Mendoza just beat the best defense in the last 10 years in CFB, he’s worth the hype. saw Moore play QB this year, gives me one read Justin Fields vibes tbh Simpson could be good but needs time. A RS year. I’d get him and try and trade for Mac Jones if possible. love Carnell Tate, CJ Allen, the LsU S Hauley to name a few.
Agree with all of this. I really would like to see them grab Tate. We need a physical receiver to compliment Wilson, I'm tired of watching our top receiving option get physically dominated by the better corners in the league.
I think we’re looking at some combination of these positions with our first four picks: WR, Edge, ILB, FS, QB and OL. It’ll be interesting to see what they try to fill in free agency. I’m wondering if Membou is a better fit at OG and they target the Miami OT whose a monster. I like the LSU safety and Kamari Ramsey from USC is supposed to be a stud safety as well. I think he calls the plays there too. We need a safety and linebacker badly.
The good news is that Colts Pick will turn into a top 15 pick. I think we need to trade back one time to yield an additional second.
I do think Mendoza is worth the hype and trade up but not if it's at the expense of like three first round picks.
Cignetti is the man and Indiana is for real. That's an NFL caliber defense at OSU and Mendoza did pretty alright against them (that 3rd down throw to extend the drive and end the game was a dime). Dante Moore will come out and will probably be the #1 QB taken. Ty Simpson will head back to Bama after his dismal last quarter of the season. No other QB's are worth a first round pick this year. Jets aren't getting a QB unless someone slips or we overpay to trade up.
I think Mac Jones would disappoint here big time…he has only performed under Shanahan, and unfortunately, he doesn’t coach for us…I think he would be a disaster here
I absolutely will eat some well earned "crow" for Mendoza's play. He did look good! Then he just HAD to do the presser, post game. Man...this kid is going to get his ass torn up from the floor up in NY. Just an opinion but I've seen his type before. He'll spend more time on a leather couch than he will in the Trainers room. Again, I don't know him but that's my gut feeling. Also, I take most of College football with a grain of salt these days. Sorry, but that is NOT an NFL caliber defense Ohio State has there. Yes, there are a small handful of players, on that defense, that are NFL caliber but, then again, that IS college football. Let's not confuse the two. As I've stated before, if a QB falls and they want to take a chance, by all means...go for it. Personally, if I were the GM, I wouldn't but it's not my call to make. If the Jets burn ANY draft capital to move up it will just be to the detriment of the team.
Fowler’s latest mock has us trading both firsts and a second to get to 1 and take Mendoza. If that’s all it takes sign me up but I can’t fathom that’s all it would take.
Depends I guess on where we draft. If it's the Giants and we are at 4 what package are they getting that's better than the 4th and 13-17th plus a 2nd? Browns have 2 1sts but theirs is much later. They can still probably get their pick of the draft if the next 2 picks need QBs. Really all just silly speculation at this point, we don't even know what QBs will be available and where we are picking, still fun to speculate atleast lol. Life of a Jets fan debating the draft by November, yay...
I'm open to Moore or Mendoza and even moving up at a reasonable price if this regime is completely sold on either. They'd better also bring back Breece (and utilize him in the passing game), add a starting WR, and a new bridge QB though. I really wish there was a 2nd round prospect though or even a Jaxson Dart-esque prospect they could move back into the 1st for, but not sure there is. I've seen the USC QB speculated, but wonder if that's still rich for him. Curious if any draftniks here have any 2nd round guys they'd target. In that scenario btw, a 2nd round QB should not preclude them from another 1st round choice in 2027 if there are any signs it's not working out.
In theory that sounds good but the harsh reality is that very few 2nd round QBs actually become quality starters…yes the Saint’s kid is looking decent and may develop (hopefully he does enough to take the Saints out of the QB draft market) but for the most part, if you are looking for a starting QB, and especially if you’re looking for a really good one, it’s gotta be the first round. People will always point to the few exceptions who do make it, like Brees or even better like Brady or Purdy, but the harsh reality is that overwhelmingly, those guys don’t become anything more than backups…and if you look at our specific picks, with OUR team, and OUR scouts, and OUR endless history of rookie DC head coaches, we’ve NEVER found a QB outside of round 1. NEVER. I’m kind of on the view that if we want a QB this draft, we’ll have to do it in the first round…and if we can’t get one due to where we draft or because the trade cost is too high to move up, then I’d say just punt on QB in the draft and build the team, and try to find a bridge starter or a trade for a mid-tier hold the fort guy, and let’s build this roster which can use help pretty much everywhere outside of RB (assuming we keep Hall). I just feel like if we use a 2nd or later pick on a QB, it’s pretty much the same as throwing that pick in the trash. And yes I know this is Mougey not the past, but there is some underlying stinking festering reason why we haven’t been able to find a QB since Namath…Pennington is the only one who comes close and he was very good but not great…Darnold maybe the only other guy. So there is definitely something in the water … I’m guessing it’s the underlying scouting system, the owner, the consistent hiring of bad coaches from the defensive side of the ball, etc. Maybe a bit of all of those things.
Too much is contingent on where they finish. If they lose out and the Giants or Titans are at the top of the draft, I think the Jets are definitely trading for Mendoza. They'll trade an additional first and a second and get the top QB in the draft. If the Raiders are picking one, Mendoza probably isn't happening and the Jets will have to pivot. Maybe they sit at like four and just take Moore. Then I would address WR with the Colts pick, and DL and LB with the two second round picks. I think for the first time since Sanchez the Jets are in pretty good shape to accommodate a rookie QB. They have an excellent WR1, and whats looking to be a solid WR3/WR4. The offensive line is in pretty good shape, and they have the cap space to bring in a center. Breece is still a good running back, and Taylor seems to be a promising TE. Defense needs to be addressed as well, but I think the first round needs to go to QB and additional QB support.
I hope that veteran hold-the-fort guy exists. It seems like a bad year for them as well. I'm not sure who it is. Mariota? Explore a trade for Tanner McKee. Waiting until 2027 is a possibility, but you can't totally punt on 2026. A LOT will change in the coming months and probably weeks even, but at this point, my feeling is the Jets won't wait and will try to move up to get Mendoza unless the Raiders are picking first.
