Yes I know you have all been waiting with bated breath for this post, so here it is. This is the master plan to getting through 2025. This is the way. #1- Sign Justin Fields. This is a low risk, high reward play. I don’t feel there is a true franchise QB candidate in this draft. Not Cam Ward, not Shadeur Sanders, and most definitely not Milroe or Dart. This is not the time to plant our flag on who the face of our future will be. Justin Fields may very well still be trash, though he has shown signs of improvement. He can be had for cheap on a 2 year deal that incentivizes the hell out of him if he plays well, and allows us to cheaply dump him after a year if he doesn’t. Fields can certainly be entertaining though, especially in a transition season like we’re going through. If he sucks we’ll be in good position to draft next year, with hopefully multiple 1st rounders if my plan is executed. #2. Trade down from 7th overall and target an offensive weapon. We need to grab one of the following: McMillan, Tyler Warren, C Loveland, M Golden, Burden III, or Egbuka. My hope is the trade down nets us another 1st in 2026. #3. Use our 2nd round pick to draft whoever drops of the following - Josh Connerly, Wyatt Millum, Cam Williams. I’m assuming W Campbell, Josh Simmons and Membou will all be gone by then. We need a big solid presence at RT. Any of the above paired with Fashanu gives us a dependable set of bookends for a decade. #4. Stockpile the back end of the draft with depth on defense. Identify quality guys that love football and can immediately contribute on Special Teams. We need Safeties and LB’s badly. #5. Sign Levi Onwuzurike, DT. Should be cheap, will help the interior next to QW, and played for Glenn. #6. Sign Juwan Johnson. Even if we draft Warren or Loveland, we need another reasonable presence at TE. #7. Design the offense around Fields and run the shit out of the ball. With a formidably revamped OL, Breece Hall, Wilson, a new weapon at WR or TE in the draft, and Fields you could easily employ a simple zone read formula that pressures the D to respect the run, then bust them open over the top with Wilson while Hall and the new TE can be the safety valves. The offense should be a simple if/then concept. No complicated route tree options and audibles. #8. Sign Budda Baker. We need help at S, Baker should be a solid option. #9. Sign Drew Dalman, C. This is a luxury move, but it makes Tippman a great backup for C or G while strengthening the run blocking on the line. #10. This is a pipe dream but…. Bring Becton back to play G, or even better get James Daniels from PIT. AVT is always hurt. You land one of these 2, have Simpson and AVT battle for the other OG position. #11. (bonus). Create plays for Corley. He’s the perfect type of weapon to go with Fields and Hall. He has talent, but he needs a coach with creativity. He can be a great weapon in a RPO style offense. If we do the above we go into next season with a starting OL of Fashanu, Simpson/AVT, Dalman, Becton/Daniels, and a stud rookie RT with backups Tippman, Simpson/AVT as our 1st line backups, Becton can slide to OT if necessary, and you can let Mitchell, Hanson, and Newman battpe for the final spot. This would be the best OL we’ve had since the Brick/Mangold days. An OL like this makes it so much easier for Fields to create off platform, and between him, Hall, Allen, and Davis, we should be able to run at will. Defensively we are going to struggle a bit this year under my plan. We can’t fix everything at once. Quinnen will have to elevate and show he’s worth the money he got. Sauce will have to elevate his game as well. We added a couple undrafted DT’s last year that look solid, and I think there are great late round draft options (Tim Smith for example). Adding Baker would help with veteran presence in our secondary. Notable losses- A Rodgers, D Adams, A Lazard, H Reddick, DJ Reed, J Kinlaw (good riddance), Tyron Smith. Have at it folks!! Hack away at me if you like, add your plan, hell you can even complement my plan if you like it. But I promise you, as the Mandalorians say, this is the way.
I like it except trying to get Becton back. Please keep him away from here & Conklin would be a notable loss no?
Not sure why so many posters on here are quick to get rid of Tippmann or make him a backup. I felt he’s been solid, despite the turnover and coaching on the OL. Crazy because I feel like he’s liked by analysts more than people on the board here. He’s been healthy and is a good piece IMO.
I couldn't get past getting Justin Fields, it amazes me how obsessed this franchise is with, garbage QBs.
As opposed to Cam Ward, who will cost us several picks including next year’s 1st rounder? I’m giving you a cheap 1 year look at a guy who was a highly touted prospect that has all the same intangibles, only with him you have an easy out if he continues to suck. We can keep and start Tyrod too if you like.
Because we face constant pressure up the middle. Tippman isn’t awful, but I like him better as the #1 backup to the C and G positions.
Becton wouldn't come back here and we have two starting guards, who perform at a high level anyways. I like the draft and Fields idea. Sure, i'd love to win now but we need to stockpile a bit
I agree about Becton, I should’ve left it at getting James Daniels. AVT has had too many injuries, you can’t count on him anymore. He’d immediately be the best backup in the league though, and without as much wear and tear he’d fill any void when a starter goes down. We’re not keeping AVT long term, so it makes sense to start looking to replace him now. Fashanu Simpson Dalman Daniels Rookie RT Bench Tippman AVT Mitchell/Newman/Hanson Vs Fashanu Simpson Tippman AVT Rookie RT bench Max Mitchell Xavier Newman Jake Hanson One injury on the OL and we’re back to where we’ve always been.
