Every phase of coaching this year has been atrocious. This is hands down the worst coaching staff this team has ever had.

And it's a low bar. Actually, I think Engstrand has done a decent job.

Yeah I don’t get it. I posted the same thing in one of the other threads that our return game(s) have been awful and starting field position has suffered.

Our special teams has only been coaching in the NFL for 3 years and this is his first as a coordinator. That’s one coaching spot that shouldn’t be trial by fire. There are two dozen guys we can bring in that are good, experienced ST coaches.

Ergstrand has done the best of all the coaches on this team, but that’s an incredibly low bar and by no means has he been decent.

What I dont understand is what Mougey is doing with the primary kick returner, Kene Nwangwu? Nwangwu is supposed to be the kick returner but he's been hurt all year. On the freaking active roster though. Why wouldn't you put him on the IR? we could've had an extra roster spot this whole time.

yeah ok if hes out a week or two, maybe its worth keeping him on the active roster. But its about to be week 6, he doesnt even practice WTF

We have rookies everywhere…Mougey, AG, Tanner…and the one seasoned guy absolutely sucks at being a DC

This is a REALLY bad coaching staff…they don’t have a fucking clue how to attack any of this…we are seeing the same STUPID shit in week 5 that we saw in week 1. Literally ZERO improvement.

If the light doesn’t somehow come on this year and if we are still playing this way down the stretch with questionable effort, bad decisions, continuous penalties, lack of takeaways and continued turnovers…exactly the same shit we’ve watched for 5 games already, then AG has to go.

I don’t think it’s a terrible idea to go one and done instead of wasting another couple years…this has been a very bad team and the coaching has not gotten the most of our roster…yes we are not a great roster, but we are also not THIS bad.

I didn’t like the hire when we made it because I’m so fucking sick of rookie DC coaches, and so far, I’ve seen absolutely NOTHING to tell me my gut was wrong.

And it would be unfair to say that he has nothing to work with. Not that the Jets offesne is stacked, but there are some pieces there. They shoot themselves in the foot with pre-snapped penalties and turnovers.

Gotta figure that out… and good coaches do.

Sadly I am starting to agree. Lack of attention to detail across the board. I am afraid Glenn is just a bit in over his head. This is starting to remind me of yet another first-time HC in over his head. Robert Saleh, Jerod Mayo, Matt Eberflus... the thing is, I can't really think of a story where the coach gets better in Year 2. Even somebody like Dan Campbell - at least in year 1, the team appeared professional and played hard (they just weren't very good).

Patsies figured it out quick and fired Mayo in only one year. Otherwise usually it takes three years to figure this out. I hope we do the former.

    So, I have a question...

If you few here know so much about this shit, why aren't you on NFL sidelines? What I see are the same/similar players doing the same dumbass stuff they did last year. Difference is, that was after, what 5/6 years of supposed coaching from Saleh and company vs. Glenn and co. 5 games in. So, we have nearly the SAME players doing the same dumbass stuff and you people were expecting a different outcome!?!

Define insanity: Doing the same shit, with the same people, over and over again expecting different results. Again, I really don't think they all go into practice/meetings and Glenn sits there and blows sunshine up their asses for doing dumb shit every game. The guy can't go play for them. He can't catch the ball in the endzone and not run it out. He can't keep them from whacking some cat 3 yds. out of bounds. He can tell them, yell at them, coach them etc. If they don't listen what do you do? You can't bench everyone of them. You can't fine every one of them. You can't cut everyone of them. This team has been building to this point for almost 10 years. W. Johnson has been guiding this ship and it is what it is.

Frankly, the mere fact that Glenn hasn't been committed to the "funny farm" already is a minor miracle all unto itself. Now, if we are having this conversation 2 years down the road, you fire the fucking guy with an exclamation point. However, 5 games in, I don't know exactly what you expected.

It’s an overall mentality when it comes to minding the details, playing to the whistle, knowing the rules and strategies. One person’s nitpicking is another’s minding the details. What Chris Jones is getting killed for this week in KC, we have multiple players standing around like that. Most of the team is playing like that. It’s disgusting watching Breece Hall break free for a run that would’ve been a TD except Ruckert just decided to stop blocking anyone and stand there when he was 1x1 against the last guy that could gave (and did) tackle Hall and limited it to 22 yards. Players and coaches cheering and hooting and hollering over 22 yards, including Ruckert. Bad players are bad players, I get it. One or 2 lazy guys, sure I get that too. An entire team playing up to their assignment but not to the whistle? Yeah, that’s the atmosphere the coach sets.

