The wife and I enjoyed it. I do agree it was "safe" but I think Anthony Mackie pulled it off. All this one needs is to do a little better than O.K. at the box office and you'll see a second where they get a bit more "fun." I thoroughly yacked at the Fantastic 4 trailer. Looks like the Jetsons meets the 70's Scooby Doo! Was NOT feeling it. Superman, could be "interesting." They're definitely going back to the Chris Reeves, more comic bookey look, than this recent Henry Cavill helmed set. And a Krypton the dog sighting!!!!!
Doing okay is subjective. Captain America is on pace to lose $100 million + for Disney which compared to some of the other recent Marvel films is actually okay, but probably not enough to get a sequel.
Talking about sequels - the Village of Huntington NY has announced that some streets and parking lots will be closed one day this coming week for the filming of a Spielberg UFO movie. No other details were provided. Could this be a long-awaited sequel to ET?
They're gonna have to find a new "serum" to juice up the new CA. Wouldn't surprise me if they did exactly that. The Fantastic Four looks like another Disney hatchet job on a viable MCU product. The female Silver Surfer probably will go over as well as the female Thor. I wonder if all the main actors from the original MCU are being phased out by Disney as none seem to be appearing in any of the remakes.
Well, the round trip back to his home planet makes for a feasible timeline. I wonder if it will be a true sequel as all those kids are grown now.
Outside Tom Holland as Spiderman, all these other actors are aging out. Even Hemsworth is looking a bit "ragged" as Thor, if you can call that ragged. LOL! Downey Jr. is the smart one. Too old to play Iron Man but not so much to be Doom. The rest are starting to get too old. I'm not sure how much more than can milk some of these. I think if you find the right director, the Eternals had possibilities. The right director would straighten that one out and you could go in all sorts of directions. They really need to follow that first one up. You know, I finally realized what movies I was trying to say the new Fantastic 4 looked like. It's a cross between the Jetsons with the cinematics of the Johnny Depp's Willy Wonka movie. Same look and feel. I didn't like the trailer. Whatever filter the director used, that needs to go.
I agree I feel the new movie is alright. I got my moneys worth. I had seen the trailer tv commercial beforehand so I knew about the red hulk. So it spoiled the movie for me. I don't like it when the trailer gives away too much that's why I don't watch trailers whenever possible.
The trailer for the new how to train your dragon which showed before captain america intrigued me so much I told my brother about it. He told me it is a live action remake of part 1 animated movie and there is a third animated movie which I didn't know about. I had known of the animated movies except part 3 but I had not watched them. So I watched the animated movie part 1 then purchased the blu rays for parts 2 & 3. EXCELLENT movies I enjoyed them all very much. IMO part 2 is the best but they're all good. Don't sleep on those movies just because they're animated. Everything in the trailer for the live action remake of part 1 is in the animated movie.
I rarely go to the movies these days but I did see two first run shows recently. Six Triple Eight. This was about a black female WAC unit assigned to establish a reliable mail delivery system to the troops in the ETO. As usual, an overlooked contribution by black America to help win the war. I like WWII movies so I wanted to see it. The movie was totally formulaic, see The Tuskegee Airmen for plot. The casting, especially the white cast, was unbelievably bad. The required racist general was so fat you wonder how he got through basic training even as a youth. Then there is Susan Sarandon as Eleanor Roosevelt and Sam Waterston as FDR were laughable, but at least they weren't on screen for too long. Oprah was in it too, but I forgot what role she played. I recommend the movie as a history lesson but little else. A Real Pain. Two cousins whose holocaust survivor grandmother died and left money in her will for the two of them to take a holocaust tour. The movie highlights the differences between the two cousins played by Jesse Eisenberg and Kieran Culkin. One is a successful salesman with wife and family, the other has a hard time establishing any meaning in life. The movie is about the interaction between the two cousins and the effect the tour has on them and other members of the group. A mild shocker for me: one of the members of the tour group is played by Jennifer Grey of Dirty Dancing fame. Had no idea it was her until I checked the casting about a week after I saw it. Recommended if you like "bare the soul" dramas with a touch of humor.
