This 100%. And totally unfair to judge him w/such a $hitty QB. Very happy he was included in the trade. For God's sake, - if we can simply get the 16th ranked QB on this team, - it'll be a dramatic improvement. And then we'll be able to judge our WRs. I liked what I saw from Metchie.
With the exception of the drop on the slant, those were trash throws by Fields. The deep one down the sideline he had 2 steps on the defender, had to slow up and catch it over his shoulder. Yes, it hit his hands, yes he could’ve made that amazing catch, sure we can criticize that. On the put and up he ran he was wide open. If Fields leads him it’s a huge gain, maybe a TD. I can’t even explain wtf Fields was doing with that throw, it was inexcusable and inexplicable. Sure, we can criticize Mitchell because after changing direction and contorting himself completely he got hands on the ball and dropped it. Sure. My take- Mitchell in one game got more open and ran better routes than any receiver we’ve seen this year except maybe GW, and we’re going to trash him for having to make up for all of Fields’ inaccuracy and shitty play? Mitchell looked like the best receiver we’ve had this season, and if he had even a reasonable QB he’d have had a monster debut with us.
I agree completely, thing with Fields is that I was under the impression he had a Canon for an arm just terrible accuracy but he under threw tf out of him on what would have been a walk in TD. I'm just as excited about Mitchell as I was before the game, need a QB.
Agree = me too. Side note === it bothers me that this is Metchie's last contract year & we won't be able to evaluate him with such $hitty QB play. And he won't be interested (or at least his agent won't) in staying here on a 1yr prove it deal for the 2026 season.
Exactly. A receiving core of GW, Mitchell, and Metchie could be really good with the right QB. Especially with Mason Taylor at TE and Arian Smith in the wings.
He’s an RFA so we can put an original round tender on him. It’ll be around $3 mil which I’d absolutely give him and if another team signs him and we chose not to match, we’d get a second rounder. Aka… he’s gonna be a Jet next year unless Mougs is braindead.
Honestly I thought he just didn't make tough catches. It's not like he was bobbling the easy ones. Perhaps the deep ball was medium difficulty, but the other two were late adjustments because the ball was thrown to the wrong place. Could he have caught them? Sure. But should he have caught them? Not necessarily. I think he may just be an athletic guy with average hands.
Some of the misses would have taken extraordinary hands or body control to make. Nania sucks but he just posted every Mitchell miss on his Twitter feed and man, he was open a lot. If the bong was thrown further he walks in. He burnt Gonzo late in the game and Fields threw a ball about 10 yards too short. Another one up the sideline could have gone for a score with Mitchell’s speed but Fields missed him wildly and even if he made the catch he’d have been on the ground. Extremely frustrating.
Agreed. The deep ball down the left sideline is a play you want to see him make. But he’s also in a dead sprint on a double move anticipating the ball throw ahead of him and earlier. If he’s led up the field, he scores. Or if it’s at least thrown to his inside shoulder, he can adjust to it since no receiver is really anticipating a sideline throw. Fields threw it like a back shoulder fade although I think that’s just because he sucks not because he wanted to. The right sideline man-beater drifting fade was just a terrible ball. Maybe with a bit more comfortability with the QB he can adjust but hard to blame him on that. He has to catch that slant or in route, whichever it was. No excuse on that. Dreadful play by AD and poor concentration.
That play at the sideline was a poor pass but you gotta seize your moment and make a play if you are Mitchell. New team, been here a week, catch that one and show you are for real. I am very disappointed
The bomb down the left side should have been caught but it wasn't exactly a layup and Fields should have led him. He had a step, that's a TD if at least 20 other QBs are throwing that ball. https://x.com/Michael_Nania/status/1989342411202637966?s=20 This should have made it a one score game at the end. Instead we end up turning the ball over on downs a few plays later. A throw any competent NFL QB has to make. https://x.com/Michael_Nania/status/1989341279944384774?s=20 This one was brutal. Look at the space Mitchell would have had to operate in with his speed. He should have been led, instead he was underthrown. No way to know if Mitchell was supposed to come back but Fields will never get the benefit of the doubt on a missed throw.
I just watched a tweet (can't figure out how to put it on here anymore) and AD absolutely cooked Gonzo a lot. Justin Fields is so fucking bad man. I'm really excited about him still.
AD got open a lot…a decent QB connects on a bunch of those throws That being said, yes those catches were not easy…over the shoulder is one of the hardest catches to make, the others were inaccurate as fuck… But still…you get your hands on those balls, you have to catch some of them…were they bad throws? Absolutely. But if you want to be a good receiver, you’re going to have to catch bad balls…shit, GW does it a lot
