That’s the kind of depth that helps a team make the playoffs. Shabanov is what the islanders have been needing for some time, you can tell when he touches the puck he’s a threat to score. I really have to temper my excitement right now because this is what I have wanted to see from this team for a while, a youth movement with skilled players.
Enjoy the hockey and the team guys and gals as in 2 or 3 years things should be even better than they currently are and right now things are pretty damn good in Islander land,,,,,,again enjoy the ride
Lee and Horvat were scolding the fans yesterday about coming out to the home games (something I always find annoying), and now the team is playing far worse than they did in any game on the road trip. Down 1-0, and it would be worse if not for Sorokin. Time to get your skates moving, boys.
Disappointing start to the homestand - they didn't seem to play with much urgency until there were 5 minutes left in the game, and a power play and pulling the goaltender weren't enough to generate the tying goal.
All of those opportunities that were being cashed in on on the road trip are not leading to goals in these 5 periods at home.
Shocked that they actually won a shootout. Romanov out for five to six months after shoulder surgery. Rantanen now suspended one game after another game misconduct for boarding someone in yesterday's game. I wonder if his coach made a bullshit excuse after the game for this one too. Pageau out week-to-week with an upper-body injury (after playing the entire game yesterday, so it's kind of odd).
How about staying out of the crease as well? Palmieri just saw how they benefited from goalie interference against Dallas, and he skates into the crease and gets called for GI on tying goal.
Wow, possibly the worst play of Schaefer's NHL career leads to a shorthanded 2-on-1 goal, in another home game where the Islanders fail to capitalize on the chances that they did capitalize on during the road trip.
The disappointing homestand continues, and Palmieri is added to Romanov and Pageau on the list of injuries. At least they got a point, had a sellout for the fourth straight game, and Schaefer continued to be the best 18-year-old defenseman anyone has seen since Bobby Orr. Edit: Palmieri out for the season with a torn ACL. Sigh.
Wow, this homestand is really pathetic. Yet another game with good defense, and an offense that is totally incapable of taking advantage of any opportunities. 1-3-1, and no sign of getting any better.
Tough home stand but this team is far from a finished product. The young players we have look like they belong, but injuries are hitting this team, and they don't have the depth to overcome that.
Nice win over Tampa. Sorokin stood on his head but got the 2 points which was badly needed. Another tough one on Thursday vs Colorado to close out the home stand.
Talk about a tough game tonight. The Avalanche are 19-1-6. One regulation loss in twenty-six games. If the Isles get even a point tonight, I will be happy.
Great ending to the homestand, with wins against the hottest team and the best team in the league. 6-1 and 3-3-1 on bookend road trip and homestand, with the surprise being which was which.
Great win last night. I think the Avs had a 17-game point streak going into last night's game. Only their 2nd regulation loss on the season. Best part is the Isles send any angry Avs team into MSG on Saturday.
Another nice road win against a good team. Sorokin ties Chico Resch for the most shutouts in Islanders history, with 25. Chico has held the team record for shutouts for more than 50 years!
Not a bad weekend getting the split in Florida. I figured Sunday was going to be a tough one to win vs the Cats playing B2B coming off a win vs the Lightning. Hopefully they can start another winning streak tonight vs Vegas.
