https://x.com/BoyGreen25/status/1891654017148662191 "@Connor_J_Hughes revealed that Morgan Moses “isn’t expected to return" to the #Jets this offseason." To be honest, as much as I like Morgan, this is probably another right move. Moses is a warrior and he did well for the Jets, but he is about to turn 34, and really struggled to stay healthy last couple of years. His play did drop off from Baltimore days, even though he wasn't terrible, and he is probably going to drop off more next season. I am hoping Mooge will do a better job than JD addressing the OL, and also it would help to get bigger there as well, a la Philly. Overall, Moses was great, but I don't hate the move given where he is in his career now.
Most likely Tyron Smith will be gone as well, possibly Simpson too. Being honest we could stand to upgrade Tippman and even AVT as well. Ugh, back to almost square one on the OL.
Lets remember we had the worst OLC in the NFL ruining our young players. I'm curious to see what this new CS can do for the trenches on both sides of the ball.
I’m pretty sure Smith would be gone…true to form, he missed a bunch of games last year (as expected), and we have Olu for the LT spot. I’m ok with moving on from Moses but only if we have a better alternative, which we actually don’t on our current roster…I would hate to let him go and have to rely on the likes of Mitchell or Warren at RT…so if we can’t find a better option either in the draft or free agency, then I’d rather try and keep Moses On a related note, I’m curious to see if our OL play will improve just from better coaching…I think the past regime with Keith Carter was terrible, so it’s possible that with better coaching, our current OL may do better…
Smith has been gone already since mid year . Simpson is making 6 mil, so he is a keeper for so cheap, and Tipp is on cheap rookie deal. AVT at 15 mil is overpaid, that was a stupid decision by JD, but we do have starter level players in Olu, Simpson, Tipp, AVT, who will be on the roster. The problem is that we do not have anyone else. Warren and Max are really bad and the rest are also bad and FAs. We need to find a starting LT, and a lot of depth, and to your point that depth may challenge and replace some of the interior starters. We also need a really good swing tackle. So, we need two starting caliber OTs (one RT and the other swing) and two good interior guys. Even when JD finally put out an average starting OL after 5 years, we had no depth. He just could not get it right all the way in 6 years. Mooge and AG need to make sure we 4 new good players on the OL, ideally with some size.
Great point about coaching, maybe they can get something out of Max and Warren, but to be honest I am not sure. They should be able to get a better play though from likes of Olu, Simpson, Tipp, and AVT, that I do expect. As far as Moses, I am worried he has no juice left at all. He is deteriorating pretty rapidly, and we are adding one more year here. Mooge needs to find someone better and maybe bigger too. Our OL in general currently is a bit small.
Yeah…on a related note, a lot of our DL is also out for free agency, so we do have to really replenish both lines. I feel like we have some talent at the skill positions with guys like Hall, GW, Sauce, but we are thin at both WR and CB outside of those guys, so while we need to bring in some talent at those spots too, I feel like we need to fortify both lines first
Know what pisses me off to no end? That fucking coach obliterated our o-line and we let people walk and/or released. Take Bechton for example. Say what you want but that guy is ON the top FA lists on every site. Had a "GREAT" year in Philly. Yet more damn draft capital walking out the door due to our inept bullshit front office/coaching staff.
Another offseason where we let go off productive veterans in favor of uncertainty's in a position where we had alot of injury's in last year, whoopty hoo nothing has changed move along now.
You are a bit early as no one has been released. However, Smith is done done, so that is a no brainer.
