The Packers are the team that is allegedly calling for a ban on the 'tush push' play
An unidentified team has proposed banning the tush push used so successfully by the Eagles

I hope it passes. At the end of the day, it is an entertainment league, and I personally don't find a million QB sneaks to be very entertaining.

I think the people that call themselves 'purists' and like the play are not only lying, because it is boring as all hell, but also lying about it being some sort of legacy/traditional play. Up until 2005 it was illegal to aid the runner. So that argument makes no sense to me.

Just go back to the old, "traditional" rules where you can't aid the runner and call it a day. God forbid we get to see some creativity in short yardage!

    ---

also from the article - Sean McDermott talking about the play and his concern for safety has gotta be a joke. Buffalo runs the play just as much, if not more than Philly...

I don't think it should be banned, it's not impossible to stop. Plenty of teams can't even successfully execute it. If it was getting to the point where every 3rd and 1 was a tush push, I'd understand the argument, but I don't really see it any worse than a QB sneak and if they want to risk the health of their QB like that, they can do it.

You beat the tush push by not allowing the other team to get in "and 1" situations, I don't see how a RB rushing up the middle is any less boring on a 3rd or 4th and 1. I think we're just used to the Jets failing so hard at those plays, but the fact is plays with a yard or less to go are usually converted.

It’s not just 3rd and 1 though. They are running it on 3rd and 2 and then again on 4th and 1. So you get a short run, WR screen and then 2 QB sneaks. First down, let’s do it all over again. That’s boring football

it’s also nearly impossible for the referees to spot the football correctly in that mess, something the teams exploit.

And in many cases a false start should be called when half the center’s body is OVER the football on the snap!

No need to over regulate the sport. There are already a hundred thousand things that are illegal and multiply that by ten for the amount of things refs call penalties for.

They shouldn’t ban it, but in all fairness they should allow the defense to do the same, including on punt and FG blocks.

    Pussies.

Stop it. Do your jobs. Play some defense. Just because they can't figure out how to stop it. Gimme a break.

In the old days I remember teams used to have monster DTs in the middle to stop the run with big 'backers, big safeties.
