Imagine having 4 losses in your first 6 games, fired head coach, the season over, and instead of trading away expiring contracts for assets, you trade away assets for expiring players. Joe Douglas sucks.
They probably gave no fucks and did the trade as a desperate attempt. Really a damn shame it all failed
Especially given the fact that at the time Douglas made this trade (Adams for our 2025 3rd round pick), his earlier trade for Reddick for our 2026 3rd round pick had been considered a disaster!
I don't understand the hate for that trade. The season was not over yet and we got a 1000 yard receiver for a 3d round pick, who actually helped. It was definitely worth a try to make play-offs. The problem was all the other moves JD made, including hiring terrible coaches and destroying DL, that rendered this move useless. But on its own merits, Adams was a really good player for us. This was not a back breaking mistake that JD typically makes every year. He made these mistakes before and that's why this decent move didn't matter. But the trade was not bad. The Bills traded a 3d at the same time for Cooper who was way worse.
The season isn't over at 2-4. JD absolutely sucks, but as far as this trade, you got Amari Cooper, who turned out way worse than Adams, for the same compensation on the same day.
We could have packaged Rodgers and Adams and got something back for them. But sure, cut them for no reason.
Other teams are smart enough to stay away from those contracts and not give away assets. Jets gained some cap space so that’s a positive for them, I for one am happy with new regime approach so far.
It was a worthwhile shot at the time given the circumstances. It was an all-in season on the verge of slipping away, but not yet gone. The bigger issue was the unclutch defense and unclutch play of Rodgers when it mattered most
Top of my head, another that didn't make sense cause I think the Jets were like 1- 6 was trading for Percy Harvin in 2014. But yes, Adams is probably worse.
I believe the Jets did the right thing letting Rodgers and Adams go, although I don't know who the Jets can get at QB who'll be better this season. As for Adams, I will say I liked the way he carried himself as a Jet. He seemed always to be in control of his emotions whether he dropped the ball or made a great TD catch. He never got rattled no matter how hard a hit he took. A good guy to have on your team. I hope he lands on a team worthy of his talent so that he can make a run at the Hall.
