Trading any combination of our first and second round picks over the next few years for Joe Burrow would be such an amazingly Jets thing to do. The guy can’t stay upright, his contract is gigantic and will need a new one as soon as we trade for him And he couldn’t get it done with one of the best offensive rosters in football, minus a line. That’s a fast track to this entire regime losing their jobs. We are finally set up perfectly to build the right way, turning around to do it the wrong way would be unbelievably deflating.
Wow honestly I’m surprised it’s that high at 142…I would have guessed lower. That stat still stinks, mind you, but when you have 4 games like the ones noted above literally under 50% completion (in some cases WAY under) and literally less than like 60 yards passing, I just have no words. Like the original poster of that said before…those are pathetic even for a HS QB
I would stick with, Fields. Draft a QB in 27'. There are going to be some really good WR in the next two drafts for sure. We must get one In order for me to successfully NOT stroke out of existence. That's all I got. Am I even on topic anymore? Fuck this team. Alright, I'm back.
Always prioritize finding a franchise qb. It turns everything around instantly, and for the foreseeable future.
If the Jets don’t take a QB with the top 4 picks, they damn sure better take a flier on a mid-round guy. There should be plenty of guys with a lot of experience available in round 4.
There's no way this team can roll with Fields as their starter in 26'. He's played two good games, but the rest were absolutely abysmal and so far from NFL-caliber. At most, if for some reason they don't end up with one of the top QBs in this draft, you sign another veteran to pair with Fields and draft somebody on Day 2 or early Day 3. Let's see what Tyrod does if/when he plays more, but with his injury history, I don't even know that I'd want him back as QB2 next year. TBD
yeah gotta get someone better next year for sure also Tyrod barely plays and can't stay healthy. I think hes been on the injury report every week this entire season and he missed his chance to play when they were looking all in on benching Fields. Cant have that from your veteran backup, he needs to be available. Tyrod and Fields both hit the dusty trail in the offseason
I agree they should go all in on QB in '27, but they can only bring Fields back if they plan on tanking all of 2026, because he's one of the worst starters we have ever had.
You’d have to assume they know there’s absolutely no way Fields can be on the field for us next year right? I can’t think of many worse options. He can’t throw forward passes… I don’t know how an offense is supposed to progress and mature when you can’t throw the ball forward. For this season I’m sure he has another few weeks in him before they pull the plug but once it’s pulled they need to completely move on. Take the cap hit and get him off the roster. He can’t even be a backup just in case and he sure as hell can’t be the guy a potential rookie QB sits and learns from.
unfortunately, I give it like a not-insignificant, 43% chance, Fields take some snaps for the Jets next year. My thoughts are as follows. Fields gets $10 mill from the Jets next year whether hes on the team or not and you know the Jets. They will, of course, draft a QB high in the draft and believe they need a veteran placeholder. Basically, how teams operated in 2001, thats how we roll. So they poke around the veteran market a bit, make some calls and realize its gonna be close to $10 mill for anyone. And Fields is already here for that price so they just go with it, maybe. as far as taking snaps? it doesn't move my 43% projection at all cause if he's here as the backup QB he will see the field at some point, Jets backup QB ALWAYS plays
I don't think they are mutually exclusive, but if you find a franchise QB and they develop him properly and surround him with talent, the playoff drought will end.
Most know I really can't stand Winston but he's about to get the start with the Gints. Keep an eyeball on him, Wentz and a couple others. ALL options for the 2026 season and ALL options 5 times better than Fields. I'm cool with not throwing away $10 million and letting Fields rot on the bench as a backup but he simply can't start next year. I also do not see them taking a QB high in 2026 just by sheer virtue of the number of holes on this team. QB, CB, LB, DL, WR x 2. They can burn every first and second round pick in the next 2 drafts and still have holes. It's that bad. This BPA bullshit works when you have a functioning team. In the next 24 months these loons must be drafting for need, need and more NEED. The only position they can't afford to over evaluate is the QB. It's going to be highly interesting.
