Do the New York Jets understand that they are in the entertainment industry? The salary cap, all the phoney baloney mantras being thrown out there the new sheriff in town laying down the law, the build the trenches building things the right way oh oh the classic one the building sustainable success I saw something about that a few days ago the Jets love using that one. Worry about having one winning season before worrying about sustaining all this success they hope to have. I've seen & heard it before. YAAAAAWN. From a purely football standpoint Aaron Rodgers is the Jets best option at QB. Beyond that the 2025 New York Jets will be a far more interesting, ENTERTAINING team to watch WITH Aaron Rodgers on the team. A little drama, some headlines ain't bad man. The Jets have to grow up they say they want to build a winner but they don't want any ripples in the water, no headlines, no distractions yet they're in the largest media market in the country. It's almost as if they want to be completely irrelevant.
Its hard to judge any player from last season when it was quite possibly the worst coaching staff in the history of football. There is no QB in the NFL that would have succeeded on 2024 Jets. The fact they were in so many games was because of the talent, but the talent was not being utilized with any sort of strategy or gameplan because the coaching staff had no idea what a gameplan even is. It was a complete shit show. Rodgers mistake was that he didnt demand Saleh fired the day he came here, but of course if he did the Rodgers-haters would have called him a team destroyer and selfish so he was in a lose-lose situation from day one. Perhaps he should have just avoided this situation as a whole and not have come here.
The Jets were the only team that wanted Rodgers. Green Bay was sick of his shit and they have a better QB replacing him anyway. Everybody else knew grabbing a 40 yr old with $100 million+ left in dues was not smart
GB GM actually fucked up big when he signed Rodgers to such huge extension. 110 mil guaranteed was left, 60 mil due 1st week of Sept guaranteed, all in escrow account. How he was able to dump this on JD AND get 2 second round picks and a pick swap is just incompetence by JD beyond any imagination. I mean if JD says no, GB has to give him 60 mil in Sept. It's just unbelievable how badly JD got raped after GB fucked up. Bailed them out completely and then handed them the keys too. What an incompetent imbecile. It's back breaking obvious mistakes like that why he failed us in all his 6 years here and never could get over the hump in spite of some good moves.
The Jets had all the leverage too. Packers didn't want Rodgers and Rodgers wanted the Jets. The Packers should have sent the Jets picks with Rodgers. JD sucked and likely Woody pushed for it to.
Joe Douglas was close friends with some in the media, and also he held highly personal grudges with others. Woody sucks no doubt but I believe a lot of the leaks were coming out of Douglas’ fat mouth It is almost like Douglas would "test the waters" on certain big moves by leaking ideas to his friends in media and see how Jets fans reacted to the news. Zach Wilson was not a surprise, neither was Aaron Rodgers. Then there were times he would freeze out completely media guys he didn't like, or maybe it was guys his media friends didnt like. It was a little obsessive and borderline censorship, like having their credentials revoked
I'm not so ready to lay all of that at Douglas' door, but definitely a lot of the early stuff. The Jets were toxic long before Douglas showed up. He just decided to be a worm about the situation on the way out the door.
If we are to accept as a fact that Rodgers was sub par this season. What is par? Some examples please. Please define "par" Thank you.
I don't see why Woody would care if we got Rodgers for a 3d round pick instead of two seconds and a 1st round swap. JD fucked this trade up like an absolute amateur, Woody fucked up by hiring JD and then keeping him too long.
Is English a second language for you? Try a dictionary; but we're not playing golf here and we're not talking about the stock market. I'm sure you'll be able to figure it out.
There's 'par'... and there's 'NY Jets par'... Rodgers may suck... but he still notched the #3 position of all Jet QB's in yardage and touchdowns for a season.
Yeah. I knew he wouldn't answer that because Rodgers was not sub par last season. I just put the challenge out there for my own amusement. There is nothing wrong with feeling like the Jets should go in a different direction. And there is nothing wrong with not liking Aaron Rodgers. And its obviously accurate to point out there isn't a long future ahead with him. But the fact is that even in his age-diminished state few people on the planet can sling a football like he can. I can figure that out and I'm not even smart enough to be bi-lingual. Just the one language is struggle enough for me.
My two cents. AR total performance was lower than middle of the pack. I think just based on QBR he was #20, on some other more complex rating a little lower, like 22 to 25. To me whatever term was used to define his performance is immaterial. The CS has to decide if a) Is best for the team to keep him and under what conditions or B) find another QB that can provide at least equivalent or better stability at the position. The notion that we enter 2025 without any serious expectations about having a winning season is simply wrong.
Nothing like striving for mediocrity. And still failing at that. Could we please get to the point where being compared to past failures is not something to applaud?
That's gonna be a hard sell Rale. Especially since folks here still clinging to the back-to-back AFCCG LOSSES like barnacles to a pier.
There are valid arguments to both sides.... I think Glenn's focus is going to be on the "team". Alot of young talent approaching re-up time, so I'm sure he's going that into consideration. I'm guess alot don't want to go into "here we go again..." (not having an established QB on the roster)
You can kiss Garrett Wilson goodbye if you bring back Rodgers. Wilson ain’t everything but if he demands a trade, you get pennies on the dollar for a talented young player. The goal should be to hang onto the 24 year olds, not the 41 year olds
