that’s a terrible comparison. Lance played 1 season at North Dakota State and was drafted for his physical attributes. Sanders has literally 3 times as many college starts. Yeah, he’s not the athlete Lance was, go figure, people like him for results and not workout numbers
It's a PERFECT example! An Example of two players who were/will be vastly over drafted! VASTLY Sanders is in the conversation STRICTLY on name recognition alone. If he's still in the league, 4 years from now, it will be on name recognition alone and he'll be on someone's practice squad. Me, personally, I don't think he's in the league by the end of his 1st contract.
Just because they’re not necessarily starting somewhere else doesn’t mean they’re not getting a shot. Zach Wilson sucks, he’s awful. He’s now getting his 3rd shot. These aren’t exceptions at all, they get shot after shot. They just suck.
Yes, could be them or Colts at 14. I wouldn't mind dropping down this low in this draft. I think a guy at 7 is probably very similar as 14. I know Membou is a hot name, and I do like him and would probably take him at 7 if we stay, but he wasn't considered a top prospect based on College tape. Guys like Will Campbell and Banks were rated much higher, consensus all Americans, while Membou didn't get a single vote. His biggest accomplishment is second team SEC. Tyler Warren had a great year, but a bit older and is not exactly Brock Bowers. The thing is, none of these are top 7 players, but I would probably take any one of them at #14. I don't even have a strong preference there. Normally Warren would be lower, but Brock showed a good TE matters more than I thought, so I am OK if we end up with him too, assuming AG feels he can be a good blocker, as Fields is going to need some weapons. The bottom line is: there is a bunch of solid guys in top 15, but not enough true top 10 guys: Cam, Hunter, Carter, and maybe Graham/Jeanty. So, unless Graham is there at 7, if there is a chance to moved down to 9 or 14, we gotta do it and still end up with similar player we would have picked straight up at 7.
I'd suspect there is a pretty good chance that Membou, Campbell, and Banks are all off the board at 14. Meh
Vegas is definitely in play. Brady and Shedeur have a close personal relationship, and obviously Geno is not the guy, he's a placeholder.
That’s perfectly fine, because the difference between Campbell/Membou to Ersery/Cam Williams is negligible. We can grab an OT with our 2nd round pick that is just about as good as whoever you feel is the top OT. Case in point, Membou was projected to Guard and a late 1st early 2nd round pick until the combine came around. Membou isn’t worth 7 overall, not because he isn’t good but because there’s a glut of great OT’s in the draft.
Then we grab Tyler Warren. This mock (by tankathon, the most relevant site for the Jets fans during the regular season after Thanksgiving or even Columbus Day sometimes) has it exactly like that: https://www.tankathon.com/nfl/mock_draft And there are a couple of other guys who are in the same ballpark too. The draft is shallow at the top, but there are quite a few solid 1st round tier players we can pick from, whether you are at 7 or 14. It does get a bit more barren when you get into the 20s, but mid teens seems almost as good as #7, if someone like Graham is off the board. So, if the Colts call with a good package to get Sanders at 7, I am in.
Idk. Like I've pointed out before the fact they already traded a 3rd away to bring in Gino, instead of just signing a free agent as a supposed filler option there, just doesn't gel with me. I also find the arguments convincing that a 74yo Pete Carroll ultimately just doesn't really have the time left to hitch his last stand to going all in a B level QB prospect that is starting from scratch. And that's why he went out an specifically got Gino.
No thank you. As I've noted here before I currently have about as much faith in Warren amounting to be a worthwhile #7-14 pick *here* on the NYJ as i would in remaking those Kyle Brady or Johhny Mitchell picks. Whatever pick we make needs to a be a lot a safer of a bet to strengthen up the foundation and floor here. Build from bottom up. Not top down and while trying to fit something into an isolated concept illusion that doesn't actually exist here.
Please keep in mind that when Detroit was building their team in recent years they were always killed by the draft talking heads for their selections. They spent early picks on TEs, RBs, LBs, Safeties, often with "poor value" and the next day the grades would be poor.
The argument isn’t to not take an OT, it’s to take one in the 2nd round. You’ll have multiple guys like Ersery, Cam Williams, grey Zabel, wyatt Millum, Tyler Booker, Savaainaea, Conerly Jr available at our 2nd pick. Ersery is the 12th rated OT and he’s a bonafide stud. You won’t find a skill player in the 2nd round that isn’t a huge dropoff from the top in their class. If you wanted an OT/Skill player combo in the first 2 rounds, you could either have Campbell/Jayden Higgins or you can have McMillen/Ersery. The drop off to Ersery is minimal, whereas the dropoff from McMillen to Higgins is substantial.
it means spending a premium pick to most likely watch Warren turn into Conklin v2 in *THIS* offense is a bad use of our current draft resources. It would also be a horrid first foot forward for this new GM team.
ok, you dont want Warren. I'm not ready to run to the podium for him, I've mentioned other TEs I like maybe even more than him, but Warren is nothing like Conklin. For one thing he can run with the ball, something Conklin couldn't do. He's also much bigger and can block
Interestingly Kyle Brady went to the same school as Warren. His sr year was 365 yards and 2 TDs. Warren is coming off 1486 yard season and 13 TDs. I understand Warren is not Brock Bowers, but still he seems like a darn good player. And while I don't think he is worth #7 pick, I don't think anyone who will be there at 7 (unless Graham slides) is. I am not a big fan of taking ANY TE at 7, but the other options are such where I am not sure if Warren is not the best pick there, even though he is no Brock Bowers. In other words, there is no Olu Fashanu in this draft who will be there for us. Alt and Olu were premier OT prospects. Membou and others are not same level of prospect IMO. Even though I would be happy with them also, but I do like Warren more than McMillan. Another consideration is that right now Fields has one weapon - GW. This is a pretty weak WR class after Hunter. So, given there really isn't a great prospect at #7 and bunch of averages ones, Warren in round 1 and a RT in round 2 (where it looks like the drop off is not that massive) may not be the worst thing. Again, it's not that I am in love with Warren, I am OK with an OT in round 1 and a weapon in round 2, but I would not be opposed to the reversed either given there will likely be no great prospects at #7. Which is why I want to trade down 1st and foremost.
I like the idea of a slight trade down, but the unfortunate reality is that there has to be someone at 7 that other teams would want to trade up for, and from all I’m reading, there aren’t that many top prospects that would be worth trading up for. The same reason why we would want to trade down is the exact reason why other teams won’t be itching to trade up. The only way I can see it is if one of the QBs (likely Sanders) starts to slide…outside of that possibility, who is anyone going to trade up to 7 for? I just think we’ll end up picking at 7, and if so, I’d be happy to take the best OT on the board. We need WR help like nobody’s business, but I’m not seeing a lot of hype over this class of WR, so not sure who will be Fields’ targets outside of GW…
Exactly. Campbell is very good, but so are the next 11 guys on the OT list. None of them are elite OT prospects like Alt or others in the past, but they’re all really good. I believe all of the top 12 OT’s in this draft will be starting for years barring injury, so there’s no sense taking one at 7 overall.
