Fields took the sack on 4th Down because that doesn't hurt his stat line as much as an incompletion or interception. He's a selfish moron that should never start for this team again.
Why are they playing Fields in a traditional offense? Who’s designing things here? Where are our coaches??
9-17, 45 yards, 9 sacks. The fact that he finished a winnable game, is all you need to know about the New York jets .
I agree in the second half. Pressure was really starting to get there. It’s hard to blame him in the first half though. Fields had up to 4-5 seconds of clean pocket time and still took sacks. That means the protection was working and the play probably ultimately would’ve if he had a clue what he was looking at.
It hurts QBR by a lot. In the last play actually even Kurt said there was nothing open. But there were MANY plays before that where he should thrown earlier. Including that 3d down on the last possession. GW does need to hold on to that ball though, it was already in his hand. Fields sucked ass bad in this game.
But that’s the point. He does not and never has had a clue reading the field. He could have an hour back there and he’s not going to turn into Johnny Unitas. So design some plays that maximize the things he’s actually good at.
I also don’t even see him reading the field whatsoever. His head doesn’t really move. He stares at his first read (who is open sometimes!) and then panics his way into sacks.
That, and how they use him. Sticking with him is one thing, but then expecting him to succeed doing the things he’s worst at - it’s double-lunacy.
I would have thought the same, but: "For the standard NFL Passer Rating, an interception hurts a quarterback's score more than either an incompletion or a sack. The formula heavily penalizes interceptions, while a sack has no direct effect on the rating at all." The sack only causing harm to the QBR on the periphery in the form of yards lost (EDIT: In particular, in the yards per attempt category. Go figure?)
I agree that the offensive game plan is atrocious, but this guy is so obviously not an NFL quarterback, after four years in the league. There is simply no reason to play this guy - there is exactly 0% chance that he will ever be the answer at QB.
That's conventional passer rating. ESPN's QBR counts sacks heavily as a QB downward stat. I just think unless he sees someone open he doesn't throw. That's why he is late a lot and no anticipation. I doubt this is due to selfishness.
AG is protecting Fields in the presser is laughable. I know he can't crucify him, but holy hell, he was terrible.
