In Regards to Flores I can give you some insight. His owner, behind Flores’s back was looking to replace him with Sean Payton and as also looking to bring in Tom Brady as quarterback. This situation was brought to the league office and in turn the dolphins were proven to have tampered with Payton and the dolphins relinquished draft picks. Was this fair to Flores? He had no control over this. Shame on the dolphins. Remember this was not here say. The dolphins were proved to have tampered with Payton and were punished with forfeiting draft choices and rightfully so. In regards to having a difficult relationship with Tua, do you know what it was really about? Flores wanted to draft Herbert the chargers QB. He wanted to draft the bigger body. Tua has had some good seasons for Miami but he is know an injury problem. One of the reasons is due to his small size. The reality how do you fix the Jets? What were there deficiencies this year? The way I see it the jets were a very undisciplined team this year. They were the most penalized team in the league. So with this being said the team needs discipline first and foremost. Flores fits the bill. He is a hard nosed coach and in reality Tua couldn’t handle it. The Jets were terrible against the run this year. They were terrible. Flores’s Viking run defense is number 2 in the league against the run. Not for nothing, you know he wants to beat the shit against Miami every time he plays them. The guy would be the best coach we have had since Bill Parcells.
Also Flores inherited a team expected to be one of the worst teams in NFL history and won 5 games and then had two winning seasons after. Flores will turn this team around and has proven he can.
We need to look at the facts as they are and not change them to make the guy we like look more favorable. Miami tampered all right, but it was in Jan 2022, he was already fired then and Miami was looking for a new coach, just that Payton happened to be under contract with the Saints, even though not with the team. So, no, this has absolutely to bearing on Flores and it is not unfair to him. Flores had 3 years in Miami and never made play-offs. Parcells was a multiple SB champion and coming off another SB season with NE, so please do not compare the two. Flores had a bad 1st season in Miami, then had a 10-7 season but didn't make play-offs, and then regressed a little to 9-8 season, also no play-offs. Overall a losing record as a HC and 0 play-off appearances. This is not some amazing record. Oh and btw, he fired Ben Johnson to get an offensive staff that then led him in average to 22nd in points and 25th in yards offense over his 3 year tenure. Ben went on to Detroit, where he was promoted and led top offense in NFL. Why do you think he will get better offense here and will hire top offensive guys? To me given the fact the guy had a feud with his QB, feud and lawsuit with the owner, feud and lawsuit with the League, feud and lawsuit with three other teams that interviewed him for HC spot but didn't hire, feud with his former mentor and leaking his text, inability to identify offensive coaching talent and firing great talent already in the building, losing overall HC record, 0-3 making play-offs when the guy after him makes it right away, why in the world would we want this fucker here? Always playing a victim when his record is not all that great. The answer is no, no, and hell no to Flores.
It all makes sense now. I honestly thought there was no way Vrabel was coming here. But now its so clear the interview and the leaking of how well it went was a ploy to push the Pats to fire Mayo. Pats have a promising QB, a very good coach, a top pick, and well over 100mil in cap space. GULP
Also, Flores and Jerrod Mayo run a very similar defensive system. Flores hates Miami and you know Mayo is pissed after getting fired after a year. So HC should be Flores, DC should be Mayo, and OC Josh McCown. If the Vikings sign Darnold try and trade for McCarthy. Not a bad start. Let NE have Vrabel. Miami and NE games would be insane with Flores and Mayo. Would be great football.
He has proven he can be competitive most of the team and not make play-offs. This is on top of inability to identify offensive talent, lose the talent already in the building. alienate a QB, leak, sue everyone and play victim whenever something is not going his way, including his mentor. Look at the facts. Flores would be the absolute worst hire we can make, including Glenn. I would not even grant him an interview.
You are absolutely entitled to your opinion and I respect it. Facts are the Jets are undisciplined and the defense was terrible against the run. You can’t deny the fact that Flores will instill discipline and his defense is number 2 against the run this year. These are not summations or opinions they are facts. In reality I can care less about his arguments with the league. Makes no difference to me. The guy is a good coach. In addition I never compared him to Parcells in regards to his coaching record. I said he would be the best coach we would have had since Parcells. Do you really believe he is not a better coach then Salah/Gase etc?
I think Mayo is a great idea to pair with some offensive minded HC. Look at the facts I posted above, and do not just ignore these. These are pretty massive failures of Flores we are talking about. It would be a total disaster to get him. Now look at some of the teams that succeeded this year: Detroit, Tampa, Bills, Ravens. These teams do not have offensive HC, but winning with their offense because of OCs that they have. This is a great time time to pick off an excellent offensive mind as our next HC. Then pair him up with experienced DC, like Mayo, like you said, and we can have a dangerous team here.
I mean since Parcells we had Herm and Rex, so he is certainly no better than them. Heck even Groh and Bowles matched his biggest claim to fame to have a winning season but not make play-offs. So definitely we did have better coaches since Parcells. He is better than Saleh, but Gase I am not so sure. Gase was in Miami with Tanny, who while is not a scrub and had a decent career, is still level below Tua. And he made play-offs once there. So, objectively, it is debatable he is even better than Gase as both were in Miami and Gase achieved more. I respect your opinion too, but I ask you to consider the arguments I made. That goes well beyond just the League lawsuit. We are talking about his QB, mentor, owner, poor offensive coaching choices, etc... There is lot of red flags. A hard no for me.
how many times are you going to say that? it’s stupid anyway he won 10 games with Ryan Fitzpatrick, Miles Gaskin and DeVante Parker. Clearly he doesn’t need top talent to win
Yeah, it is stupid you forgot to mentioned he got 6 of these wins with Tua. Looks like he needed SOME talent after all didn't he? We need to make play-offs, not someone who proved he can't do it and can't even get along with a young QB and no one else really, or find good offensive staff. We need the opposite of that. Hopefully Spielman and Tanny are smart enough to look elsewhere.
Flores knows what kind of players he wants. That’s why he dragged overlooked guys like Van Ginkel and Byron Murphy with him to Minnesota. He’d be a good head coach here. Sorry Tua’s sensitive ass needed to be coddled by a pot smoking hippy with the best receiver in the league to be successful.
I still don't quite understand why he would be a good HC given how many red flags there are, which I mentioned above. An overall losing record with 0 play-off appearances, plus all the other shit I already listed - where is the confidence he will make play-offs here coming from?
He won 10 and 9 games. Yes no playoffs but in some seasons that amount of wins get you a playoff spot. My primary concern is finding someone who has proven they can turn the direction of a team around. Flores did that.
The Dolphins traded away their good players and wanted him to play loser Josh Rosen in his first year as a head coach dude lol. How can you strap that first year to his ability? There were open discussions as to if the Dolphins should be investigated for tanking. He went 19-14 his next two years and then got canned because Tua cried to the owner that he was mean.
Considering woody loves hiring defensive coordinators as his head coaches that come on cheap contracts, I would bet he hires a ex defensive coordinator as the next head coach.
