The first 3 picks were an A. Alabama safety is an A at 5th round. The other 3 were ehh so I’ll give B

Don't worry ... statistically speaking, you're still more likely to have better opinions than the Jets front office.

Agree, but I would add LaPorta to the list as well.

I fear this is going to be a major theme for this season.

Didn't seem to hit that big home run but didn't make any weird picks like overreaching for a fullback.

Considering out recent history I feel pretty good that we seem to have a plan.

I really don't know a ton about the players we took after out first pick but I will give this one a B.

"Seeing how he plays on the field, that's more enticing to me than watching a guy run in underwear at the combine," Aaron Glenn said after the draft, in particular about Thomas, the 3rd round corner

I hope he is right about Thomas. It all sounds nice. But typically I see it the other way, you could be slower on the field than combine times show, you are not faster. And if you faster, it is not by much. In College you can get away with it. Now, Thomas does not need to have 4.3 or even 4.4 speed. He may be an absolute steal of this draft and will be the long term starter at CB across Sauce. I really hope so.

However the 4.58 time at pro day, which means he is probably about 4.68-4.7 might become a factor that limits him some, even if his game speed is faster than that according to AG. But that is why he was even available in the 3d round. Hoping for the best though, I like the kid is young and has a lot of potential, just a bit concerned about speed as far as his ceiling is concerned.

That's the shit that gets guys like Vernon Gholston drafted in the 1st round...

You’re missing the point though. Stop watch speed doesn’t account for how you flip your hips and run with a receiver in pads on a double move.

Everyone’s slower on the field because it has a million variables.

For me Thomas's selection is the key point of this draft. This is where I thought we should have gotten a potential starter at the position of need. AG and Mooge went with a CB, where we already have 3 starters (Saunce, Stephens, Carter), which you can justify only if you think the guy is amazing. They must be VERY high on this kid to pick him where they did given other needs. And I actually thought he or Stephens could be the starter at safety, Brian Branch type, but that was not it, as they got one in the 4th round.

So, looking back at the draft overall, this to me was the most questionable selection as the opportunity cost (if we liked Kyle Williams so much, could have traded up for him or get a DT in a deep draft) was significant, and I am not fully sold on Thomas being amazing just yet. I do hope he is, and I want to give Mooge and AG benefit of the doubt, but to me this is largely why I am not giving this draft an A.

I am good with Arian Smith and the LB selection where we did and I am happy overall with the draft, There is a chance this could be a very good one, even though obviously not all picks will hit.

I am not in favor of selecting pure combine warriors either. I thought it was moronic when JD drafted some athletic TE who sucked in College, even with the late pick. But it does factor SOME especially high in the draft. I mean it did help Membou get drafted that high, didn't it?

I am not sure whether Gholston was a good prospect or not, but I recall at the time he was a good player in College too. Maybe I am wrong though, but yeah I would not select anyone purely by the combine numbers, but I would just factor these in to some extent.

Voted A under the theory that positive vibes will make it so!

I did like seeing some wtf picks. Hope they show independent judgment that’s good, and not independent judgment that’s nuts

most of the draftniks are no better .than Kiper so going against the grain is fine by me

I would've preferred they drafted a WR earlier (it's a huge need atm) but overall not bad and I'll give it a B

No, I got it. I just haven't seen too many times where guys who are slow at the combine are fast on the NFL field, but I do see that with acceptable speed many can function. Hopefully Thomas will be one of them. What I see more is these who are fast at the combine do not necessary translate that to the field, like Mims, Elijah Moore, etc... Just the other way around where a CB has about 4.7 shorts time and still looks fast in NFL is more rare.

Fixed that. More for my own peace of mind.

Although, he’s probably only like No. 3 on the HWSBN List. If it wouldn’t be so aggravating, that’s worthy of its own thread.

Does that really solve the problem? There are lots of former draft picks that fits your anonymous nomenclature.

Not sure he has to be that fast anyway. Glenn runs man cover defense, so Thomas is going to be on the outside jamming WRs at the line.

I understand the need for speed in a zone as they need to get to a spot quickly
