When is all well and done, we might be picking around 6 or 7 and 23 or so in the first round. You can really add some monster talent in the first two rounds with those four picks. In no particular order, my gut says the four picks will include: Edge, LB, QB and S and or CB. May be a WR instead of one of those, but we might not.
I sure hope the jets go edge and LB early in the draft. IMO they need to move on from McDonald and Sherwood as 3 down players. I know Sherwood has a big contract, but he gets totally abused in the run game . But both of them are both way TOO SMALL for their NFL position. Did you see the way the Falcons ran ALL OVER the jets on Sunday? A bigger/heavier edge and MLB would help.
and put another Man-mountain in the middle to help Briggs stop the gut runs. We have to get bigger on the DL and the Middle.
I don’t know about moving on from McD, to me it’s more so he should not be a starter but should be in a situational pass rusher role Maybe semantics, as either way I absolutely think a starting DE is one of our top priorities, right up there with WR after the QB, so yes, I want to move on from him as a starting edge player for us, but I think he could still be a factor in that third down pass rusher role for us
We're going to need an entirely new LB room. Sherwood has been awful, I'd love to move on from him somehow rather than keeping him around as a bad player playing a smaller role than his contract dictates. I also have a bad feeling Quincy is going to be gone even though I'd much prefer to keep him around. Most likely scenario: Sherwood here, Quincy gone, journeyman LB (or maybe Anzalone?), day 3 rookie What I want: Quincy, Anzalone, day 2 or 3 rookie
Hey guys. I moved these messages from my ruining the draft position thread. If you want we can keep this thread in the main forum or I can move it to Draft Forum. Let me know what everybody thinks.
Would really like for us to draft and develop our own qb, not blow a bunch of first rounders on someone. I dont watch college football, so I rely on Reading here . I’d be ok signing someone e decent to get us through to the 27 draft.
Tell you what, you watch the Ohio State v. Indiana game, this weekend, and you will get all the answers you need on the QB, most likely, to end up on the team. Of course, that is ONLY if the Jets trade up. The Jets will land somewhere between 5 - 10 on draft day and, regardless of who decides to stay/come out, any QB worth drafting 2nd round and above will be gone by 5. The folks on this board are basically split. Folks, like me, are a flat NO when it comes to trading up, period, for any of these "fair to middling" QB's while there are others that seem to be cool with throwing the kitchen sink at moving up a handful of spots. Personally, I think Mendoza is going to get "owned" by Ohio State and it won't even be close. I'd be willing to bet OSU thumps by at LEAST 20. If Mendoza can't keep the Hoosiers within 7 against a quality college program like OSU, then I want him nowhere near the Jets. I feel he is one of those that looks "great" against average college competition but will be fully exposed when going up against the better teams in college. Just an opinion...because, as everyone knows, opinions are like your "starfish." Everyone has one.
Personally I like it here in the main forum as it’s the one place I always hit up, but if everyone wants it in the draft forum that works, I just think it may not get as much traffic there and the stuff is so intertwined with our ongoing season My two cents
I'll be watching the game too. Paying particular attention to both Mendoza and the hyped OSU WR everyone says can't miss in the NFL. Maybe we'll get lucky and Mendoza will be gone and Mougey will pivot to WR or Edge with our pick.
The Jets will not be trading up for a QB and unless Mendoza or Simpson slides down they won’t be drafting one until day 2 or even later. In fact this upcoming draft is looking more like a potential defensive bonanza for the Jets. They need just about everything. DT, another edge, LBs, a S, even another CB. They could also use another IOL and a big WR. I’m going to say they go defense early and often if they keep their top 4 picks I will say 3 will be defense. Plenty of defensive talent will be available and all 4 picks should be starters day one.
If I had to rank needs right now, I’d say something like this: - QB - WR or Edge/DE - LB - CB - S - IOL - DT I’m pretty set on the top two there, the second set is more fluid and could shift around based on who is available when we pick I guess the thing about these kinds of drafts is that when you have needs pretty much everywhere, you can go BPA and still fill a huge need, so there’s that
Could not agree more DON'T. TRADE. UP. The jets are not one player away. The need an infusion of talent at several positions, not just one (or two...).
So much can happen from now until April. However, sitting here in early December, I have 2 strategies I would use if I were GM. #1 If Dante Moore declares and is available with our first pick, I'm taking him. He is the only FQB I see as of now. I'm sure some other QBs will be taken early and guys like Mendoza and Simpson may turn out to be Pro Bowlers. It's a crapshoot, but I really like Moore as a prospect. Then with my second pick I take his TE Kenyon Sadiq and try to replicate the 2-headed TE monster that the Patriots used many moons ago. #2 If Moore is off the board, I would love TJ Parker, DE CLEMSON. Guy is going to be a stud is this league. 6'3" 265lbs with elite arm length and hand fighting skills. If his get off was a tick faster, he'd be a Top 5 pick. That is something that can be improved upon. Then I'm taking KC Concepcion - WR TEXAS AM with the second pick. He starts in the slot immediately.
