Yeah, tell me about it. Good thing the Jets have today off. Nothing like the feeling of getting spitroasted at a skinhead pool party.

Oh, and I'm officially off the Gunner Stockton bandwagon that I was never on. He isn't why they lost that game, but he's a pretty big contributor for why they didnt win. That, and a bunch of 5-star DBs who looked like a bunch of 3-star DBs.

    Better than a Gators-Jets-Mets trifecta

That dropped TD pass was pretty big by whoever that was down the seam for 40+ yards. Is Georgia allowed to recruit receivers or no?

Yep. Never a strong part of their recruiting. Not all that surprising when you bill your program as RB U. The pathetic part, though, the butterfingers on that drop was Talyn Taylor - the #4 WR recruit in 2024, and the highest UGA WR recruit since George Pickens.

New transfer window rules. Instead of two separate transfer portal windows, there’s one two-week window in January.
    • Early signing period: Dec. 3-5
    • Conference championships: Dec. 5-6
    • Bowl games begin: Dec. 13
    • CFP first-round games: Dec. 19-20
    • CFP quarterfinals: Dec. 31-Jan. 1
    • Transfer portal opens: Jan. 2
    • CFP semifinals: Jan. 8-9
    • Transfer portal closes: Jan. 16
    • CFP national championship: Jan. 19

Somebody explain to me why the portal opening does not follow the Championship game please. What's the urgency to get it on while there are still a few games to be played?

From a casual observer, it looks like they are trying to compensate for players with draft eligibility taking the bowl games off by allowing teams to pick up early replacements.

Probably different reasons, but that appears to be the immediate benefit to me.

I guess that's possible but it would just point to the further bastardization of the concept that you play a bowl game with the team that got you there. Without a 53 man roster limit I can't agree with that if it actually is the mindset.

That had to be part of it. The word they give is that consolidating the December and April portals into one post-season portal was meant to address five months of "roster instability" that starts while some teams are still playing. The cynic in me thinks the SEC, Big10 and bowl sponsors were driving this. The SEC and Big10, so playoff teams have control of their full roster and aren't getting looted during playoff prep. But I also have to think that some of the bowl sponsors were probably starting to complain that ratings for the CFP were great; the 600 other horsehit bowl games - not so much. If Kelloggs is going to go through all the trouble of building a gigantic toaster so the winning team can cook and eat the Pop Tarts mascot, they probably want people seeing it.

I can't disagree, but this is where my cynical thought on bowl sponsors kicks in. When half the undefeated FSU roster sits out of the Capital One Orange Bowl and their JV squad gets curb-stomped by 60-points, the people overpaying for a shifty product couldn't have been happy.

Yeah they’re trying to help bowl season along with stabilizing rosters so there’s not so much movement. There used to be a spring window that created even more chaos.

they killed the bowl games when they created, and then extended, the playoff. portal or not, you arent going to get players to care about a non-playoff bowl

    -

the only thing I can think of that might help is a fat bonus check for winning the game. but how are you going to do that with 90 players on the winning team in the root beer bowl on a tuesday night.

They killed them waaaay before that. Adding a "Bowl" game for every team that doesnt totally suck watered them down years ago....

I miss the "Its New Years, I'm gonna drink away my hangover and watch football and cook food all day"....

LaVar Arrington on James Franklin’s sacking:

"Coach Franklin took on a daunting task when he became PSU's head guy," Arrington said on Instagram. "He did a job that most wouldn't try or could do! I will be forever grateful for your service to our team and our program. I know your heart and I know you wanted the best for our team and our community. I wish you and your family well Coach.

“Life happens and sometimes we have hard things to endure," Arrington continued. "Not everyone makes a difference along the way. You did and I'm grateful that We had you to guide us when times weren't so good. From getting through one of the biggest scandals in college sports history to 1 play away from being in the national championship a year ago. You did well coach. Will always be here for you and always respect and love my guy!!! We Are!!!! We Are Better because of you!!"

He was two-faced when Bill O’Brien left for the Texans. Grateful, well-wishing on the record, and then pissy, back-biting comments attributed to him behind the scenes. I’d like to know what he was chirping to all the boosters after Saturday’s game.

There has to be a reason to fire coaches in-season vs. after the season because it feels like it’s happening a lot more frequently now.

Mike Gundy, Pittman, Franklin. Those are huuuuge in-season moves.

Do they get that big of a jump on lining up the future coach and recruiting? Does it help them in the transfer portal?

I guess with all the transfer portal activity and the single window in January you need your coach in place after the regular season to start lining up strategy and budgets.

Yeah, I suppose that’s the thinking. But with Franklin, it feels more like exasperation. Boosters who bought into this year’s hype as preseason #2 and couldn’t process losing to UCLA and Northwestern. I can almost understand that more than OSU and Arkansas, who shouldn’t have the same expectations. Although, Sam Pittman was a dead man walking the day Bobby Petrino was hired. Just a question of when.
