I saw these comments. I don’t take them as arrogance or blaming prior coaches even a little bit. He’s saying they’re going to give him a shot at being a QB and not a glorified RB. I don’t even see him say it’s gonna work. What I do see him say is they’re gonna surround him with people that can help him and they did. The OL is playing very well, high end RB, receivers are getting open which means the WRs and OC are doing their job. No clue how that comes off as arrogant or bashing other coaches.
The last time I was fully invested in the Jets was before they hired Gase, I mostly just laugh at them now. But since this thread has taken a Fields turn, if this Jets team had the 2022 defense, they'd have beaten the Patriots 14-13 and people would be talking him up.
For shits and giggles I just watched Brady Cook's highlight video. He looks like a pretty good athlete that can also run with the ball. Put him in and see if he can be a viable backup in this league. Low risk/high reward at this point.
I'm beginning to think that it's the optics of a non-drafted QB outplaying a $40M FA. They would much rather have TT come in and save the season than having Cook come in and prove they could have spent that cash better. Woody probably is doing a slow burn and it wouldn't surprise me if he's behind Fields not being benched.
I would go with #3. But I also have to ask: why is Tyrod Taylor even on this team? He's been kicking around the league since 2011 without accomplishing much. I thought we were trying to get a good young nucleus of players going, he doesn't really fit. Ron
I've been following The Jets for over 40 years, as a lot of you have, and more. I've spent thousands in that time flying over from the UK for games. The Patriots game was overnight on Thursday for us and its the first live televised Jets game I've missed. Slept through it. To paraphrase a definition of madness, it's doing the same thing over again, and expecting a different result. We are seeing diehard fans checking out now.
I think every team needs a somewhat reliable veteran backup QB. Someone who can win a game if needed and won't stink, but knows his role. I'm fine with our choice of backup QB. It's the choice of starter that is the problem
I mean it was worth a shot. They were willing to evaluate and give him the chance to prove he can play QB, to even give him a chance to play in the pocket. But in reality that’s not who he is, they had to change to play up to his running ability and to realize that he just can’t complete or run passing concepts to keep the offense on task.
He is really a Rodgers holdover. Last year on his contract, he won't be here next season. Top 5 backup in the league though, not sure who you'd rather have.
Not this year. So far he's failed us. He took a vicious beating in the Tampa Bay game he kept getting back up for that he gets my respect but he wasn't productive in that game until the end when Tampa changed up its defense. Against Carolina he failed to spark the offense opportunities were there he missed. If Coach A.G. makes a switch and he doesn't perform against Baltimore really they should give Cook a shot to play.
you have watched ALOT of shitty qbs, what makes fields different? is it that his receivers dont get open, drop the ball when they do or is it that he cant read defenses and holds the ball too long. i mean we have seen that so often following this team, why after all those years does he make you stop watching? browning nagle, glenn foley, rick mirer, brooks bollinger, kellen clemens, josh mccown, mike white, zach wilson, trevor siemian, tim boyle. i mean thats alot of guys that have absolutely sucked.
Welp, Tyrod Taylor starting this week. Honestly Fields is better for the tank, but I get it. You can't make it look obvious.
It's cumulative AC. Just too much suckness. Kinda like the old "No No" song from Ringo Starr back in the day.