Frankly, I don't know anything about coaching football, but I see the results of Glenn's CS and it stinks.

What kind of bullshit is this? We’re fans talking our favorite teams on a message board and you’re trying to discredit every opinion (which would include your own mind you) by saying YOUR OPINION SUCKS OR ELSE YOU’D BE A NFL COACH.

    What the fuck?

Gotta say…kind of a bad take here…if we’re not NFL coaches we don’t know anything, or can’t call out obvious shit when we see it? Or how about this…if you go back and compare our actual drafts to the opinions and draft suggestions called out in these boards, I’d say that more often than not this boards opinions turned out better than what the Jets actually did…which is a fucking sad state of affairs.

I think we are seeing several signs of bad coaching…for whatever reason…bad players, tuning out the HC, whatever…but the point is that even bad players can be coached to not do stupid shit.

5 games in, I expected a team that hustles and plays hard and doesn’t stand around. I would also expect some improvement somewhere…I get you can’t fix 30 problems in 5 games, but hey, fix ONE. We haven’t. We continue to see the same stupid shit week after week. Our return game sucks…they tried two different returners and both fumbled. They catch the ball on our own 2 yard line. They run balls out of the end zone. It’s dumb shit like that that points to the coaching message not getting through. We continue to fumble at an alarming rate … how are we not running drills to protect the ball? We continue to have sloppy tackling…when do we ever see our guys punch the ball out? And on the few occasions that the other team fumbles, how is it that we haven’t managed to recover even one??? It’s because our D is not hustling to the ball in bunches…so there is no one ever there to recover the fumble.

Stuff like this comes from coaching and motivation and leadership…so either AG and his staff don’t know what or how to coach this stuff, or the players have already tuned out the message, and it’s only week 5. That’s fucking unacceptable but either way it’s a reflection on the coaching.

Is there a chance AG and his staff can improve? Sure I guess so. I’m not saying fire him after 5 games, but I also believe that GREAT doesn’t take a long time to show up (neither does SUCK). I don’t want to waste 3 fucking years trying to figure it out. I think if the team shows improvement down the stretch, and depending on how we end, maybe AG earns year 2. But if we are still seeing the same shit in week 15 that we do now, then I don’t need to see another fucking season of terrible coaching to know he’s not the guy.

Firstly, I'm not talking about anyone sucking (least of all you as I HIGHLY respect your opinion, same goes for @Jets79) nor am I shitting on anyone's said opinion but, 5 games in, personally, I would be "talking about" our favorite team in the sense of how do we rebuild this shit stain turd of a roster. NOT burning our brand new coach to the ground because "we THINK" we know what coaching is all about in the NFL. These are damn men. Not children. I get it, no one wants to go 0'fer anything but c'mon, does anyone on this board "really" think there's some magic coaching philosophy that teaches players to not whack a guy 3 yds. out of bounds or how to stand still until the flippin' ball is snapped? No, these guys have been taught that shit since Pop Warner in most cases. If you want to bash scheme this early on, have at it. But, 5 games in, with essentially the same roster doing the same dumb ass shit and it looks the same as last year...we have turd players. As much as we want it to happen in one go around, this is going to take YEARS to fix. And, it starts with the 1st pick in the 2026 draft with a QB. No QB and I don't care if you have Jerry Rice on one side, Christian McCaffrey in the backfield and Tory Holt on the other side with the 90's Cowboys o-line...you aren't winning a lot. And this team, in all likelihood, will never look the one I just described. I was just venting my man...

    Look, my POINT is thus:

How do "We" know it's bad coaching? I'll say this again, I really don't see Glenn walking into 1 Jets Drive, on a Tuesday, and blowing sunshine...anywhere. In fact, I'd be willing to bet "going into work" is a bitch right now in that building. THAT is what I EXPECT. We ALL talk like there is some magic sauce (no pun intended) that is simply going to snap it's fingers and these LONG RUNNING PROBLEMS are simply going to go away. Personally, it's irritating reading/listening to a bunch of people write/talk like it's just all supposed to be different because they say so seeing as we have a different HC. Or, in this case because the HC isn't qualified? I mean, seriously, ask yourself, "Is Aaron Glenn going into that building, every Tuesday, and acting like they didn't just get their asses stomped up and down a field for 4 straight hours? Now, IF he were doing that, then I'd be inclined to agree with you, we have the wrong man for the job. However, 5 whopping games in, MOST of the people on this board act like Glenn is putting the bow on a 5 year run, hasn't improved a damn thing and shouldn't be on a NFL field. The only question I had was, "now where does that knowledge come from for us to be implying something like that?" That is all. Not calling anyone out, not calling anyone stupid, not saying we shouldn't bitch and moan, although even by my standards, this is way too much bitching and moaning for 5 meager games in when it comes to the HC. The players, especially the ones who have been here 3 or 4 years. Oh yeah, they deserve every ounce of vitriol we can muster. Now, if Glenn and Moog do not DO something about this through the year and on into next, then we have an axe to grind. Some of this shit has to be LIVED for it to be corrected.

