If he's actually gone he will leave in his third consecutive year of leading the NFL in punt and kick returns. Of course that has more to do with the Jets defense than anything he did, other than show up. In fact, of the dozen return categories on PFR, he has never been out of the top ten in any of them.
Have you never seen a reporter attribute such an announcement to the team, a coach, a player or a front office person? Ever heard the expression "who, what, why, where, when and how?" Those are the foundation of reporting.
This seems like overthinking. I’d say 75% of news is broken without a player, coach, front office, team, etc. Reporter breaks news from source Other reporters check with sources to confirm Team ends up announcing Rinse and repeat for almost any transaction ever.
Reporters do not "break news," they report news. "Source" is not a source - a source has a name. These guys would rather be first with the news, even if it's wrong. I have had ESPN on for an hour or so and they have not mentioned it on air even though the crawl on the bottom of the screen has posted it as "Report:.." It's kind of like the reports that say politicians and celebrities have died. Do you remember how many times Generalissimo Francisco Franco "died"?
Well. I suppose this is what regime change looks like. It sure has sent a message. I liked much of what I saw last week, even though we lost, it could be that AG is the man, finally.
probably not because you are talking about a gag from 50 years ago Gipson is being released by the way so the news isn’t wrong. Not sure what you are blabbering about
Organizations often give transactional news out to their local reporters first. It is a sign of respect for one another. The “source” is the New York Jets front office
I couldn't imagine thinking this hard about a football transaction being reported the way football transactions have been reported for like a decade now. To each their own though.
It doesn't matter at all to me what you're not sure about. I prefer to celebrate when things become official or at least make it very clear that no one of authority has made such an announcement. We had guys here celebrating the departure of Rodgers based on the same kind of "sources" two months before it happened. By the way, the death of Franco became a gag only because it was erroneously reported multiple times in the final weeks of his life.
