We'll need to be creative to effectively use Smith. Need to design plays for him that mask his lack of catching ability as much as possible. End arounds, screens, etc. His speed flashes off the screen - reminds me of DeSean Jackson and Ted Ginn where they just float across the field effortlessly. Very light on his feet. That drop rate is obscene though and drop issues are hard to fix.
It's a late 4th round pick - I don't think we are talking about a starter here. We just added a decent player as a depth at Safety. This was not a terrible move.
We have barely competent starters at WR or DL. We spent money and multiple draft assets on the defensive secondary. Trading up for depth in this scenario is terrible asset and roster management.
As the Jets continue to burn capital on the secondary, remember that this defense ranked fourth best in the league last year in passing yards allowed: 2024 NFL Defense Rankings | The Football Database
I don't get it. We are talking 3d and 4th round here. Sauce, Stephens, Thomas, Cisco are the starters. Malachi, Adams, Stiggers, JBS are back-ups. Malachi's selection to be the back-up safety does not impact Sauce at all.
Line him up outside and send him into a stack with Garrett Wilson in the slot. GW on a deep out and Smith on a fly route. You’re right, there are ways to use elite speed even if the hands suck.
oh wait we gave up two pics right? So you can’t really say not much just the 207 Anyway, what does it matter? Let’s see what happens.
Moore will be used as the slot joker type of position like Detroit did with Brian Branch. Branch is a wildly impactful player in Detroit. Moore’s a good football player. I like when we add good football players.
Again, This is a team defense that ranked 4th overall is passing yards allowed. How do you justify spending all this capital in an area that does not need help?
You're not listening to anything I’m saying, you just keep saying the same thing over and over no matter who you’re replying to. Nevermind.
I mean of course you would give up extra pick. Why would anyone do a straight swap for a pick that is worse? Think of it like this: we moved up from the 5th round pick 145 to 4th round pick 130 and it cost us late 6th round pick 207. It's not much, fair deal according to the chart. I remember every time JD moved up we got screwed by the chart value.
One thing I like about our draft so far is that we're only drafting from competitive conferences. Every pick has been from an SEC or ACC school.
They must feel a lot better about our defensive line than all of us do. I don’t really care what everyone says, this wasn’t some sort of dynamic receiver class. It was a really good running back and a somewhat deep TE class but we have no need at RB. It was a very unfortunate year to have a big receiver need like we do.
