Yeah he didn’t start so not sure how much, if any, practice reps he’s had with the WRs But I do think he should be starting the rest of the way to see what he can do…at this point we’ve got nothing to lose
Cook starting the rest of the way should be "gospel" at this point. IF Glenn trots Taylor out there then I'm going to have a serious problem as to whether or not Glenn has learned all the lessons he needs to learn this season.
He will. Anyone who thought Taylor would last more than 2-3 games was delusional. Even if they put him back in, he will get hurt again.
I guess receivers have to get used to catching passes from every qb they play with. Let’s seee what this kid can do with first team reps and game experience , and the receivers getting used to his velocity etc.
And, with practice and playing time, Cook learning to "take something off" on the less than 10 yd. routes.
That's wasn't even his first start. He literally had no reps at all with the 1st team, and only 1 week with the second team. And while he wasn't good, he wasn't worse than Fields. Let's at least give the kid a chance to play a few games, and we can always send him packing at the end of the year.
Why don't we throw the hot dog vendor from the parking lot under center? We don't know what he's got. Undrafted free agents signed off the practice squad are that way for a reason. Lots of eyeballs on them and the consensus that he can't play is probably accurate. Or maybe we win the lottery this week.
I didn't hate what I saw from Brady considering he was thrown into an almost impossible scenario getting absolutely no help from his WR's. I like the fact they actually targeted the TE position and Brady did well to get them the ball. There really is no reason Cook doesn't start the rest of the season
Do you have a problem seeing what Cook has? I certainly don't and, from what I've seen, albeit a very short sample size, he played a HELL of a lot better than Fields seemed to and, at the end of the day, what do we have to lose, 4 games? No biggie. To me, it's WORTH finding out if he can be a contributor or do they need THREE QB's in the next offseason.
If you look at Sanders on the Browns the more reps he's getting as the weeks progress there is steady improvement.
I haven’t seen any film on it and honestly have no real desire to see any plays from that game yet, and I was in the stadium so I didn’t see replays, but on a few of his passes he looks like he does some weird sort of hop step thing instead of stepping into his throws. Am I just seeing things?
YouTube has every throw from Cook so I'll give it a look. I didn't notice it until he was trying to escape a tackle.
Just went and watched, thanks. It’s not a hopstep but on the PI ball to Mitchell and the first endzone INT he’s got a real weird footwork thing going on. He swings his left foot out and looks like it turns his whole body. That’s what I was seeing. The amount of drops in this video are insane, but some of them are definitely on him. Full expect the velocity issue to settle down this weekend like it did in the second half.
Just watched this again. That 1st throw to Mitchell 3d down, he is wide ass open by a mile, easy 10 yard pitch and catch, Cook, fires a bullet that is behind him. I thought initially it was a drop, but this was Cook's 1st pass in the NFL, and he just fucked up. That was not a drop. I don't think anyone is catching this ball. Then on the 2nd and 10, makes a good 5 yard pass to Taylor, and he just drops it. That should have been easily caught, the pass was good, and very uncharacteristic of Mason. The pass after that, great throw to Davis, gains 40 yards on the PI. Doesn't show on the stat sheet, but that was a great play by the rookie. The same possession , 2nd and 13, about a 6 yard pass. Pass to AD with a defender draped all over him, and it is slightly outside of his reach. Maybe if it is a little softer ball or closer to Mitchell even by a couple of inches, but this is a tough one. Even the commentators said he had no chance. Right after that Metchie unable to fool or beat his man, and Brady throws a pick in the endzone. Looked a bit underthrown also. Next possession is basically a 1 play. They start at Miami 46 with 10 secs left. Basically need a 6+ yard pass and a timeout to give Folk a chance. Cook drops back, everyone is covered, Cooks runs right, Hall beats his guy, should be a fairly easy pass to Hall on the run, but he kind of pumps and runs and then throws away. Basically Cook caused us 3 point chance there. Then Hail Mary, where quite easily throws 60 yard pass int he air but batted down. Halftime. Rough half from Cook overall, but did have a couple of nice plays, and I think the kid does have NFL arm. Another noteworthy play, 3d quarter, our own 40, 1st down, 15 yard pass behind Mason Taylor, who is open. Taylor comes back, with the defender near can't make a grab. This one is on Cook. Should have been 15 yard completion. Another drive, 3d down and 10, 20 yard pass to AD, he does have a defender on him, and it is hard to see, but I do want him to come up with this ball ideally. I would say between the last one for AD and this one, AD had one drop in this game. Which is not great, but upon further review not as bad as it looked. The drive is revived by the ST fake punt, and Cook does a really nice job to march down the field, and Metchie drops an easy TD. That was an egregious drop, the worst of the game for anyone by a wide margin. 3d and 9 near the goal line after the drop an OL penalty, Cooks looks left and then throws a bad checkdown pass to Hall that wasn't gong to get a 1st down anyway. Pretty bad decision by Cook to throw and a bad thrown too. On the next drive, after a nice completion to Metchie, on a 3d and 2 on 44 yard line, Cooke scrambles and can get a 1st down, has greed in front of him but then like a complete moron just stops and jumps short of game. This is another head scratcher. May be the dumbest play of the day for him. He does complete next pass to Taylor to keep the drive alive. Williams drops a good 6 yard pass on 2nd and 10. 3d and 10, AD is WIDE ASS open by a mile for a huge gain, Cook misses by a lot. Next possession, a pass behind Smartt, who turns back to catch it but gets lit up and concussed and loses the ball. A slightly better pass would have been a catch. Good 22 yard completion to AD after that. Another pass to Metchie and a short run to gain another 1st down. The a drop by Ruckert. Good pass to Williams to get to 1st and goal. Then underthrown ball to AD for a pick. Overall, let's not sugarcoat it, this was a very rough game by Cook. The offense scored 3 points. He had 2 brutal picks in the end zone, which were his fault. But protection was not great in this game and there were some drops too. But I do think he did some good things where at least I want to see him practice with 1s and get his 1st real start. Let's see if he can clean up his act a little bit. To me it's very obvious that even if everyone is healthy I want to see Cook start the next game.
Both picks were rough. I dont think Cook is an NFL QB but hell were 3-10 or something might as well let him play ...congrats to Jacksonville, New England and Buffalo who will get to face a practice squad QB down the stretch of their playoff run
For his 1st game, without any 1st team reps, I'm not complaining about his performance. He definitely has potential for improvement.
Congrats to pretty much all the teams that faced us or will face us on that. Without getting 10+ points from special teams, we won one game all year. That was against the Bengals, the day Nick Mangold passed away and also when Woody shitted on Fields, and Fields responded for 1 day. Overall though, when it comes to offense and defense this team stinks bad. But who knows, a rookie QB might actually improve. He played like shit in the 1st stint sure, but did have some moments and appears to have a solid NFL arm, which I thought he doesn't have. Might as well see more and a 1st start with full 1st team practices this time.
