Per Google AI, "The likelihood of converting a 4th and 1 in the NFL is high, with historical data showing a success rate of around 66-72% over the past decade, depending on the specific timeframe and methodology." If we round to a success rate of 70%... The odds of failing 38 times in a row are approximately 1.35×10 to the -20th power. So 0.0000000000000000000135% of the time, a team will fail 38 straight times. I would say 6 straight failures is believable. 10 straight failures? That's pushing it. 38 straight failures, even for the Jets, is one of the most shocking pieces of sports data I can ever remember seeing. I would expect to start seeing memes at about the 8-10 straight failures mark.
fake news. "The idea that the New York Jets have failed 38 straight times on 4th and 1 is a viral social media rumor and not a factual statistic. No reputable NFL statistics database supports this claim, and the Jets have successfully converted 4th and 1 plays in recent years." -- per google.
Maybe and probably right. But we need more reasons to be mad so stop pissing on my birthday cake. Sheesh.
I'm almost positive I remember Testaverde leaning forward to convert that 4th and 1 against the Dolphins...... How long ago was that?
The moment I became an adult and learned the Jets were cursed: Jets were driving down he field vs the Browns many years ago and Chris Baker caught a catch and was carried out of bounds before he landed. No catch and the game ended without tv replay. Just game over. The most immediate cup of bull shit. Nfl changed the rule the next year that a defender can't carry you out of bounds if you catch it in play. Ever since then it's just been the curse showing up in different ways.
I don't think the stat is real. The OP posted a picture under his original post saying that the post contains misinformation. Pretty sure the Jets converted one last year.
Thi stat is total BS but speaking of the curse, my daughter is 11 years old. About halftime of our game against BUF I blurted out “this team is cursed”, and she walks in the room and says “doesn’t some old guy need to die before you guys can win again?” I never told her that, but she ain’t wrong.
