Jerry Jones is OLD and absolutely in a Win Now mode. And Jerry knows Dak can not carry a team, and NEEDS weapons to win (and to justify that enormous contract Jerry gave him). That being said, any 'Parsons to NY' trade rumors were most likely started by the Parson's camp to scare Jerry.
Just adding more context here. @GQMartin is as credible as it gets. He is my neighbor in town and super lovable guy and no surprise he knows people working in the building. Half of those guys live in the area anyway. I hope this happens GQ. I was at the practice today and really Allen outshined Breece. And Tyrod outshined Fields but that's another topic. Bring in Parsons and let's be a shut down defense with Wilkis at the helm. With Wilson and running game, I am sure we can up enough points to win enough to end the playoff drought.
First off, this kind of deal would have to be Hall plus likely more than just one draft pick. When the Bears traded for Khalil Mack a few years ago I think that involved two first round picks plus other picks as well. So a Parsons deal would include Hall plus likely at least a first rounder, and that is a deal breaker right there for us. I like Hall a lot, and I think his struggles last year were more an outlier as I think the whole team was just in a damn funk and the coaching change and Woody meddling and all…lots of guys had shit years. So I still think Hall is a game breaking back and I like him a lot. That being said, we have great depth at RB with Allen and Davis and so we could afford to trade Hall, especially for a dominant pass rusher like Parsons, who I think is one of the best defensive players in the league. However, we will be needing ALL our draft picks next year, especially our first rounder, because I think we will need to be in the QB drafting business come April, so we can’t afford to let go any premium picks right now. Parsons to the Jets is just not happening in my opinion.
Thank you for the kind words, Brook. I obviously could have said the same in reference to you too! I think folks are overvaluing Hall and undervaluing Parsons. You can find a serviceable running back who can give you 1,500 all purpose yards, which is about what Hall has produced over the last 2 seasons. Parsons is averaging around 13-14 sacks since he stepped into the league. The Jets haven’t seen this since 2001 with John Abraham, and prior to that Dennis Byrd in 1990. I would trade Hall, Michael Clemons, and a first in 2026 for Parsons. I would immediately give him the contract he was looking for in Dallas.
To be fair, Parsons has a “franchise” QB in Dallas and it hasn’t given him playoff wins either. Anyway, I don’t know what Parsons wants $$ wise, but $42 million a year would set the new market high.
That's a good option. I'd see if Jerry would be tempted by adding Malachi and Ruckert to Breece and Clemons. Two recent third rounders with good college film available..
Thanks for the memories! Anywho, you adding Clemons got me thinking...would it make sense for the + to be Jermaine Johnson? Breece and Jermaine for Parsons? Jermaine is not as good a Parsons, even with a complete rebound, which is where Breece comes in. Jerry gets a top 10 edge rusher and top 10 RB, Jets get Parsons.
initially, I was thinking Johnson in the deal, I’m not sure how the league would value a speed rusher coming off an Achilles. Probably not ideal to sell him at probably his lowest value. you could probably then say, “well why sell low on Breece?” At least he seems to be healthy now. His floor seems to be around 1,500 APY and I don’t think he hit his ceiling. Problem is the clock is ticking with the Jets.
This is 100% true. Except in cases where your QB can’t throw the football, and you also have possibly the worst WR / TE group in the NFL.
Jerry may be many things, but I don’t think he’s stupid in some of these football decisions. Parsons is not being traded for Hall plus Clemons or JJ. No way in hell that happens. He’s been saying that the trade talk is just negotiating, so I honestly don’t think Parsons is going to be traded at all. However, it would take some kind of blow away offer to get him…like Hall + JJ + first round pick + potentially more picks in later rounds… JJ coming off an Achilles is not going to bring a lot of value…Hall is a RB coming off a down year. I love the thinking but put yourself in the Cowboys’ shoes…no way anyone would make that deal. Again, Mack cost the Bears two first rounders…I don’t think Parsons comes cheaper than that I just don’t see it
It would be Breece Hall + 2 firsts at minimum. It is really worth it for another DE whose going to want a massive contract soon? I'd rather keep Breece & JJ.
Right…I am not giving up any first or second round picks now….we are going to need them next draft to go get a QB
You all know how the Cowboys operate. 1. Great player has great year and wants to get paid 2. Jerry doesn't want to pay great player. 3. Great player threatens to hold out or demand trade. 4. Jerry pays great player more then he would have if he did it at above step 1. My sources - Zeke, Dak, Lamb
