because I'm also hoping for Mauigoa. It would be a better scenario to trade down a few spots for either one though.
Definitely can't take IOL #2. Unless you keep him at RT and slide Membou inside. Either way going top 10 RT back to back drafts is a little much. "Membou finished the regular season as one of just 10 tackles leaguewide to play 1,000-plus snaps and earn a 70.0-plus PFF overall grade. And he was one of only two rookies to do so. The 21-year-old is poised to pair with Olu Fashanu to propel the Jets’ line into the next era with a new quarterback in 2026 and beyond. The rookie’s 5.4% pressure rate allowed ranked 29th among 98 qualifying tackles."
Would you take a rookie Quenton Nelson at 2 in this year's draft? Not saying that's what Mauigoa is, I just want to see how firm your IOL rule is.
Nope Wes have too many other needs at more important positions to use a high pick on IOL That would be a terrible use of resources
It’s basically Bain, Downs if we stay. Otherwise, get more picks. If someone wants Bain that badly, trade back and get more. we can’t go wrong on all this draft capital unless we swing and miss on a Qb
Don't like Safety at #2 but would trade down and grab him for sure. David Bailey had 9 tackles and a sack vs Oregon in the CFP quarterfinal and has been a beast. Would look at him as well if we're going defense.
Mauigoa is one of the few rare cases of a guard or tackle that will be a game changer. I don’t think he makes it past Cleveland or Washington at 6/7. I don’t think you can take him at 2 in any case but he’s a monster.
Talking about drafting non QB options at #2 is fun, but that discussion is in no way living in New York Jets reality imo Looks like I'll have to start watching more Simpson tape if he appears to be our locked in QB option at #2 and unless/until Moore declares?
I have a feeling that the Raiders will take Moore #1 overall and let Mendoza fall into our laps. Moore has a higher ceiling than Mendoza with a cannon for an arm. Raiders always end up getting swayed by speed, or arm strength or potential it seems. If that happens, we will then trade out of the pick getting a king's ransom and Mendoza becomes a stud and we draft a bunch of losers.
There is no way the second pick should go to Simpson, none. He is absolutely not ready, and not worth it IMO. Best news of all is Moore declares for the draft
My core outlook there has completely changed after coming the dejavu realization yesterday that we really are going to go into 2026 while insisting on pretending having Nathaniel Hackett v2 and the worst offensive coaching room in the NFL hasn't already damned away the season (and likely this QB pick) I'm not gonna get too hung up on trying to "win" the #2 pick, or on any supposed ceilings that we don't have any realistic chance to see ever see play out here. My pick guy at QB is going to be whoever i end up believing presents us with the highest floor outcome. No matter how terrible it looks on paper or within the general consensus media pov. I haven't closely watched a lot of Simpson other then his last game.
Trade 16 and 33 this year plus first in '27 for Burrow. Draft Tyson, Tate or Lemon at 2 and let's roll!
