Eh it’s kind of a goofy stat though. Not sure about SB losses but only 26 colleges have fielded winning quarterbacks. Weird stat about that - Grambling State and Northern Iowa have more wins in the SB by a quarterback than Ohio State, Oregon, USC, Penn State, Texas, etc. combined. There are tons of colleges and not a lot of Super Bowls.
Why wouldn't he? So many teams desperate for a QB and hes having a near MVP season. A team will pay top dollar for him. Wouldn't he hold out due to risk of injury and losing everything? No way in hell he would play with a franchise tag off this year. Cousins likely played with the franchise tag because he knew he wouldn't get paid that much in free agency as the franchise tag paid so he was happy and it made sense. I would think 14 wins would yield top dollar for Sam.
I don't think that Sam Darnold is a hold out type of guy. His dad is a plumber for fucks sake. If the Vikings want him to stay around I'm sure they can work out something reasonable with him which would still be a great payday for Sam and keep what is obviously a good thing going. There is also a good chance this ends up being the best statistical year Sam ever has and I think both sides are well aware of that as well.
Simply attaching the teams total wins to the quarterback as it pertains to contact value is quite silly. Sam’s been great but when you do that you are acting as if you can place him on the Titans for a mountain of money and achieve a similar result which we all know is not true. Kirk played on the franchise tag because it was a monster amount of money. He ended up taking a lot of money to go to the Vikings - played fantastic in a similar situation to Darnold before getting hurt and then cashed in again after leaving. Darnold has a better arm and is younger but I think it’s very shortsighted if you don’t think the NFL recognizes this progression.
It doesnt matter all it takes is one or two teams to bid him up. There are so many teams in the league without a QB. His demand will be high and someone will pay a lot.
So take a one year franchise tag vs lock in a long term deal when there will be all time high demand for him? No chance he settles for a franchise tag.
So you think someone’s going to give him 4 years/$240 million ($231 million guaranteed)? Or 5 year/$275 milllion ($219 million guaranteed)? Cause those are a couple of the highest paid deals in the league you’re claiming he’s going to get.
I am absolutely SICK seeing the numbers Darnold is putting up, though I feel good for him. That inistence that we draft Zack Wilson in 2001 is going to do to this franchise what Portland got when they passed over Michael Jordan in favor of Sam Bowie. Never made any bleeping sense. Guy did NOTHING until his last year in college...playing in front of Covid Cardboard....and we somehow jumped the guy 2-4 rounds ahead of where he should have been drafted. The only rationale for drafting him was to re-set the salary clock.
You and I were the only ones 4 years ago who wanted to trade the #2 pick that I can remember. I remember one poster here almost agreeing with us but then saying that you just can't give Sam the 4th year and it's time.... even though he wasn't sure he was a bust and wasn't 100% sold on Wilson. I believe it was you (?) who brought up that Coastal Carolina game which was a Giant Red Flashing Warning Light that the Jets and 90% of draft "experts" ignored. That Daniel Kelly kid, who can't get a job in the NFL, nailed it MONTHS before Wilson ever threw a pass for us. Only thing he got wrong was thinking it would get a coach OR a GM fired....in fact, it got them BOTH fired.
Browns gave Watson a 5 year $230 million dollar deal a few years back. Darnold is having an MVP type season and there are so many teams in the league looking for a QB. He will get paid.
You said the biggest deal in the NFL. Let’s see what happens. He’s in line for a Baker style extension, not your over emotional prediction.
Even if Vikings move on, Darnold won't be desperate enough to come back here. He's managed to do something none of us can seem to do. Escape this franchise.
But the Broken Clock gave a detailed analysis of why Zack should NOT be drafted before the 3rd Round. I can find 2 morons in the street and one can say Zack will be an All-Pro and the other says he'll be a bust -- one of them is GUARANTEED to be right even if neither did any analysis. Kelly did the actual legwork. He did what my profession calls "original research" instead of regurgitating 2nd-hand information that other people have processed or looked at. He looked at EVERY SINGLE THROW Zack made his final year at BYU and he saw what anybody looking at his 74% completion percentage would NOT see....that Zack was HORRIBLY inaccurate even when he completed his throws....that he never hit the receivers in stride....he left tons of YAC on the table....despite a big advantage at virtually every offensive position vs. the defense...he couldn't put up pin-ball type numbers because his receivers were forced to make fantastic catches on what should have been easy throws (sound familiar ? ). Finally, he noted that he had TONS of time to throw and if the same time was created in the NFL (it wouldn't be) it would be more than the best-protected QB had to throw. On many of his throws Zack had 5, 6, 7 seconds to throw which you don't get in the NFL. All the media Zack Wilson lovers including some I respect -- like Chris Simms -- never did the in-depth work necessary and that's why so many of us got fooled. I would have too if I didn't come across Kelly's work. All I saw and heard from the media was "74% completion accuracty....74%.....plenty good enough to hit mid-60's in the NFL..,...74% completion percentage...blah blah blah blah blah." Nobody looked under the hood except Kelly. Did the freaking Jets, with $15 million of labor costs in the room evaluating the draft ?
Hard to imagine the Vikings let Sam go after this year…I’m guessing they will find a deal that works for both…they can then either keep JJ as he’s cheap or trade him if they get a nice offer, but they don’t HAVE to move him if they don’t want to..he’s cheap.
why don’t you just admit you are this Kelly dude Weren’t you an intern or something that got coffee for people?
You might want to look at the guy holding the Goldendoodle to the Left. Then look at Kelly's X/Twitter picture. You're about as accurate as Browning Nagle's throws.
