The backup quarterback is always the best loved player on the team until they start to take the field regularly. Then, it quickly becomes obvious why they are a backup.
I've got to say, no truer words have been spoken or written. I actually belly laughed at this one it was so accurate!
Zack Rosenblatt @ZackBlatt Jets doing goal line 11 on 11 now. First play is a Justin Fields TD pass to Andrew Beck. Cut Ruckert Move Beck to TE Keep Edwards at RB
Justin Fields experience in a nutshell: Connor Hughes @Connor_J_Hughes Justin Fields is 8 of 11 passing with a TD. Incompletions are a miss/bad throw to Garrett Wilson, Breece Hall drop & throwaway. The touchdown was on a goal line drill. Pass in flat to Beck. Efficient day. Connor Hughes @Connor_J_Hughes There’s 1:38 left in half. 24-21 score. #Jets & Justin Fields need to get in FG range or TD. - Sack (McDonald beat Olu) - False start - Timeout - Incomplete (close to sack by Clemons) - Short completion Mason Taylor - Punt That wasn’t great
Not sure where else to put this so I guess I'll put it here... Russini says we're monitoring the WR trade market. Around this time of year that usually means the Falcons WR5 is getting traded for a 7th round pick but there are some interesting names out there besides the obvious stars. Romeo Doubs - odd man out with Golden, Reed and Watson Rasheed Shahid - the salary situation in New Orleans is a mess, doubtful but maybe he shakes free Alec Pierce - last year of his rookie contract, Colts WR room is already young and talented DPJ - not sexy at all but he's the kinda guy a team would take a 7th for instead of cutting him Skyy Moore - Chiefs are stacked everywhere but especially WR. And the kick in the nuts... Brownlee has been playing well for them in camp.
The Patriots have a bunch of mid round draft pick receivers that haven’t exactly locked up a spot on the roster. Kendrick Bourne will probably get cut too.
Yea I thought about adding Bourne but I think he gets traded and they probably won't trade him to us.
Don't sleep on Stone Smartt. TEs are notorious late bloomers and with his 2 position changes, he may be a player on the rise.
Smartt can play. I think he'd be a fine TE2 and an upgrade over Ruckert. I also think the best move would be making Beck TE2. He can run block and catch.
Yeah, Beck looked good in the first preseason game but then didn’t get much run in the 2nd…I wonder if they are trying to kind of hide him? Listing him as a FB probably also helps reduce outside interest in him if they want to stash him on the practice squad…
Stupid random and sorta off topic, but I read an interesting fantasy note yesterday: The WR drafted by the Patriots with the most fantasy points in their career over the last 15 years was...... Braxton Berrios
He's rolling with starters, he's a lock to make the team. I want them to move him to TE because 1.) he's better than Ruckert and 2.) probably helps justify keeping Edwards at RB.
I think you mentioned it, or someone else, Beck can play FB and be TE3. IMO the best idea is to do that and then keep Edwards as a RB/WR
Beck rolling with the starters again. Fields missed him in the flat on the first play of team drills.
