Well, Glenn just confirmed that Fields is absolutely the starter next week. The reporters are savaging him for it, and he doesn't even seem to see the point of asking the question. How can someone be that delusional?

Edit: And he was condescending doing it! This is absolutely fireable.

Fields can't see the field he misses wide open players and panics and then sacked

    It's mutiny time.

FORCE his hand to make a switch.

    It's on the players.

Yeah, there’s was a time not too long ago when I still had hope. I eventually grew up and realized what would never be. Still holding out for a pony at Christmas, though.

With Fields, once I accepted he’s a lost cause, my fury shifted back to the coaching staff. You need five yards and a first down or a 62 yard field goal or the game is over. You have a decent kicker who probably can’t kick 62 yards and a lousy QB who can’t hit a target, definitely can’t sit back in the pocket and process things quickly, but at least has a pair of legs and some athleticism. I’d have taken a shot at a 62 yard field goal before EVER choosing the thing that Fields has failed at time after time after time. I can’t wrap my head around that. If Aaron Glenn comes out tomorrow and says something like, “We thought they’d never expect us to try it again,” at least I’d have closure.

I should have gone back through this thread before posting. This is exactly my point.

His name will now be engraved in team's history:

QB Justin Fields had just 45 passing yards but was sacked nine times for a loss of 55 yards, resulting in -10 net passing yards. This was a new franchise record for the lowest in a game and the lowest in the NFL since 1998.

And most of those sacks were 100% avoidable. The Broncos pass rush is good, but it wasn't like he had Lawrence Taylor coming off one end and Reggie White off the other. The guy can't read defenses, panics and freezes, is terrified of making decisions, and overall, is just as bad as Zach Wilson.

Tyrod needs to start next week, and if he gets injured, fuck it, let Brady Cook play. At this point, I don't see how even he could be worse than Fields.

Hmph. It’s funny. I would have expected that to make me feel better in a perverse sort of way. Just the opposite. Almost like a stain that bad is a clear sign of either profound stupidity, not caring, or a brand of incompetence I never saw coming.

Well, my old joke has been updated from Ken O'Brien to Justin Fields. Fields even wears #7, would you look at that. Here we go!

Just the thought of Justin Fields makes my knees buckle.

Both things are true. The OC needs to play to Fields strengths. He's completely neutralized his ability to run. One of the best running QBs the NFL has ever seen. It's insane.

But Fields is an atrocious passer. Holds the ball forever, stares down targets, afraid to throw it, doesn't move on to other reads often enough. When he does throw its late or off target. Scheme wasn't the problem all day from what I saw as even if you're letting him run more, as an NFL QB you still need to make throws top. And he had time and guys open plenty. He's terrible

He's a deer in headlights, terrified to throw the ball, because he can't, no OL can protect this bum

What strengths does he have, wildcat? He can run, but fumbles like crazy, he can't pass so he holds the ball until he gets sacked

He's a phenomenal runner. Also has a big arm I think. Don't see any downfield passes. That's about it though.

It was clear in this game (even to me finally) Fields simply could not pass. He should have been used to run and maybe get screens, some play actions, read options. Yet Tanner was trotting him out there like he is Aaron Rodgers like statue. We only needed 6 points from the offense to win. And we could not get it.

Glenn has a lot of nerve getting pissy about Fields. He keeps clinging to that first game of the year against the Steelers as a true indicator instead of an outlier which it really is. I get that he has to protect his guy AND his GM but, what will he do when Fields gets booed mercilessly at home? We all know it's coming and if Glenn gets pissy with the fanbase? Woody I'm sure will step in at that point. If not, MetLife will become a ghost stadium filled only with opposing fans.

On the plus side, it should just be empty next week as opposed to filled with the opposing fans. I'm not sure that the Panthers' fanbase is going to travel the way that the Steelers and Cowboys fanbases do.

At this point, I'm rooting for 0-17. We're taking a QB with a Top 5 pick in the draft regardless of how the rest of this season goes, but 0-17 all but guarantees that it'll be a new regime choosing that QB.
