If somehow Fields becomes the QB we saw last game, I can see the Jets passing on a QB

Trying to skip QB drafts because of what the next one is dangerously though. Things change a lot. I’d hope the Jets are smart enough to take a QB they see available without trying to predict what happens a year and a half later.

Having the added flexibility in 2027 is great though.

Agreed…not saying skip the draft because we hope 2027 is going to be better, rather what I’m saying is to not be pressured into having to take a QB high if there really aren’t any QBs worth it at those spots…would prefer to use the top pick on a blue chip player in a premium position if available (and by premium, I mean WR, Edge, or CB since we already have two young tackles who look good), and then use the second first round pick on a mid-round QB if warranted. If there still isn’t a QB worth a mid round pick, then I’d pass altogether…2nd round QBs hardly ever make it (I posted a review of all 2025 starters and 26 of them were first rounders), and NEVER make it in case of the Jets.

I’d just keep adding to the team and find some journeyman guy like a Brissett or someone like that to hold the fort for the year.

I just don’t want to waste a high pick on a QB simply because we need one and back ourselves into a corner where we have to pass on a potentially better 2027 QB class.

But yeah, I get that it’s early and I get that the “wait until next draft” doesn’t always pan out…exactly like all the talk before this season about how this class of QBs was going to be so great and now I just keep hearing how there’s no clear cut great QB, it’s meh, etc.

    You never know

Friggin’ Mezz!! Made my morning. Exactly my point on Mendoza. I don’t hate the kid. But when you watch a bunch of him his limitations become clear. AND you really have to go back to 2024, because he’s running a different offense this year. Not entirely, but more on that point.

That all-22 YouTube clip is great if you want to just see a handful of successful plays. Although, I don’t get how the guy sees a “cannon” of an arm. Watch those full games and you’ll see how all of his success is on quick drops and rolling out, and how has very little success sitting back in the pocket picking apart a defense. The ball needs to get out of his hands fast. One of the games in that clip is Cal vs FSU - a 14-9 Cal loss. Most of that game Mendoza is doing what Indiana has him doing this year - 3-steps and the ball is out, or moving the pocket. Except for one drive - under 3-minutes, when Cal needed a TD to win, they turned him to be a pocket passer. To Mendoza’s credit, he drove them down to the 15-yard line - just not with his arm. One 20+ yard scramble, two sacks, a recovered fumble on one of those, a couple short throws for small gains, several incompletions, and a Cal loss on 4th and forever.

Skipping forward to today - yesterday’s trades have me either really concerned or pretty encouraged. On one hand, if we were setting the team up to draft the best rated QB this year, count me out. On the other hand, if we’re willing to hold off for what looks to be a better top-tier talent QB talent in 2027, I’m onboard. I’d rather pick a 2026 QB in round 2-3, target an 1st round QB in 2027, and used this draft to set him or her up for success.

Wasn’t my favorite either. Mostly because of a bias back then against Texas Tech QBs and doubts that they could translate that game into NFL success. If I were picking a QB that year, it would have been Watson or nobody. I was wrong, but I don’t think ANYONE could have predicted this Mahomes back then.

Heh. I love all those unwritten NFL draft rules that make sure mediocre teams stay mediocre. Some of the same folks who will insist on using our first 2026 pick on the consensus “best” QB also insisted you should never use a top-10 pick on the tightend position to draft Brock Bowers.

Sorry. I’m still bitter about that one.

It would be fun right now if we had Bowers

I'm starting to feel like Dante Moore is QB1 this year. He's only 20 years old so drafting him and heaving him sit behind Fields is a good option IMO.

If not, maybe take a Sellers or Nussmeier in the top of the 2nd.

The podcast CFB world seems to think Moore is definitely going back to school. And I think he should too. Love the quick smooth release though.
