This is a poll. If you owned the Jets and you could only sign one of those, which one would you chose?

Think of Bill Parcells as HoF Coach and think of Peyton Manning as HoF QB.

    NO YOU CAN'T HAVE BOTH!

Note: Reason I started this thread is last nights game between Patriots and Bills. Pats now have an average to above average coach and they just beat the class of AFC East. I wonder how things would progress if we had even a slightly above average HC. Would we still be 0-5 even with Fields?

I picked HC because its a 53man effort, not just one guy. The HoF HC can assemble a stellar staff which is the most stable path to consistent winning as opposed to the HoF QB that needs an above average surrounding cast to be successful.

    QB.

Time has shown that Brady was a bigger reason for the Pats' dynasty than Belichick. Good QBs also function as pseudo-offensive coordinators.

Every time the Qb for me. Great to have both, Reid/Mahomes, but if I can only 1, give me the QB...

The QB will probably eventually make the coach a HOFer.

Belichick still had a lot to do with winning all those SB’s but yeah it seems Brady really drove the entire franchise to greatness.

Good point, I went with Coach, for the same reason CMan said, but you're correct a HOF QB will make a great coach, and a great OC

I would say Hc. A good Hc can get everyone to play for him. A good Hc also has the ability to pick a good qb.

I voted Hall of Fame QB, but I want to add a caveat to that. Average Coach + HOF QB > HOF Coach + Average QB. But Adam Gase + young future HOF QB is worse than young future HOF Coach + Zach Wilson because the young future HOF coach can bench Zach Wilson, whereas Adam Gase will ruin the young future HOF QB.

I think that was just Brady. Virtually no other HoF QB I've ever seen had that ability. Maybe Peyton Manning.

OTOH, almost every HoF coach had credible, competitive teams most of the years they played, regardless of their QB situation. They were able to build tough, disciplined teams and play entertaining football.

Plus, don't forget that we have recently had not one but two HoF QBs on our roster. How'd that work out for us? :)

A HoF coach is a magnet for HoF caliber QB’s.

QB, and while the QB alone may not yield a SB, HoF caliber QB gets you more tickets to win the pot luck.

Many HOF QBs have failed here. Just saying.

If you have an average coach and HOF quarterback, that's better than a HOF coach and average quarterback. But you have to be careful if the quarterback is young and the coach is very bad because the coach could ruin the quarterback.

No, the Jets had a couple of has beens who earned a spot in the Hall of Fame long before they got here. Nothing they did as Jets would warrant a second glance from Canton.

You're missing the 53 man picture and talking about settling for mediocrity. I'll take the HOF coach every season with a backup cast of future Hall coaches and the proven ability to inspire his team to success. Give me a real good QB who is consistently error free and a few guys at other positions who are destined to Canton and that's a recipe for long term success.

Regarding the OP.. before the coach and the QB, you need an owner that's not the league cuck.

In the modern NFL, the Hall of Fame QB is more important. Peyton Manning won MVPs and Super Bowls with bad head coaches.

You could make a case the coach is more important. Look at the Bills for example. Allen's career will probably end up in Canton. Yet his career is going the same way as Marino. Great player but still can't get to the Super Bowl. At least Marino played in one. McDermott (IMHO) is overrated. He is supposed to be a defensive genius, yet the Bills defense isn't that good. Truth is it's kind of bad. He has been there 9 years now so it's not like he hasn't had time. We see it every year in the playoffs how their defense lets them down. Remember 13 seconds. How do you not protect a lead with 13 seconds left in the game and the Chiefs starting at their own 25. Both McDermott and Beane would have been fired by now if Allen wasn't their QB.
