1st round Centers are beneficiaries in that sense, because the options and tags work for OL as a whole, and C are least paid. So, the tag/5th year option for the C is the same as for OT, even though they are worth a lot less on open market. So, Ravens did the right thing not to pick up the option. They will try very hard to get an extension. I do hope they fail and we will get make a play for him.
That's my best scenario. If they really are going QB in the draft it would be a bad idea to also have a rookie center.
Offensive line has been bad the past couple weeks. It continues today. Not a good showing from the young guys.
Tell you, if you I were Cook, I'd be looking into conspiracy theories or something. It's as if the ENTIRE offense decided to take a day off on purpose to ruin his debut.
They showed ZERO faith in Cook today. Turtled early. Removed the running game from the kid's arsenal. Never used Breece once in space. Telegraphed every run, Engstrand figured without Tyrod, he might as well keep it simple for Cook. Almost as if he got his game plan from Dollar General. Cook never stood a chance today. Undone by his own offense.....
I’ll summarize the debacle I just observed as follows. The entire offense was pitiful and let a rookie on his very first outing down by three touchdowns down big time, starting with the OL. The defense was non existent and simply dreadful almost across the board. Our LBs are a joke. Our CS gets a massive F. How ironic that the biggest superstar is the one and only recipient of Glenn’s accountability punishment. I expect a change at DC for starters. We are so eager to find a newQB in the draft but it will be futile without a massive upgrade defensively. Brady was the least of our problems today.
The OL played like shite today. I was hoping for a decent rushing game but they couldn't do anything well today.
I don’t think it had anything to do with Cook coming in. I think it had a lot to do with the Jets Swiss cheese defense putting them in an insurmountable hole from the start and the defense teeing off because they full well knew they were leading by a lot.
From Schefter: “Sources: Jets signed starting center Josh Myers to a two-year, $11 million contract extension that ties him to New York through the 2027 season. Jets now have four of their five starting offensive linemen under contract for next year.” Good move. He’s been serviceable and that’s a fair number for him. Doesn’t stop us from drafting a center or an upgrade if the opportunity presents itself. This makes our floor at C average, maybe above average. Smart strategy. Most importantly: continuity.
Neither happy nor unhappy w/this. Was hopeful that Tippmann return to center in 2026 where he was top 10 in 2024 season. If that Myers deal is insurance w/the mindset of bigger plans to keep him as a backup, - then I'm quite fine with it.
I agree but disagree. I think Tippman’s a better guard. Myers been a solid player here. A good to great center would take this line to the next level. Glad he’s here if we bring a young QB in though.
Metrics seem to be all over the place with Myers, but he generally passes the eye test. I appreciate the continuity. Very curious how they handle LG. Will they resign Simpson or try a 1-year prove-it with AVT? I would guess the latter.
Please no on Simpson. He totally regressed this year. We don't have the luxury of hoping for a comeback. We need more certain things.
I'm of the opinion that our starting 2026 O-Line should look like; LT -------- Fashanu LG ------- Olaivavega Ioane (Penn St. w/1 of our 2nd round draft picks ----- probably the earlier one) C --------- Tippman RG ------- Ed Ingram (FA signing) RT -------- Membou
What about Mauigoa with the 2nd first rounder or 1st with a trade down and either him or Membou slot in at guard? The guys would both have to agree to it of course. But he’s an absolutely dominant devastating blocker down at Miami. I’m never in on guards before the second round unless they’re Zach Martin or Quenton Nelson status. I think he’s in that class.
Can't believe it ---- this is something I was actually going to suggest to the board under the premise of BPA regardless of position. Brilliant minds think alike. But I don't think Mauigoa will be around for our 2nd 1st round pick - unless Indy loses all 4 remaining games & drops from 18 to 13 ----- and even then its a stretch. Things change between now & April 2026, - but so far Mauigoa is top 10 pick. Membou is 6-4 332 & moves like he's 305. While is playing very admirably at RT & I wouldn't have drafted anyone else, - I think he could easily be a Pro Bowl level guard. Its a brilliant idea. And if either Mauigoa or Fashanu get hurt, - Membou seems like he could step right in to replace either.
