Here's an idea. Since we all have different opinions about who we should draft and/or pass on, why not scout our candidates for ourselves.. 1st. Lets make a list of the top QB's in the conversation 2nd: We each pick a guy and watch his game this weekend then give an honest review on what you saw.. If you're game, let me know.. here's a few names to start with.. Feel free to add more.. No particular order in this list BTW. It's just a list of names.. Class of '27 can be included.. Believe your lying eyes.. 1-Mendoza 2-Simpson 3-Moore 4-Sellers
Moore & Sellers don’t play this weekend. I’ll put together a list of teams in each of the games this weekend and their positions that we should watch.
may want to consider Cole Payton, North Dakota State Payton, a redshirt senior, is the newest and latest FCS player to barnstorm the draft boards everywhere. Standing over 6-foot-3 and weighing 235 pounds, Payton is hard to miss. Speaking of missing, Cole doesn’t do that much on the football field. In his first season as the NDSU Bison starter, Payton has completed almost 75% of his passes for over 2,600 yards and 15 touchdowns. So far in 2025, he has shown more than sufficient arm talent and above-average arm strength. Payton can generate velocity on out-breaking NFL throws and shows clean RPM on intermediate shots. He’s not a pure “big arm” guy, but his arm talent is comfortably NFL-caliber. The Bison signal-caller has solid accuracy between the numbers and on rhythm throws, especially in play-action concepts. His athletic profile has been his calling card to success in 2025. He epitomizes what a dual-threat QB is; he can extend plays, create explosive plays with his legs, and can throw off-platform almost as well as when he is in structure. Payton sure does have some early-year Josh Allen-like qualities in his game.
I'm actually planning on watching the Ohio State v. Indiana game from start to finish. I want to see this kid all these people are talking about in Mendoza against, finally, the best competition college has to offer. Not much of a college guy these days but looking forward to a decent game, hopefully.
Can he play QB from under the center or is he shotgun only.. Deep ball? I didn't see him take any snap under center from the vids.
Let me know who it looks like I’m missing. There are some interior lineman and tackles in the mid-rounds I omitted. I also didn’t really add some of the mid-round corners since I’d guess (and hope) we’re not in a huge market for them. I’m sure there are some safeties and linebackers I missed. I also didn’t go too deep into the 2026 class at any position other than the obvious QB/WR’s. @Cman69 you guys can disagree, but I think we should unstick this. Not sure about everyone else, but when I see stuff sticky’d I generally blow past it to the main topics. I’m sure this will get enough activity that it’ll be at the top of the list in the next two days. North Texas vs. Tulane North Texas 2027 Drew Mestemaker, QB (unknown - eligible for draft in 2027) Saturday Texas Tech vs. BYU Texas Tech #31 David Bailey, Edge (projected 1st round) #9 Romello Height, Edge (projected mid-round) #10 Jacob Rodriguez, ILB (projected late-round) #5 Caleb Douglas, WR (projected mid-round) BYU #4 LJ Martin, RB (projected mid-round)* #17 Jack Kelly, ILB (projected mid-late round) Georgia vs. Alabama Georgia #3 CJ Allen, ILB (projected 2nd-3rd round) Alabama 2026 #15 Ty Simpson, QB (projected 1st-2nd round) #72 Parker Brailsford, OC (projected 2nd-4th round) #74 Kadyn Proctor, OT (projected 1st round) #22 LT Overton, Edge (projected 1st-2nd round) #5 Germie Bernard, WR (projected 2nd-4th round) #18 Bray Hubbard, S (projected mid-rounds) #3 Keon Sabb, S (projected mid-rounds) 2027 #2 Ryan Williams, WR (not eligible until 2027, projected top ten) Ohio State vs. Indiana Ohio State 2026 #8 Arvel Reese, Edge/LB (projected top 10) #2 Caleb Downs, FS (projected top 10) #17 Carnell Tate, WR (projected 1st round) #97 Kenyatta Jackson, DE (projected mind round) #6 Sonny Styles, LB (projected 2nd-4th round) 2027 #10 Julian Sayin, QB (not eligible until 2027, projected first round) #4 Jeremiah Smith, WR (not eligible until 2027, projected top 5) Indiana #15 Fernando Mendoza, QB (projected 1st round) #13 Elijah Sarratt, WR (projected mid-round) #1 Amare Ferrell, CB (projected 2nd-3rd round) Duke 2026-2027 #10 Darian Mensah, QB (unknown, likely won’t declare until next year)
Personally, I look for the bolded topics and stop when I see them. For those that haven't picked up on that it means there are new replies to a thread you have replied to and not read yet. @Jonathan_Vilma, tell me more about Arvel Reese. Other than Mendoza, he is one of the kids I'm going to focus on as well as Tate (wr) and Styles (lb). It's a little confusing your dates. When you say 2026, do you mean they are going to play in 2026 and be draft eligible in the 2027 draft or...?? Do you see what I mean? For example, 2025, to me, looks like they would have been draft eligible in 2025... I could be overthinking this one. LOL! Having said that, this is fantastic! I don't know where you find the time but, hell, keep it up! Have you ever thought about applying to work for Pro Football Focus? I actually had an interview with them back when they were first getting going and it was a trip!
