the only thing I can hope for is that he is doing the thing where he says one thing to the media and internally says/does another.
You think he’s going to just sh** on another grown man and his QB? He would never. Glenn has too much class to just sh talk fields in a public space.
Being critical of bad play isn’t the same thing as talking shit. A good coach knows how to answer a question about a bad performance without pretending it wasn’t a bad performance.
In all my years i can remember just a couple of drunken fans running out onto the playing field, but maybe not since Shea Stadium - they were removed before they affected play. The playing field is where every single game ever played in the NFL has been decided. Fans do not make the decisions about who owns the team, who the owner hires, who the GM drafts, picks up on waivers or trades for. Fans do not train the team, keep them healthy or call the plays. They neither kick nor receive, run nor throw. They don't commit penalties, fumble, drop the ball. Fans have absolutely nothing whatsoever to do with which team wins the game. If you really believe that the people who run and work for the New York Jets think you are important enough to allow you to influence them in how they run the business, you have a much larger problem than being a fan of the New York Jets. By comparison, you made Woody Johnson look smarter today. Get help.
But just like this forum, there are likely people in the Jets organization and even players who see his athleticism, speed and arm strength, and think that Fields can be a good QB. So there's pressure to play him, and second guessing when you don't. That's why he is a coach killer, because there appears to be potential and it isn't obvious that he shouldn't play. It takes a lot of guts from the coach, and strong support from the FO, to make a move like this. I hope AG has both.
Lots of talk about Glenn but I’d be giving Engstrand 4 weeks/3 games to save his job after witnessing some of the very worst playcalling I’ve seen in 40+ years. We’re approaching the ‘easy’ stretch in the schedule (did anyone expect to beat the Broncos?). A game plan with Tyrod Taylor and some competency (I know!) should be enough to run the Panthers close and beat the Bengals and Browns. I think we are 2-7/3-6 before the customary Patriots defeat.
The only way an owner would do this is if their team was losing money, and giving the NFL collective bargaining, licensing, and merchandising revenue, this is a near impossibility.
Engstrand has had his four weeks & three games. Which game this year have you seen good offensive playcalling or scheme? Yes, it's the Panthers, Bengals and Browns, but still brave of you to think we're going 3-0 after this start. Likely result is 1-2. Don't forget those teams are also looking at the Jets and thinking it's a get-well win for them. Plus Joe Flacco gets another week to get accustomed to the Bengals, and Lamar Jackson may be back by that game. We didn't by any chance cut Rico Dowdle from training camp or diss him in the draft or steal his lunch money in fifth grade or anything like that, did we?
They have hired decent coaches. But when things go badly, decent employees don't go backstabbing the other employees because they know they can get another job elsewhere once they're fired by/freed from the Jets. So Bowles, LaFleur, and Saleh accepted their backstabbings from Maccagnan and Douglas and are doing very well now. Gase was also a backstabber but he only backstabbed Maccagnan which was kind of funny. Meanwhile most owners don't have double digit IQs and fall for a backstabber, but Woody does.
I'm not so sure. If you look at the Giants, it seemed fans, including WFAN talk show hosts were pushing for Dart to replace Wilson, and despite the Giants saying Wilson is our QB every Monday, they went to Dart. Seems to me if it were up to the Giants, they would have kept Wilson all season because they didn't bring him here to be the backup.
Glenn's biggest asset to the fan base was his likability and his history with this franchise. Press conferences like the ones yesterday and today are going to melt those assets like a block of butter in a microwave.
Rex will be okay as long as he stays away from the draft. Spending like 5 or 6 1st round picks on defense, most of who didn't even make it to a second contract, sunk his tenure.
he preaches accountability which we all were proud to finally hear but then the QB throws for -10 yards and he attacks the question about holding the QB accountable. Makes no sense. Not a good place to be
