Yeah, it's surprising it was that long ago. Time flies when you're...old.

I agree but casually accusing journalists of reporting the incorrect news is not acceptable

    Shall I do it formally?

The "who" in a news story is a basic tenet of journalism; or at least it always was. Rumors were reported as rumors, news was reported as news. I like it that way.

Way to go AG. As a leader of this team you have already demonstrated to me that you are an order of magnitude better than our predecessors over the last 15 years. Keep it up. Discipline and accountability rule.

This is a good sign from Glenn as Saleh would of given Gipson even more playing time, Bill Parcells Glenn's supposed mentor used to hate guys who fumbled the ball. Hopefully he learns alot from Bill Parcell's.

Aaron Glenn confirms the journalist reports that Gipson has been cut. He says it’s not a rash decision and not based off any one incident

the Jets are bringing in returner Isaiah Williams (time with Detroit & Cincy) and he will battle it out with what we have in-house

I'm personally baffled that a report on a release that has followed the same process as every report on a release in sports for the last 10 years ended up being accurate.

Moves like this (and many other Jets moves unfortunately) is why I can never really accept the "well they see the guys in practice and we don't" argument every time the team makes a decision that doesn't make sense. Sometimes teams do stupid things, the Jets do it a lot, just because we aren't coaches or players doesn't mean we can't be right when we say it.

By all accounts Gipson was having a good camp, was catching 100+ balls from the jugs machine without a drop, blah blah blah. And at the end of the day he was the same turd most fans knew him to be.

So for sure we are not (most of us, anyway!) professional coaches or scouts. However, many on this board are super knowledgeable and we follow the team closely. And many of us eat, breathe, and live this team…

I have a lot of faith in the consensus knowledge on this board, and man, if we had drafted according to this board, I KNOW we’d have done so much better in so many cases. We also would have done so much better if Woody had used this board in making some of his GM and HC decisions…I know this…we would have NEVER hired Idzik or Mac on this board…two of THE worst GMs in the NFL. We would have NEVER hired Gase for sure. NO ONE thought that was a good idea except Woody.

So, yeah, teams do make stupid decisions a lot, and even though we are not there in practice, nor are we professionals, I think this board does see a lot and does understand a lot, and we do make better decisions than the guys actually being paid to make those decisions do more often than we should…

to me is simple and pretty cut and dry. Yes the made a decision based on practice. But when the lights went on not only did he faulter but he made some horrible rookie mistakes on both punts. So he was let go. Unlike prior regimes that would have continued to self inflict the torment for the whole year. No one is perfect. But by God this leadership wastes no time correcting mistakes.

Agreed on Gipson, but I won't be 100% fully bought into the notion that this regime works swiftly until the Stephens situation is handled. Hopefully it's not an issue but he's been bad his whole career, I assume he's going to stay bad. Will they eat shit on the massive contract they gave him? That will be the telltale sign.

Yeah I’m interested to see what happens there…he was clearly an issue in week 1.

It’s unrealistic to cut a big free agent signing after one game…that would be rash and overreacting. But they do need to get into whatever groove works and figure out how to get better overall secondary play from not only him but the whole group. Our safeties didn’t play well either.

If you’re going to play zone, you have to come up and tackle and we whiffed on a bunch of tackles on top of being way too soft.

I’ve always hated playing zones against really good smart QBs…guys like Brady, Rodgers, Manning…they eat that shit up. They’ve seen it all and they are very accurate and will just keep taking chunks. I get playing zone against guys who can run like Allen or Lamar, because otherwise they watch the corners run back with receivers and just take off running when the secondary is not looking into the backfield.

So we may still see plenty of zone against Buffalo this week.

But if it’s shading more safety help his way, or mixing in more play from Stiggers or someone else I don’t know, but we are going to need a much better performance from our secondary…letting receivers run free against good QBs is just a disaster in the making

Well, well, well. Message sent! Let's hope it's received. ESPECIALLY by the guys that can't seem to get out of a game without committing some dumb ass penalty. Bill Parcell...er...I mean Aaron Glenn, handled this the way it SHOULD be handled! Gipson HAD to be on thin ice and that thin layer broke today. LOVE the accountability and the message it sends. Playing for ANY NFL team is a privilege and should be viewed as such. Stupidity and ongoing mental errors will not be tolerated. Love the move.

Oh yea I agree that calls to cut the guy are absurd and I dont think they will cut him at all this season. But you can hold the guy accountable without cutting him. Like you said... give safety help, maybe it's just more practicing and fine-tuning a zone (which I hate but can work). But if those things don't work and he's still struggling come mid October, that's when we'll see how much Glenn is holding his guys accountable. This was a great step 1 though.

Of course since this is the Jets Gipson will sign with New England and make a big play to beat us this year;). Seriously though, if you’re going to change culture you’ve got to start somewhere. Let’s see if the message is effective

I meant to say both punt and kick off returns but if you recall on his longest return he fell on the ground and fumbled the ball without being touched, luckily a Jet player recovered with a heads up play. It would have been Steelers ball. Of course the fumble by carrying the ball in the wronng hand was devasteting.

I'm not sure he fumbled it, he actually looked like he spotted the ball as if he thought he'd been touched.

Akin to that rookie dropping the ball before the goal line last season in utter stupidity
