I think you just line up and push the other way now. Defense gets the fattest guy they have to sit in front of the ball and have the linebackers run up and push his ass forward. How exciting! Modern football right there
At least Woody is consistent. He f---ks up the small stuff (tush push ban) just like he f----ks up the important stuff (hiring a GM, head coach, finding a QB, building a stadium in NYC with a roof). The worst part is that the rule used to be that you couldn't push (or carry, or aid) a teammate ballcarrier and they changed the rule relatively recently allowing for the tush push. It's not like the Eagles invented something; they just were the first team to take advantage of the change to a rule that was in place to specifically stop the action. And some QB is gonna get crushed by like five 350 pounders on both sides and hurt for the season and everyone is going to be shouting about how stupid it is that this play is allowed.
Oh totally, the pushing is new, they are just exploiting a recent gap in the rules. That Eagles owner is a total idiot there, describing a QB sneak as a "wet dream" WTF It doesn't make any sense to me that if forward progress is stopped they are supposed to blow the whistle, and at times they do so, often too quickly..... But at the same time they also allow you to push the ballcarrier when his progress is stopped without blowing the whistle, so he can go forward again.
The tush push is all about winning up front and having a tough QB. Its like teams are complaining they that lose up front and want to ban it because they aren't as good.
I don’t really see a big problem with the play. It’s not like they’re the only team that does it or is allowed to do it. The Chiefs do it, they just got Mahomes hurt a couple years ago on a sneak and do it with a backup tightend instead. The Jets did it with Ruckert it if I remember correctly. The NFL over regulate themselves sometimes. All of the pro-passing rules create a lot of muddy waters for officials with three or four different definitions for interfering with a pass or receiver. Hopefully they don’t do it here either.
Agreed. If it were that unfair, every team would do it every single time they have a short yardage situation, but nobody can do it like the Eagles, until that changes, there's no reason to ban it, IMO.
It's not "unfair" but it is incorrect to say nobody can do it like the Eagles. -- Its not about fairness. Its about who enjoys watching QB sneaks? Leagues change the rules to improve their game all the time, and its not always about fairness or even safety. On defense you can't hit or grab WRs before the ball comes, and the answer why is just that people enjoy seeing forward passes!!!
I thought the entire argument was that it gives the offense an unfair advantage to aid the ball carrier. If the argument is "people don't want to see it," that's fine, but if they want to "fix" that, then they'd have to ban QB sneaks as a whole. I mean Tom Brady was very good at it, whenever they had an and 1 or less, Brady was practically guaranteed to pick up that one yard, but it is boring to the fans, yes. I still believe firmly that this rule won't change until a prominent QB gets injured.
yeah probably…. That or teams start pushing and pulling their runners on other plays too. Imagine the Jets throw a screen pass to Garrett Wilson, midfield at the hash, the corner wraps him up. But Ruckert comes on a running sprint, blasts them both, freeing Wilson for a TD lol
What you mean imagine? That scenario happens a lot. I blame the refs to an extent not stopping forward progress. It’s so aggravating when they let an offensive lineman run into the pile from 5 yards out and push it.
