If I knew we were going back soon, but these were rigged on chugger heads, islanders, etc..... they probably wouldve gotten freezer burn (or turned to mush) and not sure how the lures would like the freezer (or how I'd properly store) anyway....I did re-freeze some that were thawed and brined but not rigged, so we'll see if they're worth a shit next time. Insult to injury; Fri-tuesday, a blue marlin was caught each day. We didn't go yesterday, as forecast was calling for T-storms most of the day. It ended up raining for 5 minutes Really, so actually in the bay? My brother said he saw a couple "blow ups" off the beach in Long Beach, but couldnt confirm what they wee....
Headed out tonite for my 2nd Tile trip of '25! Bringing heavier gear just in case. Beastmaster and both a Sword blade and a Planer blade. You never know when you'll need 5lbs.. Tight Lines!!
I have no catch reports as yet of Giants. I expect any day now. Got our trip to the Resor for the opening day of Seabass Saturday scheduled. Club Striper and Bluefin tournament Captains Meeting Wednesday. Will definitely troll for Bluefin after filling the box with Seabass.
8hrs out of Pt. Pleasant to Hudson Canyon. Only thing there was Hake and they were huge. They actually looked like huge Cod. 1-40lb golden came over the rail by a first timer and of course, Pool fish. Ran 2 hrs south of Hudson so I suspect we were in Wilmington Canyon. Capt. kept us deep because Blue Lines are still off limits for now. Wind and current died and it quickly became Tangle town. Found a decent spot on the boat and put 4 good sized goldens in the box along with 2 Black Belly Rosies. All in all, not the worst trip, not the best trip. Sea was flat calm but we had no wind and no drift whatsoever which hurt. Depending on the weather, thinking about 5/24 Marathon Sea Bass run. Skipping opening day 5/17.
Nice. Don't know how fast that head boat is but suspect you started on the West Wall of the Canyon then motored to the Hendrickson Canyon. Caught my first Rosie last year.
Looks like big bluefish just off the beach for you guys... they swam rt past us (along with the cobia
Waiting for the Bonita run to start. I dont eat them but the Goldens and Beeliners down in the Gulf love them. Lots of fun jigging them too. Most fun slo pitching so far!
Fished between Long Branch and the Rocks for Stripers. We are in a tournament. Off Long Branch deployed spoons had 1 fish 47 3/4". Ran up to Shrewsbury Rocks to drop Eels on them. Caught 2 more. Started around trolling the lump there and hooked one on a Mojo and another 2 on spoons. All were Cows in the 37" to High 40" sized. Thus far we are in 1rst place.
Hearing good news regarding the start of the Sea Bass season. Seems jumbos are coming up with regularity. I'll be out there 5/31 as I'm gonna let the Googans and the Holiday fisherman have their fun first. No more overcrowded Headboats for this guy....
My buddy went to the Farms area yesterday. Said it was drop and reel on Seabass. Mostly shorts. Doubles on every drop. Old timers ay you got to go deeper for the big ones. We might try the Resor end of next week weather permitting.
Looking at the Big Jamaica or the Voyager out of Pt. Pleasant Bch on the 31st. Next weekend being the Holiday I'm staying far away from headboats. Got a brisket to smoke and some bourbon to sip on so I'm good!
Word is the Sea Bass bite is on fire. 3 oz jigs producing limits halfway thru the trip. Bait guys making out pretty good too. 5/31 is my next trip and my first inshore trip for '25. Will be on the Voyager out of Pt. Pleasant. Will be bringing both A27's and 80-100gm jigs but I won't use them if the boat is railed. Tight Lines!
