I think if the D plays the way they did last week again this week, the heat will be on Wilks and AG as itshould be. This is their players and scheme and its not viable as presently executed.
This is an un-Jet-fan take, but honestly I'm not that worried. Rodgers was always going to be hyped up like all get out for that game. And the Bills are a wagon offense the way Cook and Allen are playing. It's early in the year. At a minimum I think this defense will be middle of the pack. We'll hold mediocre offenses down and have a chance to win against middling teams. This team is too talented to really be bottom of the barrel. And we have to see what AG can do.
I agree. But the only caveat I’ll put in here is that we need our good players to make impact plays on both sides of the ball. Sauce, Q, Breece, the offensive tackles, Quincy & Sherwood with his brand new contract, Garrett Wilson (I get it’s largely dependent on a QB throwing his way) all need to perform up to their abilities each week.
Yes, they can improve, but we Jet fans have football-PTSD and losses like this past one trigger very bad football memories. We'll see what happens.
It may not seem like it when I get on rants etc. but this is essentially where I am with the entire regime. For those calling for AG and Moog to be fired, 2 games in, well we ALL know that's just frustration talking. We KNOW it's going to take more than 2 games, hell, more than a season but frustration has set in and the ONLY cure for that is winning. We're going to have threads like this and lots of venting because it's just been too long. Johnson has really shit the bed with this franchise. He knows it, we know it and he knows we know it. He has painted himself into a corner and, if AG and Moog DO fail, the fans will be calling for his head. Time will tell. However, even though it doesn't seem like it, I am still hopeful. I'm HOPING AG can channel his stellar playing days and the instant respect he garners as a former player now HC to mold these kids into something that they and we can be proud of. For AG, this year, I'm watching how he learns how to be a HC and the decisions he makes in guiding the team. Sunday is going to be very interesting.
The main thing wrong w the jets defense is that they have 3-4 personnel and they are playing a 4-3. Under a 4-3 defense you need big DE and big LBs. The jets are small. Sherwood is too small to play MLB. McDonald is way too small to stop the run at DE. BOTH of those players would be better in a 3-4 playing LB. McDonald as OLB and Sherwood as one of TWO ILB. Never heard of a team changing base defense during the season, but why the hell not? What DO the jets have to lose changing right now? Put 3 big DL in front of 4 small LBs and the jets would be better. Bench Stephens at CB in favor of anybody, and always play Moore at S over Adams. I think the jets would be a lot better. If the jets don't do it this year, they sure better in 2026.
What's wrong with this defense? Lets start with the lack of talent. Yep, LACK of talent. Sauce Gardner is overrated. So is the entire LB unit. The DL has QW and WMD on occasion but for the most part? nothing of note. Finally, lets take a look at the CS. Wilks is not up for this job. His schemes suck. Somehow the Jet D came up big in the 4th but folded when it mattered. Glenn will at some point have to take over playcall duties.
It annoyed me today when the announcers said several times the defense was playing well. Sauce is over-rated and always seems to get a pass interference call on deep ball, just like the 3rd and 19 today. I honestly don't know what to think of this defense right now but through 3 games they are a bottom 5 defense
I think this is the problem with Jets fans, over estimating the Jets talent. The Jets are easily bottom 10 in the league, and likely worse, in talent. Sauce Gardner and Garrett Wilson are the only true talent the Jets have. That and they have a couple young promising OL. Q, way overrated and there really isn't much else on this team.
the problem is a lack of talent - how many Jets players would start on a playoff calibre team? For me it would be maybe one player on offense and two on defense.
If the New York Jets were the only team you watched, there is a high probability that you would believe it is against the rules to take the ball away from the offense.
Can it be possible that Sauce Gardner is overrated? He is a good player, don't get me wrong, but does he really play like a "Perennial All-Pro"? (Thank you Jonathan Vilma)
Well he is a perennial All-Pro. He’s made the first team 2/3 years. But yeah he’s definitely been lackluster his last 18 games.