I’ll fix the dates. No kids (yet), two dogs, one understanding girlfriend and not many other hobby’s outside of football and the gym lol. Sometimes sad but true to say out loud. Reese isn’t a pure edge and he’s a waste as a pure ILB because he can rush the passer as good as anyone. I historically have gotten burned thinking “tweeners” are good prospects but he’s so dominant and physically gifted it’s hard to ignore. Long arms, as strong as any 265 pound end (he’s around 240), fast and explosive off the line. Oh and he can cover if you need him to. Drawback is he hasn’t played much until this year. Why? He’s the closest player I’ve seen to Micah Parsons in terms of the versatility and smaller size/athletic ability.
Just looked him up, he's only 20 so he probably will fill in a bit more over the next 5 years. My guess is, if he's 240 now his "24 year old" playing weight will probably be somewhere in the 250's which would be perfect. Man, I'm telling you, if he could end up being 3/4ths the player Parsons is, I'd jump on him at 5/6/7 or wherever we end up, barring one of the QB's falling to us, of course. It would be suicide if Mendoza/Moore falls to us that we wouldn't take the shot. However, if they are gone (please, please PLEASE no trade ups) do you think he's worth a 5-10 pick or would you wait hoping he fell to us at the Indy pick? He and Mendoza are my top focuses this Saturday, I'm going in with my "scouting hat" on. LOL This team simply must find multiple high impact guys with all this juice Moogs has traded for. Tell you what, it's a good hobby to have! Nothing wrong with it at all! You're safe, in your home where your dogs and girlfriend know right where you are and the heat is always on and snacks are in the fridge! LOL!!! Believe it or not, kids, at least the newborn kind, essentially ADD to your available time to do research as most of the time you're just watching them. Keep up the good work! And, I wasn't kidding, not sure what PFF is doing now for staff but it would be worth a look if you ever wanted a football related gig outside coaching! Then again, you could be making a quarter mill a year doing something different. What do I know! LOL!!!
Great work @Jonathan_Vilma I love CJ Allen as a prospect. Super athletic, tough, doesn't miss tackles, smart. Has started at Georgia since a true freshman. You listed him as 2-3 rounds but no way he drops to the 3rd. There's a much better chance he goes at the end of the first. I wouldn't be mad at all if that was our 2nd first round selection, depending on who was picked first of course. I could definitely see him as a Glenn guy.
No disagreement. Those aren’t really my projections, just more of an average from the various draft sites.
Mestemaker looked like shit last night but he was under a ton of pressure all night. Should be interesting to see where he goes next year cause I’m sure someone’s going to throw a bag at him.
Adam Trick (Miami (OH)) and Nadame Tucker (Western Michigan) playing in the MAC championship might be worth a luck. They both have a million pressures this year and a bunch of sacks. The MAC has produced James Harrison, Jerry Hughes, Jason Taylor, Khalil Mack, Max Crosby, and some other good edges/defensive players.
Imagine if the Jets somehow were able to come up with Bain and then Allen in the first round? That’s basically a new front 7 look right there.
Texas Tech defense was on fire against BYU. Rodriguez played well, and will definitely uphold his draft status. Roberts had two interceptions and was a force to be reckoned with all game. BYU did everything they could to stay in game but did not have answers for TT defense.
Word is that Ty Simpson is pretty banged up with a back injury. Not excusing his performance and I want nothing to do with him for the Jets but he looks horrible.
Germie Bernard (WR) on Alabama is a stud. No elite physical qualities other than the fact that he runs great routes, is always open and always makes plays.
