Down to 1/2 game - today could be the last day in playoff position (the Dodgers-Giants game should be over by midnight New York time).
McLean with a 1.19 ERA for the first six outings of his major league career. Shame that the chances are very good that he'll be getting a no decision today. (Yes, I expect the bullpen to give up at least two runs in these three innings.)
Hahahahaha. Only took six batters to happen! What a pathetic team this is. And of course it wouldn't occur to Mendoza to keep McLean in for the 7th when he KNOWS that the bullpen is a joke. He should be canned the day after the end of the season, but I doubt it will happen. And if he pulled McLean because Stearns has ordered him to baby the rookies, then Stearns should be fired too (in addition, of course, for the absolutely terrible job he's done this year).
Arizona 1.5 back, Cincinnati and SF 2 back. Mets only have the tiebreaker against the Giants, by the way, so it's effectively 1, 1.5, and 2.5, respectively.
Clay "I can't pitch into the 5th inning Holmes" goes tonight. SO, that means they need 4+ innings out of the BP.
Manaea with his first decent outing since July, but it should be obvious that the Holmes experiment should be over. Arizona beats SF again, and Cincinnati loses, so the Mets are 1.5 up on the Diamondbacks, and 3 up on the Giants and Reds.
And yet another awful outing for Peterson (ERA over 5 since the middle of June) - he is totally incapable of getting a big out when he needs it. Mets are fortunate that SF beat Arizona today, but it looks like it will be 1.5, 2, and 2 game leads (AZ, SF, Cin) at the end of the day.
