Trouble in paradise UNC cant score and Belichick caught on camera talking to his young bride on the sideline
Memphis takes the early inside track to the CFP with a “quality win” over Arkansas. Heh. Poor Sam Pittman. Tough way to lose. Plus, Bobby Petrino is no doubt mobilizing his Fire Pittman! whisper campaign.
I feel like this forum needs a separate thread to put on record the teams/coaches/players you love to hate. I only point this out because Auburn and Hugh Freeze combine for a two-fer. I only wish Jackson Arnold would do more to make me want to hate him. With Arnold and DJ Durkin, that might be as close to a four-fer as I’ll ever get. .
Horrible start in a yoooge game for DJ, Billy Napier and Gators. Offense goes Three-and-out to start, defense gets out-muscled to go down seven. One of you UF fans can weigh in, but I’m thinking that unless they snap out of it and either pull off a win or lose with heart, we won’t be seeing Napier after the bye.
USF vs. Memphis looks like the G5 winner of the automatic bid. I think Pittman is a good “football” coach. I put it in quotations because I think he can coach football. I’m not sure he’s good at recruiting or football politics or all the other bullshit required of college coaches these days.
Gotta fire Napier. Good dude. Not cutting it at this level though. Lance Leipold is a dream but I doubt he can be lured away.
I heard where Bud Elliot said DJ has people around him trying to convince him to take a redshirt year. That only adds to the intrigue. If this game keeps going like it’s going, heading into the Murderers’ Row part of the schedule with an interim coach and true-freshman at QB? Yeesh.
Pittman at UGA was a fantastic OL recruiter. He pulled some serious OL rabbits out of hats. I agree, he doesn’t seem like a cut-throat recruiter. But Arkansas is also sort of an oddball program. It’s why I like to root for them. Kind of an underdog thing. They left the Southwest Conference because they were tired of being treated like Fredo by all the Texas teams they were beating, then went to the SEC and got pretty much the same treatment from teams they weren’t beating. Great fans, though. They should be a top-15 recruiting class.
UF getting out of this half down 13 is survival. If they can somehow muster three points, that’s a win.
This Missouri running back Ahmad Hardy is incredible. We need him in the draft. Hes short and stocky, refuses to be tackled. Reminds me of Maurice Jones-Drew
Kinda thinking Gus Malzahn is gonna be somewhere in the UF mix. Might be interesting to see Curt Cignetti coaching in a talent-rich state. Some of the things he says just seem like he thinks bigger than Indiana, Cignetti-Indiana almost has a Meyer-Utah feel to it. Plus, he has a few years at Saban U. on his resume. If you’re going into the SEC cold, UF is probably the school for it.
I was thinking Cignetti but I doubt he leaves for Florida. It’s a lateral move at this point given what he’s built at Indiana and how down Florida is. Malzahn would be garbage IMO. He caught lightning in a bottle 15 years ago. I don’t think he’s a very good coach or recruiter.
You guys are missing the big fish. Urban Meyer out of retirement and back to Florida, much to the chagrin of Gainesville PD
I’m with you on Malzahn. On Cignetti - I could be wildly wrong, but every time I hear that guy talk I hear Urban Meyer. Same brand of arrogance. On the field, he brought Indiana into the Big10 top tier. High school recruiting-wise, he’s competing in the same tier as MSU, Minn, Illinois and Rutgers. I picture him going home after recruiting trips and complaining to his wife, “Don’t these fucking kids understand that I’m Curt Cignetti?!!” 100,000 seats in Ann Arbor vs. 50,000 in Bloomington, for one thing. He does well in the transfer market, though. Tougher to live that way every year but he’s proving it’s possible. No idea why I’m arguing the merits of something I’d really rather not see.
Well, it’s Urban Meyer - same guy who punked a bazillion ND fans, so anything is possible. Plus, he’ll no doubt let the rumors keep festering, even if he has zero plans to coach again. Because he’s Urban Meyer.
Wild start to a great college football weekend. UVA somehow knocks off FSU in double OT. I was sure Chandler Morris would eventually blow it and FSU would pull it out.
A good slate of match-ups, but nothing so far has been all that exciting. Flipping between a bunch and Tenn- MSU seems to be grabbing my interest the most. I wouldn't mind adding Indiana-Iowato the mix, but then I have to deal with that Peacock nonsense. Side note - Ole Miss and MSU both playing at home. I could have sworn they didn't do that. Or maybe I just invented it.
