Both aircraft crashed into the icy water of the Potomac outside of D.C. All 64 people on board are presumed to have perished, three soldiers on chopper killed. What an awful tragedy. What they've put together is the Blackhawk, which was on a training mission, either ascended or descended in error, completely miscalculated, and took out the plane, but details vary as the story is still developing. This doesn't appear to be the fault of Air Traffic Control. There is a video of the actual crash occurring, but I don't feel comfortable posting it. These photos are bad enough. https://www.npr.org/2025/01/29/g-s1-45449/plane-helicopter-crash-d-c-airport-potomac https://www.cnn.com/us/live-news/plane-crash-dca-potomac-washington-dc-01-29-25/index.html https://news.aa.com/news/news-detai...rding-American-Eagle-Flight-5342/default.aspx
I don't belong to reddit (which can be a cesspool), but I browse occasionally. First few responses spell out how this very likely occurred, and they sound perfectly legit. https://old.reddit.com/r/aviation/comments/1idba8i/plane_crash_at_dca/
That's terrible. She must be traumatized. Sorry! Those poor people had no chance. Between impact and hitting the frozen water, plus of course they were seatbelted in. All one can hope for is that it was quick.
Just saw “helicopter did not respond to air traffic control for near by planes seconds before crash”.
Efforts are now recovery..: no survivors expected. Just horrible. Said to be that there was us skater team members and their families on board
This is awful. Just goes to show you how life can suddenly change at any given moment through no fault of your own. Enjoy what you have and don't take anything for granted!
Another plane crash yesterday, this one in Philly. A medivac plane. Crazy. https://www.cbsnews.com/philadelphi...t-philadelphia-neighborhood-homes-catch-fire/ One video I saw looked like the plane was on fire before it hit the ground.
Absolutely horrible way to go out. One time while I was on a plane while landing, the pilot put the plane back into ascent right as the plane was about to land. Everyone went flying, it was like a roller coaster. My blood pressure shot up immediately and basically just accepted it was over. He eventually came on the speaker and said there was something in the runway. I couldn't imagine being on the plane the moment of the collision and realize your plane is in a free fall to the ground as fire emblazes everything and then next thing you know you are drowning in freezing water. Absolutely horrible.
