I suspect the identity of the opponent was a big factor - of all the teams the Jets have played so far the Browns have given up the most sacks
well jets are usually playing from behind so how many times is he really getting the good game script for him to just rush the passer? He’s good at what he does and he’s legit the only above average athlete on that defense, and only one with top EDGE like skills on the line. JJ is overall the better player but yeah…
I'm thinking his stat line in the next game vs New England will look more like 1 total tackle, 0 sacks, 0 TFL Its been said before very correctly by others in this forum, that he shows up but in very short spurts. We need a more consistent performer. I wonder if our FO was offered a late 2nd rounder prior to the 2025 draft but opted not to take it - strictly because they just arrived on the scene & really needed some time to evaluate (which I agree with).
Well if the telltale sign of a good WMD game is a bad OL then he should feast next game. Pats have given up the second most sacks in the league.
Well, his snaps have increased. This was the most he's seen the field all season. Last game against Cincy and this game were the increases over 70% of defensive snaps and he has 5 sacks in the 2 games. He bottomed out after the pittsburgh game only getting about half the snaps. So I guess one answer is that he disappeared because he was on the bench Another interesting thing with that- previouslyClemons was subbing in for McDonald, but Clemons has now been moved inside, and the D-Line has Johnson and McDonald both on the field, both rushing the passer on the edge.
Probs to McDonald, but I stand by my original post in this thread in January... hopefully that changes
Losing JJ definitely hurt McDonald, and giving up huge leads for all but the 4th quarter probably factored into playing less snaps. I can't even make a game by game call on it though, some of it is weird. I doubt it was a de facto benching but maybe it was a little message-sending? Worked with Quincy and Isaiah Williams.
There's really one answer to solve the pass rushing and it's both JJ and McDonald on the field. Clemons does what he needs to inside because that's who he is...he's been misused as an EDGE because a lack of EDGE option on this roster. That and he at least "holds up" out there to set the EDGE. Jets badly need to find someone worth a damn to help out...it's literally only Baron and McGregor on the outside.
I think we really need to come out of this next draft with a top edge player, then we can let JJ continue to come back from his injury, and we can move McD to more of a situational pass rusher position, like Saleh did with Huff. But make no mistake, DE/Edge is a HUGE need on this D
Will McDonald looked great yesterday, even against the run for the most part. I'm just hoping he can continue to produce on a weekly basis. I remember last year he had a few multiple sack games, but it kind of died down as the year went on. I think the guy has potential to be a 15+ sack guy when used properly. He's currently tied for 10th in the league in sacks with 7 and also has 8 TFLs, plus 11 QB hits.
Bryce Huff used to have impact at the end of games against good teams. I like that McDonald can string together sacks, but just like last year there's chunks of production and not much consistency.
Most people we have played against for years have been protecting a lead, would love to see him for a full season that we are actually a real football team. It's hard to evaluate him when we are always playing catch up and other teams don't throw. Much like evaluating Arian Smith, Adonai, Metchie will be extremely difficult if your QB can't complete a pass.
I actually called it. Ok, - so he was going up against an impressive rookie in Will Campbell. But WM4 had zero impact in this game. I liked more of what I saw from Tyler Baron. We need a bigger, stronger & more consistent player next season & beyond. I hope we trade him in the days leading up to the 2026 draft.
I figure he'll find a couple of backup tackles to rack up 5 more sacks by the end up the year and have a nice solid 12 sacks on the season. Maybe 13. And a few of those may have even had a lasting impact on the game. (Disclaimer: now that I've said that, he'll finish the season with 20 sacks)
I'll take 12 or 13 sacks any day, those are pretty solid numbers. I watched him a lot because my son loves him, he wore 9 this year and played D end because it was Wills number. He was getting chipped and misdirected most of the night, he almost got home a few times but needs to be more consistent.
Those are the traits of a second tier player, but he puts up some deceptive numbers that can be argued for a lot of money when contract time rolls around. I'd rather they got something for him because I don't want to gamble that he'll eventually put it all together, I want the guy that strip sacks the QB at the end of the 4th QTR, not the one the beasted on shabby tackles in the 2nd.
Oh I agree he is a second tier guy, I think he would be much better playing with a lead as evidenced last week but that'll never happen again this season. Maybe against Miami but even they are showing signs of life. I actually think the Saints are better than us as well.
