You don't have to sell me on Brock Bowers being a good player, or even the best offensive weapon TE in NFL. I'm just pointing out that saying he was the right longer term pick for *us* is typically doing so while glossing over the fact that the New York Jets version of Brock Bowers was never going to look anything like the record level 153 target and fairly stat padded TE end product he is for Vegas atm. That isn't the opportunity player or production *WE* get, and which ultimately gets buried here (with Wilson and healthy amount of Hall dump offs) in manner it's not being buried in LV. The actual reality fit past the hypothetical appeal just isn't there imo. Can that big picture change down the line? Sure, but it certainly was never going to be last year, and by all probability accounts i feel pretty safe saying it wasn't going to be this year 1 rebuild season or in the near future seasons either. In what likely shakes out as one of the worst offenses in the NFL imo. Which just leaves you drafting creative use weapons guys into the least creative offensive environments because...maybe one day and multiple years down the line they *might* end up being a lot more useful? Meh. Again, I''ll rather take my 5 year chances of something better materializing out of the Olu line upgrade. I'm not a huge Tet guy or anything either. I mostly just threw that in as a disclaimer in the event we decide to really go full blow it up, trade Garrett Wilson instead of paying him (which is a defensible position imo given this is likely a 4-5 win type team for the forseeable future) , and cash in on some extra pick/s.
Tet 'the Jet' seems meant to be! maybe we could trade down and get him. but who wants to trade up to number 7? probably nobody
I think there is enough question on him that I want to believe they'll be more likely to gravitate towards the "safer' pick in T. But like i said above if we go that route Wilson better on the way out with another high'ish pick haul that is building towards that 2027 playoff team on the way in.
The way AG spoke about speed, I doubt it. Tet ran mid to late 4.5 and does not look fast on film. Detroit went out of their way to trade up for Jameson, even with torn ACL, because of speed. I just don't see it with the top 10 pick, but you never know.
he's pretty fast. a 4.5 at 6'5 and 220lbs is good speed. His route tree appears to be the concern We just really desperately need an outside X receiver like him. Back in the day we called them "Split Ends" we need that. To continue with the old school terminology, Garrett Wilson is a "Flanker"
Yeah he’s not as twitchy…it’s hard to be 6’6” 250 and shifty lol, he’s more of a bruiser…can def see him be in the Kelce mold…I do think he has the speed, he’s just a different beast then Bowers who’s just a freak at the TE spot.
I come to the same conclusion on Warren. Nice player, not worth 7th overall. I have cooled on McMillan, though I still think he’ll be great. The over arching issue is the depreciation of value on offensive weapons by the time out 2nd round pick comes along. If we take Banks or Membou at 7, we’re looking at the likes of Tre Harris/Jalen Royals at WR vs taking McMillan at 7 and going with Ersery or someone around that level at OT in the 2nd round. The level of drop from Campbell/Banks/Membou down to Ersery/Mbow/C Williams is not nearly as steep.
I think AG wants someone who can take the top off regardless of size. Spoke many times about Jaimo doing that and opening things up up inside. I would be surprised if he goes for Tet. More likely a speedy receiver in round 2.
A lot of football pundits are saying the Jets really like Jaxson Dart and may take him with the 7th pick. I just don't see it b/c they already got Justin Fields and see him as the starter. Also, the team has a lot of needs right now.
I have Warren added to that burn it down list with Dart as well. Really hoping to read a leak story that Conklin at least turned down an equal or better then 1/$3m offer from the Jets before choosing to move on to the Chargers. Getting bad vibes about that atm.
I don't think Conklin was ever in their plans. Was there ANY indication of this? I never thought he was all that good to begin with, he will be 30, so he doesn't really fit the mold for what they have been doing this offseason.
The current mold has a likely to be slated as WR2 who has some of the worst hands in the league. That alone creates a fit to keep a team vet like Conklin around imo for such a peanuts type commitment.
Exactly. Slow 30 year old TE who can't block is not whom Glenn is looking for. And I did like Conk as he showed promise early, but frankly he disappointed last season in all areas, still can't block in spite of big size, and Smartt has more upside. I am completely fine with the decision to move on and replace him with Smartt. We do need someone else though who can actually run block.
