probably has something to do with the $3 million they can save and actually JD made him the highest paid punter so it’s very different from that
In fairness it is a lot of money for a punter but fuck, Morstead earned it for the amount of use he got in 23
That was 4 years ago though. The guy is 39 now. I don't think the lesson here is no sign ancient guys for 3 times the replacement salary until they are completely broken down. In fact we learned the opposite with Duane Brown, Greg, Tyron Smith, etc... Morstead is 39 and is finished. Good call to move on from him and Greg.
I guess that depends on who the battle was between. I noticed Mann punting for the Eagles v us, that at one point, would have been quite insane as well
After writing what I wrote about Morestead, I remembered a time where we cut him on cut down day then brought him back. Wasn't that the case? If so, maybe its what SF is doing here.
Probably. But McNamara did quite well though in camp and preseason and is 15 years younger. Regardless of Tommy possibly coming back to 49ers I think it is clear we made a right choice.
WHEW! They needed that 1.5m SO BADLY! I don't know how the Jets would have ever recovered from that....
Everything counts, however small. But in this case we ended up with 1.5 mil, a better and younger punter by 15 years. What's not to like?
We'l see after the season is under way. Mann was meant to be a field-flipping beast, but failed here. Hopefully, the new guy will be ok, he'll certainly get a lot of practice