That's not bad. I can live with Becton. If it hasn't been made abundantly clear before, this team had the shit that "shit" shits at O-line coach the last bunch of years. My guess is Bechton would have never left had he had decent coaching. With a competent coaching staff, why not? I don't know what some want this team to do at QB. Their flirtation with Rodgers fucked this team for 4 years minimum. The two already wasted and the 2 to come. I swear to god if they so much as even SNIFF either Ward or Sanders I'll lose my shit. I'm listening to the NFL on Sirius, this morning, and F'n Ryan LEAF of all guys does a show with Solomon Wilcotts and he said EVERY GM he has talked to doesn't have a 1st round grade on ANY QB. Just like I've been preaching in other threads. If the Jets piss away that 7th, or worse...trade up, on either of those two that WILL set this franchise back for 4 years from this year. Nobody is saying Fields is the second coming of anything. MOST say it's a gamble. Thing is, it's a CHEAP gamble, you are going to get the best of Fields because he knows he's on borrowed time. That gets the Jets into the season with Fields starting, backed up by Taylor with Travis on the PS being coached up. What is, exactly, the drawback to bringing a guy like Fields in? The Jets have never really brought a drafted QB along and their only real success, over the last 30 years, has been with a vet QB at the helm. I don't like the age of Carr or Cousins. BOTH looked like they're ready for a #2 role for the next 5 years or out of the league. Stafford has been settled which leaves Darnold, Wilson and Fields. There is no way in HELL Darnold is coming back to this franchise, don't care if they do back up the brinks truck. That leaves Wilson and Fields. Well, if I don't like Carr/Cousins, I sure as hell don't like Wilson. All three of them are worse than what we just threw out. Which lands me on Fields. Young, talented, chip on shoulder, will work hard and he'll be cheap. And damn, I'll say it again...he'll be entertaining!
Exactly, I don’t expect much out of Fields, but there’s some small chance a light goes off for him. More importantly I believe he can be had on a contract that allows us to keep him if he turns a corner and dump him for nothing if he doesn’t. This would be his last chance and likely the best team for him.
Nice post! Regarding the round 1 trade down, I agree UNLESS DT Graham is there at 7 overall. Then I say take him. Last year, the DL run stoppage was abysmal. I think LB Sherwood stats are so inflated because our DL was so piss poor at stopping the run. If Graham is gone at 7 (likely), then I want a trade down to the early teens (!3-16) in round 1. That gives us more picks, and I think it possible that McMilian or Warren are still on the board. Take one of them. The jets need receivers!!!
This thread is pretty interesting. We have people calling for Tippmann to be a backup. As per PFF rankings Tippman graded out as the 8th best center in the league. So I can see the rational of putting him on the bench. As I do agree that AVT is injury prone he graded out as the 10th best guard in the NFL last season. When healthy he can ball. AVT also graded out as the best NYJ offensive lineman last season with a 77.7 PFF overall grade. I have to laugh about wanting to bring back Becton. You can’t be serious. Becton was in a phenomenal situation. That offensive line is awesome. Becton was the weakest link on that line. He is still fat and slow. He could never go back to playing Tackle. Regarding Membou he will never make the 2nd round. He will be a first rounder.
I don’t see how. We get a ton of pressure up the middle and I’m not so sure of his ability to call the blocking assignments given how poor our line has played.
If Fields has so much upside how come the Steelers would let him go? And the Steelers know talent. The thought of Fields starting here to me is depressing. He's a former Bears bust. Just because he's still young whatever if I'm going to watch a young QB play for the Jets draft one of the young QBs high in this draft. PLEASE.
I didn’t say he has so much upside, I said he has talent. Cam Ward is unattainable, Sanders and Dart are trash. This isn’t a year for a future franchise QB. With Fields you sign him to a 2 year deal. Year one full of incentives, year 2 with a sizeable roster bonus but no guaranteed money. If Fields sucks, as is most likely, he never sees that roster bonus and is gone in a year. Given that he likely sucked, we have a good draft pick in the midst of what I believe will be the best QB crop in a decade starting with Archie Manning and many other good prospects. If Fields magically figures it out, we can activate his roster bonus and have him play another season to prove it to us on a reasonable salary, while still drafting a quality QB in 2026. If he shows out for 2 straight years we’ll be able to franchise him at the very least to make him prove it a 3rd season if we really wanted to, or sign him long term if we really then believe in him. It’s darn near risk free to try it, and to your point that is assuming PIT lets him walk, which rumors are they may not.
Sanders and Dart are not top prospects, but they are 1st round prospects. Bo Nix/JJ McCarthy level I would say. Not 7 overall worthy, but much like with Bo, there is some probability of success there where at some point in round 1 it is worth a gamble. As far as Fields, look who is out there as FA QBs. He is by far the best option. Stealers want him, Jets want him, and others as well. We may need to offer a two year guaranteed deal to get him in fold, kind of like Tyrod, but for a bit more annually. Thinking Sam's money, but for two years. We might need to guarantee about 20 mil though, not just 10. Which I think works fine, because we know at worst Fields can hold the fort as a starter. So you start him this year, and if he is still not great, next year 2026 you draft a QB and give him a (possibly partial) red shirt season for a change with Fields still starting at least for portion of the 2026 season. By that time Tyrod will be gone. And if Fields busts out, we get to have him for an extra year on the cheap. Win/win for all. Basically a two year commitment at 10 mi or so guaranteed each season I think is it will take, and I want that to happen tomorrow.
