The roster can be bad and the coach can be in over his head at the same time. The Titans (with an interim coach) just barely lost on the final drive to the same Saints team that beat us by 3 touchdowns and outgained us 346 yards to 188.
I’m not sure where you intend to begin… The entire modus operandi starts with the head coach. The head coach coaching position on the New York Jets is broken and it needs to be repaired before any of the other downstream components will work. You are not going to have a properly functioning and well prepared team if you simply ignore the head coaching position, because you don’t wanna have to go through firing after a single year. be real…
Tell that to the newly minted AFC East champions exactly one year removed from firing their one year head coach, in Mayo. Your argument is not only flawed but inexplicably wrong.
It’s just not a reality that it takes that long to transform systems and cultures man. The Jags went from 4-13 to 12-4. The Commanders went from 4-13 to 12-5 a year ago. There are a lot of other examples out there. At the very least we should be competitive in games and we’re not. The NFL is setup for shitty teams to win on any given week (Dolphins with Ewers beating the Buccs yesterday as an example). We are getting our doors blown off in the first quarter.
Having Drake Maye helps a lot too. The Jets are on their 3rd string QB for a good while now and he has no business being a starting QB in the NFL. No one expected this team to win more than 5 games this year anyways. Do they look awful? Yeah. But they are pretty much who we thought they'd be this year. And with even modest expectations out of Fields coming into this season, this team was a 5 win team predicted by most. Without him living up to the hype, this season is pretty much where it should be. The Jets who are who we thought they would be coming in. They need a QB, first and foremost.
Both those situations have franchise QB's. And basically repeating what I posted to mezz, the Jets are on their 3rd string QB for a good while now and he has no business being a starting QB in the NFL. No one expected this team to win more than 5 games this year anyways. Do they look awful? Yeah. But they are pretty much who we thought they'd be this year. And with even modest expectations out of Fields coming into this season, this team was a 5 win team predicted by most. It's the complete opposite - we're where we are because Woody always fires coaches a year too late. If you don't think a historically bad year is worth firing a coach over then I don't know what to tell you. Good coaches do not have years this bad, no matter whether it's their first year or not. Let me ask you this - what do you think Glenn does well? What have you seen that indicates he's the guy? Or is it just blind hope that everyone figures it out eventually given enough time?
Couldn't have asked for much more before the Dolphins game?! We were 0-3 dude. We looked good earlier in the season? We started 0-7! I feel like I'm taking crazy pills.
You're not, your argument is just extremely surface level and from impatience. Calling for someone to be fired in less than a month is not forward thinking by any means
The Pats had Drake Maye last year too and they went 3-14. We've been doing things this way for a decade. Woody always fires guys only after it becomes undeniable they're bad. How's that been working out for us? Again, what does Glenn do well in your opinion? Or are you just blindly hoping he improves dramatically? It's so ironic because thinking he'll improve when we have no reason to believe he will is exactly the sort of thing that isn't forward thinking. Why didn't it take Coen more than 1 year to implement his system and culture? What about Johnson with the Bears? What about Vrabel?
So why are you asking to do it again? Thank you for proving my point. You're getting no where and want to go down that path again. News flash, we're going to suck next year most likely. Give him another year.
Bullshit. We are in rare air territory. There is very little history of coaches starting out their career as poorly as Glenn has that actually turn things around. On top of that, every player on this team has appreciably declined in their overall individual play since Glenn came on, he’s been demonstrably bas managing a clock, even worse at gameday decisions, and his gameplans are about as lackluster as can be. He preaches accountability yet suddenly started bringing up Wilks’ name before firing him, and now is starting to tie Mougey in with himself. If we were 8-8 right now I’d still be calling for his head because its completely apparent how overmatched he is. Vrabel literally is trying to run out clock and kick a FG to end the half and our moron of a coach is calling Timeouts for them, allowing them to score a TD again. Almost every game you can point to a terrible decision made by this coach. The man is way over his head, he’s no different than Jerod Mayo.
This is absolutely no where near where I thought it should be. Record wise, sure it's not far off but that's nothing, it's the way they are losing and the historical ineptitude. Glenn is statistically the worst coach the Jets have ever had, he's in the conversation with Kotite and Gase. Look I get it if you don't follow the team as closely as some that in a vacuum it looks about where we should be but if you watch every minute of every game, every press conference and follow local beat writers as well as sports analysts, film study etc it's pretty fucking obvious he ain't it. Maybe from a casual fan perspective you are right but that just tells me you aren't nearly as committed to watching this team as the ones that see it so clearly, nothing against you but I guarantee you haven't watched any film breakdowns or all 22.
What? I'm asking to do the opposite of what we usually do. Woody always fires guys a year too late and I'm saying he should fire Glenn right now rather than waiting until after next year, when by your own admission we're going to suck too. What if there was some magical way to avoid sucking next year? Like maybe by hiring a much better coach? The Bears, Jaguars, and Pats all did it this year so clearly it's possible.
I've watched every regime change and every version of it close enough for the last 40 years to know that you don't get rid of Glenn after one season. That's just kneejerk and reactionary which is the essence of the NYJ franchise. The problems are wayy more than Aaron Glenn. He's not even close to the worst. He's just this version's fall guy. It's the same rinse and repeat shit with this franchise. The Jets need a franchise QB, plain and simple. Every team that's turned around in the last 10 years has one. They continually fail at addressing that position.
Let me ask you this then, do you have faith that if we get a franchise QB this off season it will fix what has been statistically one of the worst seasons in franchise history and all of a sudden we won't be the laughing stock of the NFL? Teams play with us, Vrabel did it before half, the Taysom Hill TD against the Saints, we are their toy to play with. We are a joke, I didn't feel this way at any point with Saleh, never. Do you believe it takes 3 years for a rebuild? If you do then we will agree to disagree, there is evidence all over the league of that not being the case, it's just the BS we have been fed for decades.
There's isn't a magical wand that's your problem. Nobody can win with the current roster and I'm giving Glenn a chance with a real team. Agree to disagree.
