If money talks then use it to hire a HC with some respectability. How can Mike McCarthy be sitting at home when we have Glenn as HC!?
It's no secret that most of this team has regressed under Glenn and his staff, so odds are that the entire draft class will stunt their growth with Aaron Glenn and his staff.
well Quincy has gone on record and said that the way they had him play wasn’t to the way he played under Saleh, almost a read and react type of defense Wilks had him playing. I’m assuming the same with Sherwood. Quinnen lined up different this year than his previous seasons. Whatever Wilks was doing didn’t work here. And I get the reasoning why, because AG wanted someone to run their “department” so he can focus on being the general of the team. If this is how it’s going to be, he needs a very good DC to come here. So he needs to nail that hire. The OL is talented and run game is good but you can only do so much with a subpar QB room. Teams adjust and will just stack the box. Cook currently isn’t a NFL caliber backup, nonetheless QB but this is what it is. Let Mougey and AG get their pieces here. You need at least 2 EDGE guys to supplement JJ and WMD. Likely a new LB corps, at least 1-2 corners and a safety. Grab another WR, supplement the OL and of course get someone competent to play QB!
Sorry I call bullshit…the problem is coaching. This staff has not put the players we have in the best positions to succeed. Literally every single defensive player has regressed under this coaching staff. Every one. Can’t name a single defensive starter that got better than they were last year. That’s coaching. I have seen NOTHING from AG and this staff to give me any confidence that they know what they are doing…they made these players worse, and now will point to the “lack of talent” as the reason for the shit performance and will try to replace the roster as much as possible. They can complain and point to poor QB play but fucking shit man, AG is the guy who let Rodgers go and replaced him with Fields, who was terrible to begin with, but then Fields had his WORST season ever under AG. And that’s saying something. So no, I do not give the roster up as an excuse for AG to suck this bad. Before the season, I predicted 5 wins, give or take 1 each way. We are not meeting even that low prediction. But worse than that, it’s not just the number of losses…it’s the number of blowouts and total no-shows. It’s insane. We have more blowouts that takeaways. How does that happen? Terrible coaching. As bad an HC as Saleh was because he clearly didn’t know offense and he was saddled with Zach, at least he had the defensive guys playing much better than what we’ve seen this year. Yes the penalties were bad, and no we weren’t a top 5 D, but we were not THIS bad. The coaching has been utter shit and I don’t want this staff or this HC ruining this upcoming treasure trove of picks. This is the PERFECT time to admit a mistake and go get an offensive HC and let Mougey and him use the picks and build the team.
There's zero rational defense of Glenn at this point. Again, this team was historically bad this year - arguably the worst team we've had in the modern era. That's not my opinion, it's backed up by our schedule-adjusted point differential. This team was every bit as bad as the 2020 Gase team, and we had more talent on the roster this year than that team did. Two of our three wins this year were solely due to miraculous special teams performances. Good coaches do not produce the worst seasons in their team's history, and that's saying something considering we've had a lot of really bad seasons. People defending Glenn need to get a grip.
100% I don’t think GREAT takes a long time to show up… But to me, I don’t think good coaches have years that are THIS bad. If Glenn got us to 4 or 5 wins (and yes I guess he technically still can get to 4), but if the games were different…if they were closer losses, not total no shows, if we weren’t setting NFL record level of futility records like the takeaways and picks, if we weren’t so pathetic on both sides of the ball, I’d maybe say give him a shot with better players. But I just don’t see it. There is really nothing to grab onto and say, ok, we can build on THIS. The only possible thing would be our ST, and come on, that’s not a foundational building block.
I really don't get it at this point. We just had objectively the worst season in team's history by numerous metrics. And while I understand that before people were clinging on these special teams wins saying that the ship is turning, we can't count on 10+ points from special teams to win two thirds of our games! STs are important, but it is a smaller part of the team, the games need to be won on offense/defense with ST maybe a smaller differentiator here or there. But now, after getting blown again and again and again and again... Why would any fan think this is OK and we need to keep horrendous coach that is doing this to us? Maybe because he was a team legend? I get that he will always remain a great Jet player. But as a coach ... we have to move on, there is literally no defense, in more ways than one.
The only defense is that he “deserves” more time. He hasn’t earned anything, he just deserves it because big ships turn slow you know.