I don’t know…I think for most teams, but for SURE for the Jets, using a mid round pick on a QB will not work. It’s a nice idea but it just hardly ever works. I posted somewhere (can’t remember the exact thread now) where of all 32 starting QBs, 26 of them are first round picks, with a couple notable exceptions like Hurst (2nd), Dak (4th) and Purdy (7th)…couple other 2nd rounders like the Saints rookie, but overwhelmingly if you need a QB in the draft, it almost HAS to be a first rounder. That’s true for the NFL in general, but 100% true for the Jets…in our history, NOT ONE of our later round QBs have developed…not a one. 2000 Pennington 1st - good pick 2003 Bollinger - 6th - wasted pick 2006 Clemens - 2nd - wasted pick 2008 Ainge - 5th - wasted pick 2009 Sanchez - 1st - I guess good in that we went to the 2 AFCCG’s but overall never a good QB 2011 McElroy - 7th - wasted pick 2013 Geno - 2nd - wasted pick for us, but had success like 10 years later for someone else 2014 - Boyd - 6th - wasted pick 2015 Petty - 4th - wasted pick 2016 Hack - 2nd - one of the WORST picks in the history of the NFL I would say! 2018 Darnold - 1st - good pick but our coaching / GM fucked it up 2020 Morgan - 4th - wasted pick 2021 - Zach - 1st - wasted pick That’s a pretty shitty list, but one thing I CAN say is … yeah, let’s not dwell on the fantasy that we can draft a QB in the “mid rounds” and hope he develops…I’d expand that to the 2nd round as well…it’s a fantasy. This team hasn’t been able to develop even first round QB’s, let’s not delude ourselves into hoping to “luck into” a developmental QB. And I totally get the “that history has no bearing on THIS GM and THIS HC and THIS OC” talk…I get it. But from everything we know, from knowing who the owner is, knowing that the scouting staff is mostly the same as the last few years, knowing that we did NOT hire a QB Guru or OC as our HC, knowing that everything about this new staff is kind of similar in terms of HC profile to the last several staffs, from knowing that our current brain trust CHOSE Fields SPECIFICALLY as their option, from knowing that anyone with eyes can see that Fields is a terrible QB and yet they STILL trot him out there week after week…. From all of these things, I can see NO evidence that drafting a QB outside the first round would have any real chance at succeeding. Shit, I think from all of this, I’d be more likely to expect them to fuck up a FIRST round QB, let alone succeed at a mid round QB. Forget it…outside of like 3 cases (Hurts, Dak, and Purdy), there is very little reason to believe that QB’s drafted out of the first round will be any good. I’d rather use that later pick on a positional player as we need to improve this roster, and instead go find a journeyman vet QB to sign, as chances are that journeyman will be better than whomever we would draft in round 3
The key here, though, is to make sure, when they DO draft a guy in the 1st, he's a sure fire talent. Pennington was about as sure fire as you can get. He was NFL ready. If had a 15 or 20% stronger arm he would have been phenomenal. They simply can't throw a dart and get one of these kids in the 1st round that is a "maybe" or will "need some time to develop." It MUST be a Peyton Manning/Andrew Luck type that comes in and is ready to hit the ground running. Becaaauuusseee...as you so correctly pointed out, this team simply has NEVER had the infrastructure to develop a QB and, from what my eyes tell me, they currently do NOT have one in place now either. Unless this is one of Tanner's hidden "talents," which, I must say, is failing miserably if Fields is regressing. So, I'll assume he does not.
If Tyrod was good enough to be a starter, it would've happened by now. It doesn't matter, is what I'm saying. You already paid, Fields. You have him next year anyway. We are going to suck regardless, so if we suck more, our draft looks even better. It doesn't matter to me as long as they don't make some brain dead move at the position. It's whatever.
Agreed, Tyrod is not a good option But hell the fuck NO … I can’t stomach another year of Fields…I don’t care how much dead money we’d eat (I thought only this year was guaranteed, or maybe only $10M of next year’s salary is guaranteed, not sure) he needs to go. Far far away. Go find a journeyman, go figure something out, but I can’t fucking take having to watch him behind center. It’s bad enough we have to do it this year…but that is enough.
I'm man enough to admit I had a huge amount of HOPE that Fields was at the "get it stage." I mean, after the Jets toss G. Smith, Darnold it was our turn to hit it. Alas, it was not to be. Fields is as putrid now than as before. Worse really. Not sure if that's an indictment on Fields being "that" bad or Tanner is simply not a good QB coach.