You, I and the rest of us can sit here and speculate all day long but our reality isn't theirs. We have lived this ugly shit for going on 2 decades now, these coaches have not. They're just getting here. Hell, they are just getting enough game film on some of these people to make decisions. Is all I'm saying.

I forgot one thing, for those people saying Glenn should be one and done, I WILL call you out and ask, exactly WHAT pool of vast knowledge and/or experience are "you" pulling that nugget of information from? Maybe I should have been more clear in my earlier rant. When I see people make statements like that I'm, LITERALLY, asking myself, "wow, where does that informed opinion come from?" Followed up by, "if "you" are so fantastically brilliant and intelligent about football, that you can call out a man that he shouldn't have a job at the end of the year, I would prefer they submit a resume and get their asses in there and fix it all!" I say that because, clearly, they have football information that none of us seem to possess.

Not sure what your point is honestly…I think we can say it’s bad coaching because we watch the games and can see the results. We see the same mistakes and the same outcome over and over and it’s not changing for the better. It’s not an exact science, but you can usually tell a well-coached team from a poorly-coached team. It shows in many of the details. How they play. Do they play hard? Do they play smart? So far, our team does neither. Our team keeps making the same mistakes.

Sure hard to know where exactly the problem is between talent and coaching…and honestly it’s almost always both, to various degrees. I know it’s hypothetical and we’ll never know, but if we had say a Parcells here do you think we are 0-5 and playing this sloppy? I sure don’t….not that we’d be 5-0, but we wouldn’t be winless. Can I prove that? No clearly I can’t.

But in the end, you can overanalyze and look at all-22 tape on every single play and come to some view, but you can also just use the so-called eye test and watch the games and get a decent opinion on the whole thing. This is a bad bad team. We are setting records for incompetence…first 0-5 team with zero takeaways since like 1950 or something like that…we are the only winless team, we are the only team with no takeaways, shit like that. We aren’t just bad. We are setting records for how bad we are.

That is due to many things…bad players, bad coaches, whatever. Probably all of it.

But to me, I’m looking for improvement. Sure, Dan Campbell and the Lions started 0-9 (as AG has mentioned more than once) and they turned it around…so sure I’m hoping AG can do it too. But so far, we are not seeing any progress. None at all. And I doubt the Denver game shows much better. He made some decisions that were sketchy to begin with, most notably bringing in Fields, so that’s on him. The other one that looks REALLY bad is Wilks…again that’s on him and he’s doubled down on that in every press conference…he has complete faith in him he tells us. Whether that’s an honest answer or not who knows, but so far that has been a bad decision as well.

So to me, I’m not saying fire him now…but I will say I have no problem moving on this offseason IF the team continues to play as poorly as we’ve been playing. I don’t think GREAT or SUCK take too long to show up. Not sure which it will be for AG but so far the needle is leaning more towards SUCK.

If it were my call, I’d make that decision after the season and I’d base it heavily on the trend of the team…are we playing better? Have we tackled some issues and fixed them? And if the answer is no to both of those questions, I’m fine moving on…he wouldn’t be the first one and done coach, and I don’t buy into the continuity for the sake of continuity approach…you can keep a sucky coach for 2 years or 6 years if he sucks he sucks. I think AG has to show at least SOME sign of progress this year to earn the 2nd year.

I'll bet if the entire five games of all radio, television and social media in the omniverse of play by play and commentary was dumped into the hopper of an AI machine not once would any form of the words "swarming defense" trickle out the chute at the bottom unless it was a reference to something missing regarding the New York Jets.

The only reason running back kicks is an issue is because the Jets have a weak offense. Did it matter where Tom Brady or Peyton Manning started their drives? Look what happened after the Allen fumble. Bucs drove 99 yards for a TD. Fix the offense and it won't matter where the kick returners end up.

That's ridiculous, of course it matters how many yards you have to drive to score a TD - the fewer the better. You get the shorter field and remove possibility of fumble during kick off, which we already did multiple times. As @FloridaMan and @REVISion in the other thread noted, an absolute no brainer. But it's this exact kind of logic that makes the Jets the dumbest team in the NFL and as a result the worst team in the NFL so far.