Even this defense is completely nonsensical. The only coaches who arguably deserve more time are ones who outperform the talent on their roster. Glenn has underperformed our talent. It's not that we're an especially talented team, we're not, but our talent is certainly good enough where we shouldn't be having the worst season in our team's history. Glenn has also been generally horrible with the media, in-game decisions, clock management, and all the other little things you look for in a good coach. There's not a single thing he does especially well.
Yep, he has been out coached weekly. His schemes - if that is what you want to call them - are predictable. This team in UNCOMPETITIVE and uninspired, that is leadership and coaching. As someone posted, he lost this team weeks ago... the only person that doesn't seem to realize this is Woody which speakes volumes about his cognative abilities in general. 56 years (actually 54 haven't watched for t2 yrs) watching his franchise, I am a Jet fan but I will not subject myself to bad coaching, poor player development and bad game plays anymore. I get my info from forums like this one and other sources... IMHO, Glenn is not a HC nor has he showned any semblance of becoming a HC. He should be fired today...not tomorrow or 2026 but today. Unfortunately, that cluless owner will not do it...
My only question to you is, how did you spell so well while you were drunk? I have to assume such because anyone with a normal pair of eyeballs could see this was "Coaching Failure 101." I mean, a GOOD coach doesn't have HISTORICALLY BAD anything. When we are talking historical here we aren't talking Jets historical, which is bad enough, but we're talking NFL historical. Damn...
If he's allowed to stay he'll be in save his ass mode. He must know he doesn't have the time to build with/develop all those picks. He'll never see the 3 #1s in 2027 if he doesn't have a decent 2026.
I never said he was a good coach. You know how the US has TDS? Gang Green has GDS. He's not as bad as talked about here he's literally blamed for everything under the sun. He could end up being bad, but the way he's talked about here is ridiculous. There's nuance, it's not just "team bad coach fire"
It's not ridiculous at all. What's ridiculous, and not rooted in objective reality, is acting like this season has been anything other than a dumpster fire. Don't take my word for it, go here and sort by lowest SRS, third column from the right: https://www.pro-football-reference.com/teams/nyj/ This is the worst Jets team since 1976 and the worst one of the modern era. Even if you think this metric is flawed, it would have to be insanely off base to conclude that this team has been anything other than an abomination. Is the argument that this is only the 2nd or 3rd worst team of the modern era so Glenn should be retained?
The problem with this team and Glenn is that the team has gotten much much worse. We were competitive against the Steelers, Broncos, Panthers, Buccaneers, etc. early on. We’ve gotten our absolute doors blown off for over a month. Even with Sauce/Q being traded, NFL teams don’t lose by 3 scores that often. We’ve done it 4 straight games. It’d be interesting to see how many times we even crossed the 50 in the past month. I usually don’t care a lot about press conferences since it’s all coach speak, but Glenn just seems like an idiot that doesn’t have any organization within the franchise. Organization is a huge part of being a head coach.
That has been my biggest issue. The team has looked like dogshit for 4 weeks and that's what is concerning. Pre Dolphins game is couldn't ask for much more but the wheels have totally fallen off. People here have demanded Glenn get fired as early as week 3. We're blaming him for regression of players that sucked, wanted to leave, or did not regress. It's crazy how singularly focused people are. If this happened early maybe there's a chance to move on, still wouldn't agree. But it's been after major negative roster overhaul at the end of the season. Still not acceptable but it's reality no matter how much someone pounds the table.
It has been awful, as expected. Im not taking the easy way out and just firing the coach which will do nothing. This thought process is why the jets are where they are.
We are NOT in week 3. Are they anymore wrong, today, vs week 3 in their claims for Glenn to be fired? Sounds to me like they were prescient. I don’t understand your argument.
It's too early to give be calling for Glenn's head. He's barely had time to get settled in. That's just emotional speak and I get it. He needs, at a minimum, 2 years to get his system and culture in place. Being in the NY market. he's just getting unfairly ganged up on due to the scorching heat of the spotlight. He deserves another full season. But don't shit on the guy the whole time and give him a chance to implement his vision This time next year if this shit continues then yeah, time to move on. Let me caveat this entire post by saying: If there is an elite head coach prospect available that Woody is willing to spend big on, then that would be the only way that I would move on from Glenn so quickly after only one year.
