To your point, the report from the times on the new thread here is absolutely a well balanced and fair assessment of what really happened today. Not the sky is falling message we read from a couple here, much to the contrary.
So basically the same as it’s been for the past 20 years? I just don’t get the whining and complaining already. Everyone knows Fields is probably not our future. Everybody knows he’s likely not going to improve much. Everyone knows his chance of being a bonafide starter for years to come is about 5% at best. Our other option was to keep Rodgers, ewww. This is a season to watch young guys grow, we’re not winning a SB. We weren’t a SB caliber team even when we were sold a lie that we were these last 2 seasons. Sit back and enjoy the team for what it is.
I was on my way to Newark Airport to take flight to Nashville to drop my son to college. We saw Jets entourage driving on Route 24 on their way to Giants facility. 4 busses and tons of police escort. Son is a Jets fan too and he loved driving next to Jets busses on our way to Newark airport. So cool Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk
damn, I’m at JFK hopping a flight to Nashville. If there was a game on I’d say let’s find a bar and get miserable.
Wowzer. When are you going back to NJ/NY? We are in town Wednesday night and Thursday night and I am heading back Friday 6:40 pm.
Arian Smith mossed a Giants defender for a long TD. His speed is very evident in person and if he can fix the hands problem and crisp up his routes… we have something. There was a play yesterday where the play brokedown, Smith completely disappeared and ended up wide open in the middle of the field.
Fell off a cliff why though? It looks like protection was shaky and is a big culprit. According to Dick Chimney Blatt: "All told, I had Fields completing 7 of 12 passes in 11-on-11 drills and 7 of 8 during seven-on-seven — including three straight passes to Garrett Wilson at one point." And had a TD too with no picks. Dick Chimney: https://x.com/RichCimini/status/1955298341241110607 "Practice is over. Focused on #Jets offense: Solid day for Fields. Cooled off after hot start as pass pro became spotty, but led a TD drive in a red-zone period. Mason Taylor back, a boost for the passing offense." Sounds like a decent day for Fields, albeit up and down, particularly when pass pro got worse. But solid overall. Certainly not a terrible day by consensus as you portrayed.
I never specified Fields until pointing out his bad missed TD throw to Hall. I said the offense was abysmal and it was. The completions were dink and dunk outside of a nice wheel route to Allen and one or two others. And today it’s more of the same. OL can’t block and Fields can’t throw. Missed Garrett two throws in a row in the last team period. It’s not really breaking news or alarming at this point. Fields isn’t good and we won’t be a good offensive team unless he makes some magic with his legs. It’s a training camp thread so I shared my experience at camp that was echoed by others that watched the same thing.
Sounds like if they pieced together the last two scrimmages into a real game it would be a disgusting performance. The Jets D looked good yesterday at least but today not so much. Offense very stinky. I would say in a real game it woulda been like 6-3 Giants at halftime and now they are up 20-3 in the 4th The starting Jets offense ran a 2-minute drill. some dink and dunks, 3 incompletions, a penalty and they didn't get a chance to even try a 4th down conversion cause the clock ran out
Jaxson Dart for the Giants looks pretty good btw, I was not a fan coming into the draft but I'll acknowledge I could very well be wrong there. He looked good in the 1st preseason game and today he's making plays again This WR Brandon Smith for our Jets, I didn't even know he was on the roster, but he's out there getting 1st team reps, he may make this team
I’d probably rather one of these unknown guys with some size and ability make the team than signing some hack of a veteran that’s available like Nelson Algholor. I’d like them to be like Smith with some size though. I’m kind of tired of the smurf army the Jets been trying to build for the last decade+ of unknown “nice story” receivers that make the team.
Brandon has been playing lights out at every chance. He has been probably one of the most pleasant surprises at WR so far. I believe he will make the cut and be a contributor this year.
thanks guys yeah I thought maybe a WR would step up in camp and make this team, I did not think it would be the guy who had 3 TDs in 2 seasons at the UFL level but happy for Smith for sticking with it and making plays
Well I’d say that it’s not “so soon”…this is who he has been since he was drafted 3 years ago And the issues that he’s shown in the past still look to be there, not surprisingly. I know we are all desperate for a QB, but he just hasn’t been the guy with the Bears or the Steelers and he’s likely not going to be much better here. Or put another way, if he DOES develop, then man I will say give a TON of credit to AG and our new OC. And for me anyway, I’m just so tired of the wasted seasons and rebuilds and stuff…I’m not 30 anymore…I’d love to see my team actually be a solid contender I hope AG can bring that, and there have been plenty of good signs there with the way he’s been running things, but in the end, becoming a solid contender will depend on having a great QB, and we are no closer to that today than we’ve been since what, the Pennington days? The O’Brien days? Even then I’m not saying those guys were GREAT, but they were very good and gave us a chance. Since then it’s been a shitshow.
I read somewhere that it was a calf issue but didnt’ seem serious…just being cautious in not practicing today
Mailk Nabers didn't practice either so Gardner probably figured he was safe to take a day off and let the other DBs handle the Giants JAGs
The Giants are not a great team by any means but their DL is legit I think…this game against them will be a good barometer to see how good our OL really is…they will be a tough DL to deal with for many teams I think…
