Comparing him to other disappointments doesn't make him successful. He's a typical streaky pass rusher that disappears for more than half a season and usually only produces against shit players. That's just not worthy of a top-half first round pick. The pick didn't make sense then and it certainly doesn't make a lot more sense now.

I don’t hate the guy as I think pass rushers are a premium position, but I definitely DO think we need to draft a full time Edge player high in the draft this year so we can use McD more as a situational pass rusher instead of as a starting DE.

He’s not consistent enough nor is he a good enough run defender to be a starting DE…much like Huff was for us…a good pass rusher but not a full time starter due to those two limitations

He’s worth having on the team but he’s not a full time starter to me

I think he's exactly the type of player you don't keep around because his numbers are deceptive enough to demand a starting salary even though he doesn't show up for the whole season. They won't be able to keep him on a limited pitch count and he's not worth keeping as a starter IMO.

Yeah don’t disagree with that…he’s not worth a true starting DE salary so sure, wouldn’t keep him if he demands that type of money…kind of similar to what JD did with Huff…Huff was very vocal about not giving a hometown discount and JD at least knew enough to not pay him huge starting DE money (now if only he hadn’t traded for a holding out guy like Reddick!)

McD seems similar to me…a guy who can cause problems for an OL as a situational guy…but agree not a starting DE guy and shouldn’t be paid that kind of money

That near sack was so annoying. Would have nailed the parlay if not for that.

Letting Bryce Huff go was a mistake. That's not hindsight. A lot of us here wanted to keep him since he was an undrafted gem. Not sure why it didn't work out in Philly for him, but he's now in SF doing very well again (Salah is D coordinator). He was MUCH MORE stout against the run compared to WMcD & also generated CONSTANT pressure on the QBs. Huge contributing factor to NYJ having great pass defense. Not sure if its true (I'd believe it 100% though) but stories were that Woody J. didn't want to give him the $.

The ripple effect of his departure spread to an abortion decision to trade a 3rd round draft pick (upcoming in 2026) to Philly for Hasaan Reddick & probably contributed to the WMcD draft pick as the FO was realizing they weren't going to re-sign Huff after 2023 & needed to draft WMcD in April 2023.

Not the main reason why NYJ is missing playoffs but can certainly make this a branch in the venn diagram explaining why this continues to be a losing organization.

Reminds me when NYJ let RB Danny Woodhead go after finding him as an undrafted FA - only to watch him flourish as a role player in the Patriot's success. Thank you for that one, Sexy Rexy.

Great post. And Danny Woodhead, slowly I turned, step by step, inch by inch . . . ! A friend of mine and I had a game we played called 'Danny Woodhead Scores Again'. We would race to text one another. And guess what we would race to text first? If you guessed "DANNY WOODHEAD SCORES AGAIN!", you would be correct, Sir.
