We really need a WR, TE, DT but fat boy to clog up the middle and safety’s. Now I’m trying to figure out if we go OL or TE at 7
Career bum? The kid just wrapped up his 4th year in the league. Not sure how you "get to" career bum after 4 years. Hell, Geno Smith didn't become an honest to goodness starter until, what, 5th or 6th year? Same for Darnold. Not sure I understand your rationale. I'd rather take a "flyer" on a kid like this than draft the "2nd and 3rd round QB's" in this draft. That is where I, personally, slotted Sanders and Ward. In fact, both of them are lower than most of the QB's coming out next year. You see, this is the kind of "stuff" where I question what some of you are watching. What I'd like to know is WHO would you rather have going into the season? We sure as hell can't go into the season with just Taylor and Travis. 4-2 for Pittsburg is a site better than the shit we've been watching for the last SIX years. TBH, I don't like ANY of the QB options, FA OR draft, this year but if you were going to take the best of the steaming pile of diarrhea, Fields would be the best option with the most potential upside. Someone said, for this money, they should have kept Rodgers. Why? So he could get his head kicked in by week 5? At the very least Fields can run out of danger. At $15 mil per, with the way QB's are getting paid, I can live with it. Damn sure better than bringing a dude like Wentz or Winston as chum to the NY media sharks and the piranha fans.
To take it even a step further.. I'm not so sure the last regime, if they had drafted him, wouldn't have completely messed him up. It might be a blessing in disguise that it all worked out this way. I loved him in college, even more than, Stroud. I still have hope. Regardless.. I think this is the smart move heading into the future no matter how this plays out. It's worth the gamble considering.
Let's make sure we're clear. It's actually $40 mill, $30 Guaranteed. So, my guess is it will come down to something closer to $15 mill this year and we'll "see" what happens. Low risk with a ton o' reward if he puts it together. If he doesn't, we would have HAD to pay any QB about the same coin. NO ONE was coming here for $10 mil/year. Not with the intent to compete for a starting position. Even the Jets can't lie that they are banking on Tyrod and the "incoming" would be camp fodder.
THIS all day fucking long and TWICE on Sunday. NOTHING either of these two did, against the competition they faced, was worthy of a day 1 discussion. Pisses me off that some out there think that, just because there are QB's to be drafted, someone has to go in the 1st round. My ass they do. But someone is going to be stupid and draft BOTH these kids in the 1st round. Someone can flag this post. You heard it here, I think Sanders is out of the league in 5 years or, at best a backup and Ward will be a career backup.
See now, that's where this bullshit of favorites gets started. My ass...if Tyrod Taylor outplays Fields in camp then Taylor F'n starts!!! End of story. Fields can back the kid up. COMPETITION baby!!! Don't run FROM it but towards it!
that whole secondary seemed to get torched though…outside of Hamilton, but their scheme didn’t do a lot of damage. He supposedly is a solid man corner in which would help here. Definitely want a ball hawking safety to come here, that would help a ton. And then get some beef on the DLine.
I never said that the Jets should draft a QB this year. They should build the O-line, which is something that the previous regime never did. Then, whenever they decide to sign a top free agent QB or spend a 1st round pick on a QB, that QB will be well protected and also getting help from the running game (need the O-line there too). Justin Fields is no better than just sticking with Tyrod Taylor, who's much cheaper.
I feel your rationale, however, they simply can't go into the season with 2 guys in the QB room. They can still do all that you described, O-line etc., while adding Fields. This really is a low risk/high reward play. Something the Jets have done very little of over the last decade or so. Almost ALL the QB action was "fair to midling" at BEST. That includes the ridiculously stupid pick of Wilson. To be honest, my man, I'm just praying for COMPETITIVE football in 2025. I don't need to see a Super Bowl but, damn it, I want to see progress instead of stagnation or going backwards.
based on what I've seen from that former 1st round bust. 50 career games, 31 INTs, 44 fumbles (!!!), sacked 151 times (!!!).
Right but he has 60 total TDS. If you look at his first half of games vs the last half of games he’s played. He’s gotten significantly better value and productivity on the field. He has a ton of potential and doesn’t have bad stats. Aside from fumbles. That can be fixed though and it’s very correctable. Hopefully that does get fixed. Otherwise. no shot he is better than Tyrod. Not even in potential. if he is better, well, he should win in camp. Highly doubt that’s the outcome though. We shall see. I don’t think it’s as doom and gloom as you are trying to make it out to be though. Not even close.
Another first round bust in his first 50 career games, 52 int, 29 fumbles. sacked 133 times. Sam Darnold and he was able to show great improvement after that. I hope the same for Fields.
Interesting - Zach scored a second contract, 6 mil guaranteed, with incentives to get to 10. This is a decent chunk, same as what Tyrod makes. This is #1 back-up money. We could be seeing him again pretty soon given Tua's health. Also, McDaniels is friends with MILF, who didn't like Zach, and still signed him.
History repeating itself in Miami. https://www.miamidolphins.com/news/dolphins-acquire-qb-josh-rosen-from-cardinals
